Bullets, the demonic entity and here and there the effects do show that this series is on a certain budget. But they certainly do know where to spend that budget and on what effects. Midnight, Texas surprises me with its rather high production value that is has overall. Considering this is a new show.
Ooor maybe they blow the most money of their budget on the first few episodes to draw people in, that wouldn't be too stupid if the story can hold its ground. Yet I really think story-wise the prophecy thing is reeaally lame and doesn't give it enough room to breath. Or in other words, I can't see how this will run for longer than maybe two seasons, if at all. No, let me rephrase that, I can't see this going for longer with a sensible, engaging story that we haven't seen before several times.
Thinking about this show a bit more it does feel a bit like Grimm and since Grimm has ended...is NBC trying to establish the replacement here? If so, not too bad of an effort so far. I'm curious how this will play out

A vampire fighting a tiger? I'm not sure if that's awesome or just lame.
