Unless I somehow got it wrong, did David was the cause of it's own possession by Farouk as a baby by trying to save himself ?
So if Syd hadn't tried to kill David, the world would be saved because he wouldn't have gone back in time in the first place. He just wanted to be left alone with his commune. So just go back and kill Syd.

As someone mentioned here, maybe when he tried to save himself from the Farouk sensed him and knew he has powers, so he used his brain as a vessel until he gets his body back... Maybe we should discuss this at this show's Reddit XD
