The Visuals are beyond Amazing..This episode was Mezmerizing and I was interested in every part of this.
The combination of extreme realism and violent digital cinematography makes this an otherworldly unsettling experience unlike anything else. I am amazed and disturbed.
Honestly this was really confusing and overwhelming at first but the more I look into and think about it and it's themes the more I love this episode.
I feel like I'm too small brain to understand this episode. Like it feels like it's something more than what I saw
Real trash Episode don’t like it
Surreal experience this episode, probably stuck with me and changed me more than any of the other love death robots episodes. It was almost hypnotising at times, genuinely creative and abstract depiction of a deadly dance, two intertwined characters and the pillaging/greed of foreigners in an unknown land. The range of emotions you go through here are interesting. It really is a masterful little piece that puts you on edge.
This is one of my favourite ones of this season! I loved the mystical feel, the way they play with sound and silence and the entire folkloristic aspect.
“A woman scorned..?” I wonder about him regaining his ability to hear when he drank the bloody water. It didn’t seem like a conscious decision of hers to do just that, as she seemed a little surprised to see him again. But I suppose it was. Try to love one little fool, but they’re all the same in the end. So back into the scornful dance we go. I was surprised to see she actually had a face under that mask.
worst episode of the whole show
Once in a deep forest, forsaken by the wars the men fought, a mermaid loses one of her scales in her pond.
Covered in gold, the piece lays in the dirt with many of it's sisters, resting away from her and her body.
One of the officers of a Spanish Garrison, a deaf soldier separates himself to bathe himself in the waters of the pond, only to discover the golden scales of the mermaid.
Deciding to keep this treasure to himself, he is unaware that removing the scales from its natural bed, he would be triggering their owner's rage. With a simple scream she could hypnotize and enchant the men, but only if they could hear.
Ignorant to his luck, the soldier misses the mermaid dance and it's effects on the garrison, that now lays dead in the other side of the pond. Ignorant was also the mermaid, impressed by the solder resistance to her powers, and curious about his nature. For once, one of them was not vile, not crazy, if only she new that when he had put his eyes on her, the effect of her gold provided the same trance as her voice, he was determined to possess her.
She sang to a deaf man, he danced to a silent song. When both finally were together, a fatal blow from him was enough to have her, to clean her like a fish, removing her from her golden plumage.
Her magic blood, enraging the nature, informed the forest that an elemental has been hurt, a maiden of the waters, a pure force. Acting his revenge on the solder, the magic blood found his way to his mouth, his body.
He now could hear, could now choose between go crazy or tame this new world, he was really happy. But not for long, because now he could hear, he could know the mermaid's pain, he could be entranced to dance with her one more time.
She could return from the depths of the water where her naked body lays dead, and act her justice on the one who stole her beauty, her pride and her magic.
And this is only the surface of this story, so layered and profound. The best piece of animation I've seen recently.
Well, that was a weird one.
I'm probably bordering into unpopular opinion territory here, but I did not enjoy this episode much. And no, that doesn't mean "I don't get it."
I just personally feel like it is a matter of style over substance with this one.
The story is about a deaf knight whose whole battalion falls victim to a Sirene, leaving him the only survivor because he couldn't hear her voice. The Sirene is intrigued by this and stalks him through the woods only to be seemingly killed by him for her treasure. The knight apparently regains his hearing only to be killed by the "not-so-dead Sirene. It is a cautionary tale of greed and unlucky circumstances in it's core and wants to be so much more than that.
The visuals are what set this episode apart. It's a style the show has not yet explored and while not my personal taste (I found the movements to be way too frantic to be enjoyable) I can appreciate it has an immense accomplishment. I guess I might just not be "artsy" enough to fully immerse myself with this one.
It is also a tonal shift from the rest of the show. I do think being experimental is something the show should afford being more often, but experiments can go wrong and this particular one feels like it just belongs somewhere else.
This episode...is unlike anything on this show.
The animation, the chaotic camera movement, editing, and sound work was effective here. Everything in the hearing world is so loud and messy, with the sounds of clanking from metal, movement from human beings, and the lively environment. In compassion when it cuts back to the POV of a deaf knight where silence is golden.
It was the most haunting and beautiful thing I've seen in a while. It takes a legendary tale of a knight, similar to King Arthur, and makes it into a piece of art.
It goes to show the potential this show has when telling different stories through different animations. A strong end season 3.
Did not vibe with this one. I get the theme and approach but the direction/frame rate was nauseating, especially when paired with the sound effects. Horrible
From a technical standpoint, this is possibly one of the most impressive pieces of work in the recent years in the history of animation.
haunting and so beautiful, I could not pull my eyes away from the whole episode
Brilliantly animated. This is work of art. Yet it leaves you confused. You get the context but how he could start hearing . The CGI realism makes it a winner, not the story nor direction and definitely not the sound work.
[Netflix] Another amazing creation of Spanish Alberto Mielgo that has a connection with his Oscar-winning short film "The Windshield Wiper" (2021), regarding how toxic relationships can be, here two predators involved in a battle without winners . The background of colonization and ambition is mixed with animation that experiments with colors, sounds and a complex editing, made by the director's company pinkman.tv.
