2 episodes in and I'm not really diggin' it.
It has a very Dome or Lost feel to it - but both are better than this.
It has a low-budget feel and something I can't put my finger on that just doesn't grab me or really want to continue watching..Maybe because it's filmed in Australia has something to do with it...nothing much comes out of there that's good - no disrespect.
My big issue with it is all that stuff that fell from the huge hole and only little bits of stuff are in the past - really?! We're talking 20+ square (round) blocks and there's not even enough stuff from an empty parking lot in the past.
Watched the first 3 shows... not enthralled about any of it.. goodbye
4/10
I don't really see this getting a second season. I love the idea but the execution of this show is pretty bad. How did 20 square blocks equate to a handful of cars, a couple dozen people and not much else? We should see the entire block in bits and pieces all over the place, along with plumbing, electrical, subways, etc.
And this formula of the "super star" lead that is a Navy SEAL, a successful medical doctor and basically a master of all things is getting tired. Special effects look like something from the 90's.
I'm giving a couple more episodes before giving it the boot. It has a Lost vibe but without anything that made the first few seasons of Lost interesting. And the only character worth liking is the Indian stoner.
For now I have not liked it, the actors put very little desire, the idea is good, they try to put money in the special effects, but the truth is that they make many silly decisions, as boys, if I add how bad they act...it does not convince me at all.
Here we go again - another mystery type show that will get cancelled before any answers or conclusions to the story.
I've seen too many shows like this. It's... not good. Either it's gonna get cancelled too soon or they're gonna drag it out for as long as they can and then we'll get a terrible explanation. I don't know which is worse.
Hilarious how they've been stranded here for however long & the women are still all wearing makeup every day :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:. everyone has good hair. even the tribe people. This show makes such little sense on so many levels btw... Very NBC mystery 2010-2020's. Just bad. I've been trying to hold on since episode 1... Seemed interesting, but it just kept being ridiculous. Anyone else feeling it?
I don't understand how the writing on a major network show could be this bad. Maybe it's the target audience, maybe it's that they're trying to appeal to everyone and so appeal to no one, but I seriously feel dumber after watching this. It's a shame since I really wanted to like this show. I'll continue watching, but like many have already said, it most likely gets canceled.
Holy shit. I bailed at the opening credits. The circa-1990s effects are as abysmal as the "acting". I'd rather be waterboarded and forced to watch anti-vax, pro-trump idiots babble on oan then endure another second of this shitshow.
I say this looks promising for a first episode though the actors performance was lacking.
Some of the characters were giving off very calm vibes. So I couldn't connect with any of them.
I give it a 6/10. The visuals were nice. . .
From the first episode, I can tell that this will be a good season.
The scenario is quite interesting, and I can't wait to see where the story goes.
I'm enjoying it so far.
After seeing the bad acting in the first 15 minutes i dropped out.
So they cancelled Manifest....just to create another Manifest? SMH.
What a disappointment but looking at some of the stuff the 2 executives producers have done in the past it doesn't surprise me, this is like a episode of 911 directed by Walmart. I predict this is a one season show.
The worst show so far this year. What else can you say.
Story line seemed at least somewhat interesting.
Was hoping it would engage me more but the characters and the acting are way off.
It was a struggle to get through the 1st episode (failed the nod off test) .
Some shows tend to start this way until the actors get comfortable but I couldn't buy into some of
it. A psychiatrist that wants to shoot himself? seems a little counter intuitive.
Probably not going to stay on my watch list already.
Finally got around to see this and I loved it. But there's are some cons, the first it's on NBC so chances this gets cancelled are high. Then the story won't be for everyone, especially those who love to cherry pick faults on fiction shows by comparing it to reality.
If none of this bothers you, then you have a hell of a promise of an entertaining show. I hope you enjoy it.
WOW! The first episode was completely amazing! I was in complete awe the whole way through. So much mystery and intrigue.
Horrendous writing. Some of the worst dialogue I've ever been witness to. It's a never ending circlejerk of people trying to lie and making terrible, terrible decisions... and what's worse they're meant to be two highly decorated air force pilots and a navy seal who also became a doctor yet between the three of them couldn't critically think their way out of a paper bag.
If you decide to watch this, you will without a doubt find yourself feeling like you're banging your own head against a brick wall.
A decidedly average Lost alike mystery. As such it is all very by the numbers
Seriously it is criminal that a show like this got 3 seasons but other much better shows only get 1.
TL;DR: Its fine, a solid 6/10. But this isn't a gripping mystery, its a drama with some mystery added in to aid the premise.
Storyline is interesting acting for most cast is mediocre. Is somehow pretty good still , because of the story and a few interesting characters that make it feel down to Earth. The real reason it's kinda good is the engrossing storyline.
I kinda like Gavin and Ty, maybe they are the reason I kept watching
But one season was enough [Dropped]
I have watched the pilot, and is a complete nonsense, with some unrealistic characters (a surgeon who was navy seal before, how unlikely is that) and a lot of CGIs which are... well... not great...
