[7.0/10] Eh, this is such a table-setting episode. We don’t learn much, if anything, new about the characters. The major developments are mostly superficial. It’s really just a setup for the grand finale, padded out with some of the standard action shtick. I understand the need to that, but it makes for an episode that feels like it’s running in place.
What are the major developments? Well, we have a full-on Spider Team now, with Peter, Miles, Gwen, Anya, Harry, Otto, and Anna Maria joining forces to take on the Goblin Nation. This was inevitable, and it happens without much fanfare, but it’s still probably a necessary move before the big showdown. In the same way, we get to see the quartet of Goblin Nation’s gang in action: Vulture plus the Wake Goblins, Electro plus the Electric Goblin, Crossbones plus the War Goblins, and Silvermane plus the Cyber-Goblins. There’s not much to it, but the show at plays off the usual “villain team-ups don't work because bad guys can’t work together” thing.
Then you have Vulture obtaining the invincible mech, the macguffin for this particular outing, once the episode-length fetch quest is finished. It’s a little underwhelming as a threat, because there’s little personal to it. It’s just another big bad machine, but we’ll see if the show can go anywhere with it. The hunt for it ties into the continuing theme of mistrust and friendship, where Peter is being pulled in opposite directions by Harry on one side and Otto on the other.
The rest of the episode is fine but mostly filler. There’s some decent fights and rescues, and it’s good to bring Anna Maria on the team to solve the “spider-bots can’t see goblins” problem. But otherwise it’s more running in place ahead of the finale.
Overall, this is one is more sizzle than steak, but hopefully the main entree is coming in the last episode of the season.