NOTE FOR MYSELF SO I REMEMBER SOMEDAY, ONLY REPRESENTS MY OPINION/THOUGHTS FOR MYSELF NOT A “REAL REVIEW“, SO YOU MIGHT NOT AGREE WITH IT
(also its not my 1st language)
surprised Im in the minority who don't like this episode.. All I could think was what the actual f is this.
The ep before I was wowed of the visuals (it actually took me a second to figure out if its animated or not bc it looked so real, especially in the beginning) and now this?? hurt my eyes and felt like its glitching, both visuals and character acting/movements. Like its a very cheap video game who lags.
That ruined everything for me, if it wasn't for that it couldve been a great story but that overall messiness especially from the camera annoyed the heck out of me.
But yes, the differentiation between hearing and deaf was nice.
this episode was so intense! i think it took me thru every emotion possible. loved how it used silence vs sound, the visuals are stunning, the characters and the elements of the story all well done.
Stunning visuals and a dark plot on folklore!
wtf was that lol, sooooo awful
Terrible episode. Rubbish jerky animation and even weirder story. And wear your goddamn helmet man for fcks sake...
Hard to understand the golden woman. Did she want love or was a spirit to kill men? When she kissed him was she intending to harm the deaf knight or was cutting because that’s how body is built?
I was so mesmerized by this episode, it was just so beautiful.
Damn that was fucking incredible.
It looks like a video clip of a Sia song.
well...... im not sleeping tonight
That was super intense.. Would love to know how they created/filmed this.. Was unlike anything I'd ever seen before in many different ways..
The only episode in this season I genuinely didn't like. The camera movement is so jerky and choppy I just wanted it to stop. Some shots on the other hand look like they're straight out of a video game, where the camera finally holds still but the characters move like puppets - and I don't mean the dancing, even though that was strange and kind of annoying, too.
Other than that I also just don't get it. The basic story is obvious, but who are those people, who is she, why does she kill those men, why is she moving like that constantly, why is she covered in jewellery, why did the water react to her "death" like that , why did his hearing suddenly come back, I just have too many questions man. Mystery is good, not everything always has to be answered, but you know, SOMETHING would have been nice.
Full Of bullshit cannot understand the picture or any meaning at all
Very interesting choice of style / animation / camera in the first part, showing absolute madness. The story itself ain't bad either, original, kinda ironic. Don't know whether it's inspired by a known myth, it doesn't ring any bell.
Not sure why but it didn't quite work for me, but that was quite something, original, well built, and well made.
Came to the show for this specific episode, stayed for the others! This one is definitely my favorite visually, the weird combination of "yes realism" and "this is SO animated", the surreal uncanny valley look of things, and the siren is such a fantastic design. I've already delved into videos on Youtube about this episode, as well as people who have cosplayed the siren, made OOAK dolls of the siren, etc. It's just such an interesting take on a classic myth. The story is simplistic and might seem hidden under the absolute chaos of what's happening sometimes, but I thought it was very well executed. The allure for this episode is definitely "what the hell did I just watch" rather than a deeply engrossing story like some of the other episodes in this season. (Not kidding about the absolute chaos, if you're prone to sensory overload from media, tread with caution.)
WHAT. THE. ABSOLUTE. F:asterisk_symbol:CK.
Bad Travelling was amazing. Some of the others were ok. This episode made me want to puke until I die. What a horrible f:asterisk_symbol:cling way to end this season.
Does anyone else see the red and green pulsating tint? I see it throughout the animation, cycling from beginning to end. I checked to see if it's my device, but it isn't... aside from this distraction, the constant focus racking and the odd choppy editing, I find the story to be intriguing and sad.
Moral of this fable - Don't be a greedy bastard... also don't drink the water, there's blood in the water.
the director already said that the audience can interpret this in many ways, though like many, it is a no brainer that it can be paralleled with colonialism . and ig for me, that really hits home. overall... my fave ep of s3, the art/story/direction is just magnificent!! though: trigger warning (SA) for all those who wish to watch this!
This was so beautiful. Everything! Animation, choreography, design, colors...
Fun fact: The guy is deaf, and that is the reason why he was not affected by her in the beggining when everyone else did.
what a beautiful thing. incredible.
No thank you. Disturbing as f
I absolutely love this kind of animations. Even on real recordings I find this fascinating.
Episode 2 and 9 of this season are on it's own level. The visuals, animation and choreography in the last episode are absolutely stunning. Yes it's a vage disturbing small story but it's brilliantly done. Netflix is cancelling a lot of animation projects but I hope LD&R will have a Volume 4.
Netflix really flexing their animation with this one
The only bad thing about this episode was the Cinematography, those sudden unusual cuts, maybe they didn't have much time to make this or maybe they just wanted it to be like this? But still the CGi is phenomenal.
So one of the soldiers is apparently deaf and when you are watching as his point of view, the video sound is muted and you cannot hear anything. I've changed my speaker and audio configurations couple of times before noticing this. facepalm
Looked gorgeous. Couldn’t understand a damn thing.
They musta saved the best one for last. The motion capture is insane! :exploding_head:
Very unique look and display of dance and performing arts :ok_hand:
Hypnotic, unable to move an eye from the screen during this episode
NGL so parts of this I thought was filmed with a real camera. There is still some uncanny valley there, but this was very very good.

So unsettling and disturbing but it seems that's what the episode wants to make you feel. Reminds me of Witness episode from the first season but with much more coin taste.
