To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. The plot is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of Lesbian poetry and BDSM culture most of the context and symbolism behind it will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Nanoha's optimistic outlook, which is deftly woven into her characterisation - her personal philosophy draws heavily from Mahayana Buddhist scripture, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these battles, to realize that they're not just exciting- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the hotheadedness in Nanoha's powerful catchphrase "Zenyoku zenkai!," which itself is a cryptic reference to the ancient Indian erotic text, the Kama Sutra. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Masaki Tsuzuki's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. :joy: And yes by the way, I DO have a Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
In all seriousness though, this franchise is such a treasure (except for ViVid [and Force but that one thankfully hasn't been adapted into an anime yet], it can go get burnt into a crisp).
