didn't much like how the characters looked but the environment and lighting looked insane.
That was even more slice of life than other episodes, throwing us into the deep end. And like Sedge trying to keep pace, the story leaves us behind if we don't catch up.
So here's the breakdown:
"Modded" people are probably due to some biotech-stuff upgraded humans when it comes to their bodies. Maybe their minds, too, but we don't see much evidence of that. Probably not. We have plenty of evidence for the apparent boons of being modded though: Cold-resistant, faster reflexes, impressive body control, overall higher muscle strength, and likely some kind of better metabolism (the drug didn't hit them as hard as Sedge).
Now for the race and why they did it: Because they're bored teens and we all did stupid sh*t in our teenage years. It's as simple as that. It's basically a way to really push the limits of their modded bodies, plus it's a gesture of dominance and likely has effects on the group dynamics.
And that's why the younger brother faked his injury, giving his non-modded brother a chance to shine and earn enough respect to enter the group. The race doubled as a rite of passage and Sedge had no way of winning it. And surviving it probably would not have been enough to truly be a part.
Plus he let Sedge know that he gave him this opening. And for a moment Sedge could have been displeased by this behavior, but he realized that his little brother cares for him and truly did place himself in danger for him.
So I hope that clears it up a bit. The previous episode about the menacing vacuum bot was a lot less packed :joy:
Loved the art-style of this episode.
Umm what?!?! story was weak af. no explanation on what "modded" is. What was the point of the race? The artwork was phenomenal though. Got some serious Samurai Jack vibes where every scene was frameable.
The simplicity is spectacular, as it makes you see that you can always achieve more, you just have to believe in yourself.
the art in this one was outstanding, and I loved the story about brothers.
Awesome art style, cool world, and a nice little story too. Exactly what you want from this show.
Great art style and a cool short story well told
Weird graphic style, but you get used to it. The whales really did look amazing though.
We only see a small slice of life story, but still get enough information to glimpse universe building background: off-planet colonies, enhanced people, weird creatures. Even throw in some character development with the two brothers' friendship.
That's pretty good for such a short duration.
Loved the animation, but everything else left me....cold
sorry, not sorry
Season 2 really is off to a very mediocre start.
The animation of the human characters reminded me of a Gorillaz music video, though I think overall it worked very well for setting, story and atmosphere. The moment the whales appeared (did they remind anyone else of the Force Whales from Star Wars Rebels?) it looked absolutely stunning though.
The story, again (reminiscent of the first episode) had a very strong "been there, done that" feeling attached to it.
In world where parts of humanity are enhanced with superhuman strength and endurance, two brothers are divided by classicism. The younger one is enhanced and fits right in, the older one is a regular human and doesn't know how to deal with his feelings of resentment and the wish to belong as well. It's a kind of story told before and unfortunately "Ice" doesn't really do anything new and innovative with it.
I didn't dislike it, but I didn't really care for it either.
Didn't vibe with this one. Art style wasn't great and it's just asshole teens being idiots.
well. great visuals, but really no story. back in the days "cartoon cartoons" was better :D
Not my thing. I liked neither the story nor the visuals.
Is it a creative choice here to make this episode sound like ####? Just horrible.
A rip off of Herbert's Dune and his sandworms. No ideas on this plot.
Very disappointing. The story did not go anywhere—there was no point.

I didn't like this one, didn't connect with any of the characters, the story, and I really dislike this kind of art style.