Yet another example of the demise of the classic networks. It gets hyped ... and it's cancelled. For the love of everything holy take a lesson from Babylon 5. Work out a story start to finish. Aim at 5 seasons of 12 to 20 episodes and tell the entire story. If you don't want to air it on your network give the fans the chance to stream it pay-per-view or sell it to the streaming giants. Nobody wants to start a book where the last chapters are missing, no wonder people don't want to invest time in it. To save cost : Get unknown (better) actors, don't use bad CGI but good directing ( for example look at BBC how they portray the Weeping Angels in Doctor Who ) and keep to the rules you set for yourself in the made up universe. If time travel is a thing, I'm willing to accept it but then you can't cherry pick the things that helps the story along and ignore the rest.I'll watch the rest if it hasn't been cancelled by x-mas.
Watched it not expecting much. My expectations were meet and its bad. The 100 is better (The target audience of both tv shows are the same). BTW I'm not a big fan of The 100! But looking at NBC's line up. I guess over the top melodrama is their bread and butter! My prediction.. one season and its cancelled.
This is one of those shows that’s so bad it’s good.
I really don’t know why I watch every week as the acting and storylines are awful!!
It starts out as a bad show and just gets worse with every episode.... Season 2 makes it even worse..
The 2nd season is more of the same.
Let me summarize:
Amateur character writing and acting combined with a nonsensical script and vapid unlikable characters.
All we really want is decent acting and a little sci-fi mystery (think LOST).
PS... Special effects are very poor, video game level.
This show is perfect for Mystery Science Theater 3000.
It keeps getting lamer with every episode.
Could the writing be any worse, I'm now hoping they all die.
I don't understand how any of the actors can act with a straight face after reading the script.
similar to The 100, but way worse. It's too bad that the biggest cliffhanger of the show gets explained in the first 2 episodes .
I was hoping for LOST, but this is a mess.
Totally unbelievable writing and poor special effects.
This show gives credence to the hypothesis that the writing in the current generation of TV Shows and Movies is so bad because millennial writers are so immature and sheltered the they can't produce adult dialogue.
The Dome, in reverse! hope it is good!
Possibly the worst show that ever showed.
A show where everyone is perfectly dressed, well groomed, and who never get messy even after they fall through a sink hole and living in a forest. Welcome to another potentially great show ruined by DE&I and wokeness. Just a random story to fill empty space between commercials. Each week the writers will throw random shit at the wall and whatever sticks, is the plot of the week. Enjoy your stay till it gets cancelled.
After watching this show I would say it’s a B rated show. Throw it on the background when you have more important things to do. If there is season 2, I’ll probably watch it. But if it gets cancelled, I won’t miss this show.
Really poor casting. They couldn’t spend little bit more to get better actors?
I like the idea, I like these kind of shows, but the acting is so bad. The show will get canceled before the first season is over.
This show is so stupid it hurts, the Mystery Science Theater guys would have unlimited material here.
The ending doesn't address the time traveling at all. Just skips right over it and wraps it all up in a pretty empty bow.
The scripts were bad, the characters were bad, the scenarios they found themselves in were bad. Enough fake drama to make the real housewives jealous! The clearing where they lived actually did still look like it was on a studio back lot! Only made it to the end with liberal use of the fast forward button.
The series finale was rushed. They could've extended it up to E08, and left us with an awesome two-episode series finale.
A lot of questions were also left unanswered. There were also inconsistencies. I blame the decision to cancel it, the creator more likely had to cut a lot of stuff, thus, it ended this way.
One of the worst shows I have ever watched. It's set in -10,000 BC, yet the characters inexplicably have pristine clothes, flawless makeup, and perfectly styled hair, not to mention the men sporting immaculately trimmed beards. The most amusing part is that whenever the 'main' character speaks, they always seem to have a wind machine conveniently blowing their hair, reminiscent of a L'Oréal ad.
The first season wasn't too bad. I couldn't stand the second season. It was more of the same stuff from the first season but now all the things I disliked about the first season were 2x worse. I agree, there are a lot of things that don't make sense and I did hate how perfectly groomed everyone was throughout the whole show. All the people work outside all day long and they never break a sweat, never get dirty, hair is always clean and washed just like their clothes.
I will not be watching the 3rd season. I kept watching the second season hoping it would get better, it never did.
Lost in the prehistoric wilderness, whose is conveniently deforested. Good thing there seems to be endless amounts of shampoo, hairspray and dry cleaning, so they can focus on teen-drama and being mad at mom all day long.
since the upcoming "3rd season" is gonna be composed of "6 episodes", then it must be offered to have an availability for watching it "commercial free" or else it might be thrown to the :wastebasket:
the story is interesting enough but most of the dialogue is annoying and clichéd, really hope they just wrap this up in S3
REASONS NOT TO WATCH:
How are their clothes still clean? White T-Shirts that look fresh from the store....
A stoner that is really a science genius.
