Mindhunter: Season 2

2x05 Episode 5

W: I didn’t picture you living in a place like this.
K: Small?
W: Sparse. Your life seems very abundant.
K: Well, one’s expansiveness of spirit needn’t be reflected by one’s personal surroundings.

First Kemper, now Manson. Both actors are absolutely killing it in their roles. Watching them you almost forget you're watching a show and not an old real recording of the actual criminals.

What an amazing episode for an amazing show. The writing is so good they even make a single appearance by Charles Manson be incredible. I almost believed him, just like Manson actually was in real life.

E: It’s taxing lifestyle. A lot of factors that go into success. As I got better, I was very careful that all conditions were exactly right. This person you’re after, he has on overwhelming fantasy life. Fantasies of what he’s done, what he wants to do, how he’s going to improve. These dreams will consume him. Soon the real world won’t even compare.
B: How do we catch a fantasy, Ed?
E: You can’t. If he’s any good, you’ll never see it. He’ll live like any other person, have a relationship, hold down a job.
H: We know killers don’t have the tools to manage real life. They come from marginalized backgrounds, they break under the pressure of what they’ve done. They make mistakes.
E: It seems to me everything you know about serial killer has been gleaned from the ones who’ve been caught.

Some men just can't take a hint. Geez. The one-way flirtatious scene was more excruciating than the interview with Manson

really good episode - felt nice to have one more Holt-centric and it fit really well with the theme and Manson interwiew.. speaking of the devil, he might have been the highlight of the episode - but to me the best parts were Gregg getting constantly kicked out of important discussions haha

also the dude at the party who wouldn’t let Wendy alone gave me major Mr.Collins vibes...

Once upon a time in Hollywood? XD

How is nobody suspecting that guy who chucked the FBI out of the missing-children case in the first place? He fits the profile, he's both black and everyone seems to know him, plus he was extremely interested in their case and what they're thinking.

Manson though, holy. Love how he's so charismatic, Holden couldn't help but smile.

Great episode, but did they get the swastika on Manson's head wrong (mirrored)? It's such an important detail...

Manson was good. Physically he was so close. Evil little weirdo.

I've been enjoying the season more or less but this one - as opposed to how others commented here - was a major dud for me. The whole Manson thing was really forced with Bill's behavior and frankly did not at all deliver on the importance they layed on this. Later scenes were also poorly done like Wendy getting hit on or how everyone instantly turned away from Holden as soon as he started talking (making the cringiest facial expressions ever).

Man... Son, that was an incredible episode.
