[8.0/10] A really sweet Valentine’s Day episode. I like the central concept a lot -- Peggy finding out that one of the core stories of her and Hank’s relationship was founded on a lie. There’s a lot of nice observational humor to Peggy and Hank’s young courtship, and Peggy’s sleuthing in the present is charged but very funny as well.
It’s also nice to see Hank trying to make up for it, trying all sorts of things to recreate the sort of romantic moment that Peggy so cherished, only to make it worse. That is, until Peggy chats with her girlfriends and realizes that whatever he did in the past, Hank is still a good husband and partner who cares and wants to treat her right. His efforts, however cheesy or misguided the results, show that. Now they can write their story anew, in a sweet but understated way.
The B-story is a lot of fun too. Bobby getting a note from a “secret admirer” is a good plot engine. The fact that he somehow assumes it’s going to be former Olympian Kerri Strug is delightfully absurd, especially his little fantasy about it. And the admirer turning out to be his grandmother is a great punchline.
All-in-all, this one is full of laughs and that very King of the HIll perspective on love and life, but in a wholesome and ultimately uplifting way. A great one to watch on V-Day.