Ham acting, with sooooo much fake emotion.
Story-line that makes no sense
Likely to end on a cliff-hanger, and get cancelled
No redeeming characters, no likable prospects, no horrid antagonist
Strong religious under-tone, feels like Christian propaganda.
This show started off pretty limp and just gets worse. It's described as an "epic adventure" but is more of an epic drag. A definite wannabe 'LOST' (but at least that show managed to keep the interest going into the quite late stages) but La Brea suffers from a really weak script and an even worse cast with some of the poorest / hammiest acting I've seen; forced, lacking depth, just devoid of anything. What little story there is is pretty lame and it's punctuated by WAY overly long domestics, deep & meaningful conversations between characters (that are boring as hell and add NOTHING to the story) and way, way to much pathetic love triangle garbage, if that wasn't enough they often pad the story out with random events just to give the people who aren't currently in the main story line something to do. I've got just two episodes left of season 2 which I'll persevere through but won't be tuning in for a season 3, I wouldn't even be surprised if the show gets cancelled.
pretty good show. basically a take off of "Terra Nova". i recommend watching it before la brea they have alot in common
As of Season 2 Episode 6, these are my speculations:
Something happened which split the group into four:
1. Silas - has his own agenda (although, IIRC, he was protecting Gavin/Isaiah because he made a promise to his mother, so they're probably "aligned"?)
2. Aldrich - had her own agenda
3. Gavin's mother - to permanently shutdown 1988
4. James (father) - who doesn't care what happens to the past as long as the future is saved
I think when they learned they were causing the sinkholes, James changed his agenda. They will stay in 10,000 B.C. and restart the human history their way.
Also, Gavin's mother said that their own future (2076) changed after the sinkholes started showing up randomly in their history. This is probably what gave James the idea to keep the portal open, and maybe to stay in 10,000 B.C.
I'm also suspecting that James is using the portals as a weapon. When they opened a portal to 1988, it caused an earthquake, a sign of an impending sinkhole.
If that is correct, then wherever the portal is opened, a sinkhole will eventually show up too.
The portal from the Lazarus project is one way. The sinkhole is the loop back. That is why the sinkholes are showing up. The energy produced by the Lazarus portal needs a loopback. Since no one's controlling it on the other side, a loopback portal shows up randomly.
Now, why a sinkhole? It's not the sinkhole per se, it is the location of the original portal.
Over time, throughout history, the elevation of land only kept on going higher and higher. Back in 10,000 B.C. compared to the modern era (1980s onwards), a lot of layers were already added.
So, when the loopback happens, it returns to the same elevation, and it is underneath the layers of soil that accumulated over thousands of years. Which resulted into sinkholes.
Only problem, the location of the portal is random. The only possible fixed thing is its elevation, hence the loopback portal is always underneath.
--- Another possibility, James already knew everything beforehand. His wife, Silas, Aldrich, they were all kept in the dark as to his actual agenda.
this show, well... it is what it is!
also, it is not what it's not. it's not Lost. the show itself is kinda lame but the overall story is fun
i rated it 6/10 but i am still enjoying it :)
if you have the extra time and aren't searching for the best show ever made i'd say give this show a fair chance :)
The first episode was intriguing enough to finish the episode, but the acting and graphics were awful. However, I stuck through a couple more episodes cause currently out of good things to watch; and it actually has improved a lot.
Now eagerly waiting season 2 as even though the trope has been done before, there are some really good mysteries evolving
Good premise for a show but the writing & acting is so cheesy. Looks like NBC is losing its ability to attract talent. Such a shame.
:heart:x7
First - so glad it actually did get renewed after initially being cancelled.
This is very much a Lost-like show. Except here we find out and see a big chunk of the mystery cleared up in season 1. The ending of season 1 also raises so many more questions and possibilities. As far as who Silas is - my guess is he is also Gavin.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
Acting and CGI are not good at all, but I really enjoyed the storyline and some kind of unexpected turns. When started watching, I thought it's gonna be 2 episodes at most, but here I am all season done :)
Not too bad on face value from what I've seen so far (up to Ep 5) BUT not too bad doesn't equal good. First off, there's potential for this to drag on like Lost with 10 minute episodes dragged out to fill an hour until it's eventually cancelled. Most of the actors I've never heard of and sadly quite a few are decidedly second rate. The make-up department clearly went WAY overboard when ordering the glycerine for the fake tears, the need to use it all up before its expiry date leads to cast members bursting into tears at the drop of a hat every 10 minutes; way, way overdone to the point of being comedic. Parts of the script are desperately cringeworthy too.
Lost had the benefit of some decent actors, a good script, a decent storyline (at least for the first few seasons) and a new concept, all things that La Brea is sadly lacking.
The real mystery is how they manage to carbon date a gold ring in this show...
It reminds me of THE 100 a lot,, It's nothing new, it's not entirely bad, but the whole time travel thingit is gonna be a mess, it always is.

NBC. Where mystery is on the episode that never aired.
