Even though this season wasn’t as good as the first one, I feel like it was good to have an insight to Jessica’s past. I did feel like they screwed up Trish and some scenes were poorly written, but I still enjoyed this season.
This season felt very scattered and there was little cohesion (Jeri's storyline for instance had the most tenuous link to the main plot). And what did the writers do to Trish? Her characterization took a huge nosedive. She went from strong, capable, and resilient to weak, self-righteous, and very dumb. She deserved better.
First season was an 8.5/9. This was so bad, 3.5-4, and that's being generous. Poor writing. Poor directing (Jeri's awkward dance in her apartment early on). Poor editing (was it necessary to play the entirety of 'I Want Your Cray Cray'? Would playing 1 minute as opposed to 3 minutes not have the same effect but cut out some filler? Very indicative of the editing of the season as whole, scenes play for way too damn long, scenes that already smack you over the head with very superficial dialogue)
Didn't care for scenes with Malcolm. Didn't care for scenes with Trish (who becomes increasingly annoying and one-note). Didn't care for scenes with Jeri. Really ruined Jeri's character (outside of a classic Jeri move in episode 12). Really disrespected Simpson's character. I would've hated the character of Alisa a lot more if it weren't in the hands of Janet McTeer. Likewise, Krysten Ritter is the only thing keeping me from completely feeling like season 2's Jessica is a mere shadow of the complexity and snark of season 1. It's hard to tell whether I hated s2 of Daredevil or s2 of Jessica Jones more, but they've had the same effect: I feel nothing, maybe relief even, that Netflix has cancelled a lot of the Marvel shows over the past two weeks and the remaining shows might not be long for this world when their committed upcoming seasons are finished.
One of the biggest season 1-to-season 2 drops I've experienced. It was torture forcing myself through the season.
I must be in the minority who’ve enjoyed this season way more than the first. Solid acting and directing throughout. The quality seemed consistent. There was not a single episode that lost my attention. And this time around I actually did give a crap about the name title of the series.
I actually liked this season. Trish and Alisa, Jessica's mother, were the non straight forward villains . As stated by everyone already, Jeri was the MVP, I wouldn't want to get on her bad side. Kilgrave's short appearance was disturbingly charismatic, spot-on performance by the actor once again .
Now, an analogy as my brief conclusion of the season... Main characters as the 7 sins:
- Sloth -> Jessica
- Envy (and massive insecurity) -> Trish
- Wrath -> Alisa, Jessica's mom
- Greed (for completion and scientific excellency) -> Dr. Karl
- Lust -> Dorothy, Trish's mom
- Pride (and damn confidence!) -> Jeri
- Gluttony (then for drugs, now for sex) -> Malcolm.
so after over 2 years and this is what we got? i mean i don't hate it! it wasn't that bad but i wished it would be marvelous and great like season one, and also worth the waiting.
Trish is so annoying!! i hate her story line, her character and her boyfriend! oh griffin was the worst thing in this season. Meanwhile, Jeri was the best thing in this season along with killgrave lol. Also, there are some intense moment like when jessica's old boyfriend was killed by her Mother, that scene when she found him dead was great!
it was good overall, not that bad. worth watching, but you might feel little bored in some episodes though lol
It's an awkward one. On the one hand, this was an absolutely necessary story to tell. On the other, it went on for far too long.
Could easily have told the same story over, say, 9 or 10 episodes and have the last three dealing with the aftermath of Playland with some other threat such as a corrupted Trish/Hellcat taking the true big bad status and resolving Jessica/Trish before the season ended by having Jessica forced to save Trish from herself or something and becoming the true team they should be. Instead that's obviously going to be stretched out over 13 episodes as well and will probably suffer the same fate.
As other people have stated, Jeri's storyline was actually the most compelling. It was also the most inconsequential. Literally at no point does Jeri's plot have any affect on the main plot. Of course Kilgrave returned the way that most of us expected to but even as mental demons he's still the most magnetic presence on the show.
The only good thing about this season was Jeri.
The second season is not as good as the first one, in my opinion. Janet Mcteer was great though!
That was obvious mom is gonna die at the end - they could make something different. And best part of the season is still Killgrave (Tennant maaaan!) Real villain of the season is that moron called Trish Walker - please die as Hellcat please please - you are the second female i hate on TV (One is Skyler from BB)
This season is a mess and Trish is a horrible character, ruined the show for me.
