we've only seen Kevin through the sitcom filter - his potential abuse/neglect/manipulation/misogyny shown as hijinks and antics.

i think there is way more to unpack with this show

At first, even knowing the premise I was immediately about to dismiss this show as a VERY CHEESY badly made 2000s era sitcom. I love how the aspect ratio, lightning, and style change to non-sitcom stereotype filming to show her 'behind the scenes' Color me intrigued.

Oh god I hope she kills him.
The sitcom portions are so accurate to that tired tv trope. I want nothing but good things for Allison

I was looking forward to this due to the intriguing premise and the first episode is a great start.
Difficult to pull the sitcom parts off constantly as they - purposefully we can presume - aren't particularly funny.
But we'll see how that will develop as we go on.

The blonde guy in the liquor store, I didn't recognize Robin Lord Taylor by looks (he's Penguin in Gotham).
He looks like an entirely different person with blonde, short hair but his unique voice is a dead give away.

I couldn’t even finish the episode.

So I knew nothing about this show other than Annie Murphy was starring in it, who like many people, had loved from Schitt's Creek. So when it starts on a really bad style 00s sitcom I was really worried. Eric Petersen looks like he's 20 years older than Annie - and she's way out of his league, even if they do dress her down. His character is extremely obnoxious and the worst thing of all modern sitcoms. At this point, I was wondering what I was getting into. But then the format changes, and that's where I was coloured intrigued. The episodes builds slowly (over 44 minutes - which is 14 minutes too long for this show), to a substantial and well earned ending.

There's enough here to definitely intrigue me into episode 2. For any newcomers, just get to the end of Episode 1 - by then, you should know if you're intrigued or not.

Oh wow, this was great, but so painful :(
Before I started watching I assumed that the “off camera” parts were still gonna be like quirky or maybe girl-bossy, like maybe she would speak to the camera and be like “lemme spit in his smoothie” but this was the real deal, so raw and accurate, and the lighting switch and camera work were genius. It gave me Wandavision vibes but like I said, painful and infuriating.
And I think for a lot of people is easy to ask “why don’t abuse victims leave?” and I think she did a great job explaining it with the car anecdote “am I a bad driver or did he did not wanted me to have the car?” This man stripped her out of everything.
And if you also see the world with a gray filter, hear that pitching sound when getting overwhelmed/anxious, feel like running away, need kindness, I hope you actually get to do better and I wish you a better happier life.
I don’t understand the bad reviews (at least so far), it’s a quality show, it’s interesting and a different format. Rooting for Allison!!!

I’ve never watched Kevin honestly, seems lame but Allison Murphy is always going to be a little Alexis.
