I thought this was a brilliant ending. First watching the show I thought it was a bit soap opera like and one dimensional, but the characters did flesh out well for the most part. The two main characters were complex and I don't think the writers wanted it to be good v bad because they were both very complex just like in real life I guess. I was sweating from watching this so that is always a good indicator it was good as it only happens when I'm on tenterhooks watching a show or movie (haha), unless I have a medical condition I should check out.
Trully AMAZING show. I saw lots of people saying it was great and doubt it at firts, but decided to try and what a fucking awesome decision! You go through the 10 episodes loving and hating all the characters, they are not bad or good all the time and that's a very good element of the show.
I recomend this for SURE! Won't regret to watch, I'm sure.
pretentious, unbelievable story points, unlikeable characters who don't do anything remotely rational and none of it is ever questioned. this show was just infuriating.
if you were expecting something great like big little lies, don't bother watching this
This was, to put it mildly, horrible. We're expected to sympathize with a horrible woman who did horrible things but it's somehow acceptable because she felt underprivileged. This could have been a great nuanced look at the different views and perspectives in parenting but ended up as just another show shoving a political agenda down our throats.
You think there might be something after watching the first two episodes, but ultimately, the plot and character development doesn't come together. Very Meh show; wish I didn't watch it.
Dont waste your time! What a sh*t show!
It was good show but a bit over dramatic. Also this would’ve worked better as 6 episode format. And the ending was so stupid...OK I take it back. It was an OK show. I hope they don’t make 2nd season.
A fine show that explores the lies, deception, and mistrust that can be sowed between two families coming into a cultural conflict. A neat exploration of race, economic status, and sexuality for various characters. However, can really be held back by some frustrating writing and some "meh" performances at times by the main characters.
(+) Explores race, economic status, sexuality
(+) Dramatic story filled with betrayal, intrigue, deception
(=) Unlikeable characters all around, though fits into plot
(=) Very preachy on its subject matter
(-) Frustrating writing which extends conflict in unrealistic ways
(-) Strange line deliveries and facial expressions from main characters really take away from the drama
Final Verdict: 6/10 (Above Average)
I decided to watch this show with the sole knowledge that it is a book, and i'm glad I did. I started watching it with no expectations whatsoever, that got me really enjoying it. I found myself drawn into the characters and the whole plot. The acting was phenomenon.
Great drama, but I dont get what the point is or what the writer is trying to communucate.
[Amazon] An excellent novel turned into a mediocre series. There is a need to simplify things so much that Liz Tigelaar has no problem introducing racial themes when the novel talks about class differences, or turning the protagonist bisexual because she doesn't understand asexuality. It's as if the adaptation of it had been written by Elena's character, everything has to fit into her own glass cage.
Despite what others say, the story was compelling and realistic. It may have been drawn out and theatre-esque but that’s real life. They gave the characters meaning and edges, they weren’t good nor bad. I despised Reese Witherspoon but found myself at times relating to her solemnly walking through the ghost of her own life, yet I was also so turned off by the way Kerry Washington carried herself, her attitude and outlook on life, but she also had an entire life of lies eating her from the inside out.
One of the most intriguing shows I have seen in the last years. And I think it is almost one of the most polemical ones not because the plot itself but because the actions and way of thinking of the characters. I really loved it. I did not give 10 because I am not sure about the last episode, everything passed very quickly.
Little Fires Everywhere was utterly enjoyable and a thrilling watch. Ordinarily, if I haven’t seen a theatrical trailer or caught a word of mouth back story, I’ll use the strength of the artwork and media visuals to decide whether a mini-seres is worth the watch. In this case, I curated using the latter and I was not disappointed. Just like the cover art, credit roll, directorial narrative and subsequent character builds this has got to be one of the best drama’s out… congrats Hulu.
Reese Witherspoon since the days of Legally Blonde has been an on/off presence with a variation of hit and miss offerings. However, after an onscreen hiatus a decade past (possibly to concentrate on other aspects of her life) Reese has been putting in the grind like no other. Absolute must sees include Apple’s breakout “The Morning Show” plus “Big Little Lies” and film offering “The Good Lie”.
What a complex web of art imitating life, imitating art (pun intended), Kerry Washington holds her own and to be brutally honest, I haven’t felt her presence since “The Last King of Scotland”. Fans would probably add “American Son” and “Scandal” to this list, although I felt both were somewhat trope-esque in my humble opinion.
On the whole, if you’re into high-end drama, twists, backstories, moral dilemmas and hypocrisy, then this show will be just what the Doctor ordered… go forth and conquer with my blessings.