Jessica Jones don't disappoint on any episode, i can say it's the best of that "bunch" of marvel s series.
This season is really REALLY weak compared to the first one. Most storylines are just boring. For every character. Obviously after the charisma of Kilgrave as season one's villain, the void would have been difficult to fill, but it's not even remotely close to it.
There are two good episodes in the season, and both are not linked to the season's story.
The first is episode 7 which is entirely flashbacks, it could have mostly been added to season one.
The second episode 11 where Jessica has visions of Kilgrave. Totally unrelated to the story, but it says a lot about the season that the best episode is entirely due to the presence of the previous season's villain.
Jessica's new love interest is cliche, boring and predictable all the way. On the other hand, Trish's new boyfriend was a pretty cool character, even able to handle Jessica and interact with her, which must not happen often. But he was quickly discarded to make place for Trish's main storyline.
Which is awful. The whole Trish is an addict to combat drug thing is bad. It's nicely played, but the scenario sucks. Also it really really weirdly turns into Trish is evil. I guess it's to push that for season 3, she's definitely gonna be season 3's villain. But it's weird. She really rapidly became really evil. From making Malcolm take the drug, to putting him in the trunk, forcing Karl to change her, then all the stuff she says to Jessica, and to finish killing her mother litterally splashing her brains over Jessica. Maybe withdrawal was an excuse in the beginning, but that was out of th way for most of this stuff. It's all self-centered jealousy and selfishness. She's had everything, has been a star, is world famous, has her talk show, is filthy rich, but no. She needs to have what Jessica has. That's a really weird change, because there's no way she would have maintained her relationship with Jessica all this time if she was always like this. Anyway, you just spend the whole season hoping she'll die.
Jeri had already outlived her usefulness by the end of season one. She's still useful for the lawyer part but that's it. Her whole storyline is useless. It has good moments, and Carrie-Ann Moss is great, but it brings nothing to the main story. Also it could have been way worse, much more boring and cliche, like seeing her gradually come to term with her illness, but we'll probably have that in season 3 anyway.
Malcolm, again, is the character that evolves the most (Trish's brutal change can't be characterized as an evolution). He's the link between the different parts, much more than Jessica. He's taking shit from everybody, they clearly don't deserve him. The only one whose storyline doesn't suck, though he doesn't really have a main story line of his own.
Making the villain Jessica's mother was really bad. The IGH investigation at the beginning was interesting, discovering parts of Jessica's origins and who was involved in it, with some great ideas, like the Whizzer! And then that. It switch what could have been some other great investigation work plus cool confrontations with the villain into a mother/daughter failed relationship sob story where everything is cliche and predictable. Just after this reveal you could tell almost everything that would happen afterwards. The point was probably to add some psychological connection to Jessica, like Kilgrave, but that was a really bad idea.
Alisa's character is extremely basic even if they try to make it appear differently. She's just boring. The most interesting part is her relationship with Karl, though it comes from Karl being a much more interesting character.
The whole concurrent PI storyline with Pryce was without any interest. Just added for some out of nowhere events along the way.
This season wasn't as bad as the ratings have made it seem, but it's unfortunate that the show was never able to build on it's outstanding debut season, and learn from other MCU Netflix shows that have premiered since then. Of course, I'm referring to The Punisher and the -cohesive season-long arc that it committed to and told. This show again has some great parts, told from a unique perspective, but can never seem to get them to fit together for an entire season. It's too good a show not to be disappointed at the results.
Season 2 Was Not As Good As Season 1. It Gets Boring In The Mid. Love The Ending Though.
They gave powers to Trish but butchered her character in the process. If the objetive was making her as miserable and alone as Jessica, they nailed it.
Its true that this season is a lot slower then the last one and for some it will be too slow, but for me, it was good enough to realy enjoy it. that said, i realy like jessica and with another charachter i probably would have hated the slow pace. so, if you like jessica, watch it, if you think she is boring or just okay, then skip it.
Looks like Trish Walker is finally turning into the superhero Hellcat.

Not really enough story for 13 episodes. More like 8 episodes worth of story stretched over 13 episodes.
Man...fuck Trish and fuck Malcolm. More like Trash and Malcunt. I totally despised both of them in the series. Deserves 5/10, got a +1 because of Kilgrave, which as always puts on a real show.
Boring, predictable, but somehow you have to watch it to be in sync with other series in the Netflix/Marvel series.
