Legion: Season 1

1x07 Chapter 7

I'm speechless. This episode had everything: animation, black & white silent movie, awesome music, glasses from "They live", Dan Stevens in his original accent, horror, zombies, villain back from the dead, Kill Bill (kind of - in the coffin), Matrix (there is no spoon), bald father (in the anmation), Jules Vern, crazy maestro, I can keep going on, I can't handle it, this episode was an experience.

Back on track... sort of. This is a mix of everything they can possibly throw in, and I'll be damned if it makes much sense. It certainly portrays the insanity of a broken mind, so in that respect I can only say "well done". The issue for me is that I really don't like half the characters, and it reeks of trying-too-hard. On the flipside, I'm growing really fond of the rest of these people and they keep bringing me back. Nice to hear Dan Steven's English accent and the blackboard sequence was glorious.

Could have done without the beat poetry (not remotely enjoying Jermaine Clement) and the torn up, low-light hospital reminded me of playing Laser Quest. The show has spent the past two and a half episodes stuck in the same moment and it's kind of ridiculous.

This episode was stellar on all fronts! The experience overall wow. The black and white silent movie scenes, the way it all came together. Aubrey Plaza an absolute delight to watch in this role. Walter's death got me shook, jeez I did not expect that. AND on top of that I shouted at the screen when I saw the cane, heard his voice and finally saw him, alive and burned to a crisp! This could've been a season finale but there is MORE!

Best thing ever:
you created me etc I'm you, your power created me to save you etc etc
David: "... You're... British?!?"
British David: "Like I said. I'm your rational mind."

This show is golden.

Really loved the whole silent movie part in this. Such a treasure.

After seeing the David scenes, I can safely say that Dan Stevens has the best American accent.

Possibly the most engaging episode so far, with the best visual styles and narrative combined. It has the spectacles of pilot episode and plot progression of episode 4 and 5 (sorta). The episode throws up most kind of visual styles possible - black and white, silent film, animation - depicting the chaotic mind of Haller wonderfully without repeating the same style in episode 1. In the same time, the plot progresses a lot - revealing Haller's parents (that Prof X's wheelchair was great), Oliver's presence, and the fate of secondary antagonists.

It's a bit shameful that The Eye and the telekinetic mutant went out too soon (we don't even know the name of that telekinetic guy), as we don't seem to get enough narrative about them. But it returns the setting to the still on-going "war" between Melanie's group and Division Three. While the story is about personal life of Haller and people around them, Legion kickstarted the series with the context of this situation of war. Hopefully they would stay and appear in next season.

A Bolero silent film superhero setpiece was not something I knew I wanted.

For the first time since episode two I feel like I understand what’s going on.

but seriously, this is a fantastic episode. The visuals were absolutely amazing. It’s definitely one of the best I’ve seen on television. However, I still don’t feel a very close connection to the characters, which is why I cannot give a 10/10.