This show is the kind of series that I hope never has a season two not because it was bad but because it was so perfect as is. My wife wanted to watch it so I was along for the ride but it was instantly luring me in. Both leads are solid actresses playing good characters. The kids were doing believable kid stuff without stooping to obvious manufactured drama that were a series of bad decisions. Instead the story gives difficult situations to navigate without a clear "good guy vs bad guy".
Here there be SPOILERS...
Watching Reese play the entitled white savior was amazing. Seeing how obsessive feud consumed her weakening her already failed family bonds was riveting. Mia was a perfect example of a good person making mistakes and owning up to them but damn she had no problem going on a warpath. Both sides were written well enough to care about and agree with. I could speak about all of the great characters in this drama. Love it
This show is terrible... I had to suffer through it cause there was nothing else on and my wife wanted to watch it. She even commented "It's not the worst show we've ever watched" to which I replied "Yeah, but we've never sat through 8 episodes of crap this bad before!"
It's a long drawn-out soap opera that has no point and is a complete waste of 1's and Zero's along with any money invested in this train wreck.
There is no one in the show that is even remotely interesting or even likable. Lexi Underwood is the only one that is not insufferable and you wish would just go away. Either Kerry Washington is a superb actress or she's really just a horrible person - I don't know, but I hated her from the beginning. I give this mess a 1/10
Pathetic little series, racism where non exists, a family who believes everyone else is privileged and that they are so woke they don't even see that they brought it all on themselves, and everyone in it are pathetic liars!
Holy crap, this was an incredible journey from start to finish. It had me thinking about so many different philosophical things and just things about life in general, especially in my own life. It opened my eyes to my judgements and biases, & made me think so much about myself and how I view others or treat them.
This is what I value in a good show: one that makes the viewer question themselves and the everything in the world.
The filming and also all the little easter eggs they have are incredible as well! It’s one of those shows where you’ll want to watch again to find things you didn’t catch the first time around.
I had to go back to episode 6 to confirm, but the house they go to at the end is Mia’s parents’ house. Such a beautiful way to end the series… You should also go back and rewatch the beginning of the first episode for an added UMPH to the ending. The kids made comments in the car that I forgot about.
Also, an example of just one of the great easter eggs/nuances they include is the juxtaposition of the giant, gorgeous house with amazing Christmas lights—how the light flickers to show that it’s not as perfect as it seems—against the the cute, cozy humble house of Mia’s parents with just a few lights, but so homey. Love it.
What a perfect title…
for the chaos caused by this woman who settled, had a child she didn’t want and proceeded to treat the child like a stain on her own personal record simply because she would not conform.
If this show was based in 2020 the fact that her daughter is part of the lgbt community would be welcomed like her daughters black boyfriend. That’s how performative Elena was. It’s always about her image.
This took 2 episodes before I was hooked. For most the series I questioned who was more selfish. And maybe because I grew up in a black home I can understand Mia’s actions more than Elena’s. Sure, I think running away with the baby she was surrogating wrong, but as she admitted she lost everyone in such a short time that the baby became her entire world. She tried to raise Pearl the best way she thought she could. And when you grow up with material things you often take them for granted. Not realizing sometimes your child wants them to be “normal.”
At the end of the day both these women need serious therapy as many Boomers do.
I’ve seen the comparisons between this series and the book and I think for something set in the 90s race is an important subject to touch even if it wasn’t in the book. If the author is white I think her not touching racial tensions from a perspective she couldn’t quite understand was smart. That’s why TV shows should have diverse cast to bring a perspective only one person could not bring.
still think about how annoying that whole court case and ending was.....does my girl bebe not understand how SURRENDERING ur baby works ?
As someone who read the book, I think I like the series more than the book. Not because the plot was bad in the book but they added something to the story in the series that made the whole plot much more interesting. I just wish that they give Moody more exposure. But everyone is such a great actors and actually did great in giving justice to the characters of the book. I also love how the story went not too slow yet not too fast. It’s just something that you will easily understand even though you know that there’s a lot of symbolism used within the story (even on the book).
The cast was awesome. The only thing I didn’t like was the ending. Like the youngest daughter just drives off. Maybe they will end up making some more but sounds like that won’t happen because would have to go outside the book.
A bit of slow burning drama. Worth a watch.
7,88/10 - personal rate for this serie
Amazing!! Really! One of the best TV Shows I ever watched. Amazing actresses too, that really gave a perfect tone to the story the interpreted.
I don't know if I want a second season, cause this season has a perfect ending alone. It could continue, but the ending was good enough for me.
A story in which the lives of white people are destroyed by one black woman.

Not sure why Mia made the bitch face all the time.
