Madoff 2016

The whole way through, this felt a little strange. Maybe it was the challenge of seeing Richard Dreyfuss playing the role of Bernie Madoff. Or maybe it was the constant feeling that it was being played as if they were financial thugs, and kept invoking the spirit of the Italian mafia.

But despite this, it was engrossing and engaging. We stayed up way too late watching it, other people who walked in ended up sitting down and watching and it ended up in a broad discussion of Ponzi schemes, other frauds, and the GFC, and a thirst for more knowledge on what actually happened (and how accurate this dramatisation actually was).

Although I didn't rate this incredibly high, I absolutely recommend watching it. It's a solid enough dramatisation of a remarkable part of our recent history.

Richard Dreyfuss played a better Bernie Madoff than Robert De Niro did in The Wizard of Lies. The only thing De Niro had going for him was a closer resemblance to the real Bernie Madoff.

I give the series 7/10.
