Jury Duty 2023

Ronald Gladden has a heart of gold and a beautiful soul. It is rare to see a genuinely nice and caring young man these days.

Is it the best thing I've ever seen? No, but also Yes. It was different, it was touching, the ultimate feel good tv. I fell in love with Ronald. We should all be a bit more like Ronald Gladden

3 Thoughts After Completing ‘Jury Duty’:

  1. Kudos for being something very different AND for pulling off something so elaborate. I left this viewing experience feeling super satisfied. Phenomenal payoff.

  2. To me, this was less of a comedy and more of an experiment. Quality reality TV. Yeah, it was funny for sure, but I was essentially more curious about where this was all going. And how authentic it was. I’m glad they showed all the receipts at the end lol.

  3. Fantastic, super-likable cast with great chemistry… especially our leading man Ronald. I hope we get to see more of him.

s/o to tiktok's algorithm for introducing this wonky but hilarious mockmentary/punk'd reality show lol

I saw a little bit of the show on Gogglebox Australia which got me curious about the show. I tried the first episode, followed by another, then another. I ended up binging the entire series in one evening.

The question is, how will they repeat this experiment if there is a season 2?

An absolute hoot! One critic said “Good concept. Could have been funnier.” But I disagree, not only was it hilarious, but it wasn’t over the top - any more shenanigans and the gig would be up.

Much better than the other recent pseudo-reality show, The Rehearsal. Uses the concept for genuine humour and camaraderie, rather than just an excuse to be an a-hole and mess with people.

8/10

(And thanks for being a good sport Ronald; you seem like a decent dude who is able to laugh at himself).

The idea had potential, but felt like too overproduced for reality TV and at the same time too weak within the writing from the comedy standpoint.

I started out really wanting to like this series. Im a big fan of both fish out of water stories and the Joe Schmoe Show, which I had hoped this would be close to.
After the first episode I wasn’t very impressed, but found it amusing enough to keep going.
At some point, I noticed that this is NOT on the level of Joe Schmoe. It became clear that a lot of scenes that center around the actors have been filmed ahead of time. I get that the story is already written so they have a good idea where things will go.
But I expect a show with this premise to film completely on the fly. Prerecorded interviews and soliloquies go against the entire point of the show.

My Ratings

10 - I love it, regardless of quality
9 - Very good, might not love but very well done or might love, forgiving some issues
8 - Very enjoyable or Just OK for me but well done
7 - Good
6 - Watchable despite not liking the film/show
5 - Mid
3-4 - Not great
1-2 - Very bad/You might be a communist if you like this garbage

[Freevee] One of the funniest comedies of the year, a weird and unique mix of mockumentary and reality TV that begins by focusing on the only non-actor of the cast, and eventually drifts into a sitcom in which he becomes himself in one more of the characters that are part of the plot. There is a special skill in the development of a script that adapts to the most absurd situations, but in the middle of the season it is positioned as a story that is consistent on its own, without the need for the reality TV component. A discovery of two of the writers of "The office".

F*cking HILARIOUS!!!!!! I don’t mind watching 10 seasons of this!

On the whole I liked it. Some bits made me think what the fuck, some bits made me cringe and some bits made me laugh out loud.
What I didn't like about it was that there was a predetermined ending and the producers would've done anything to get to it.
Having written that, I'm glad they voted the way he did.

Funny likeable people surrounded by more funny likeable people.

I really enjoyed it. I don't know how all the actors kept straight faces through everything, I'm honestly impressed.
Highly recommend!

i decided to stop watching man in the high castle for a bit because dystopia's a little harder to enjoy in 2023 and only planned to watch a couple episodes of this—but i just finished it in two nights and my whole heart almost exploded into confetti by the last episode. it's so funny and wholesome and genuinely one of the most entertaining pieces of reality tv i've ever consumed. also, the last episode gives such a cool behind the scenes look at how they produced this! i'm really glad they gave us that because it's like the cherry on top of an already awesome piece of work.

one of the lawyers makes a really timely remark too—he mentioned the team told him "help you're like the one person who's competent at both of these things" meaning practicing law and writing for (semi?) scripted television and between that and the incredible production crew behind the scenes reinforces how important these people are to legitimately good content and entertainment. AI has nothing on james marsden playing james marsden and the crew who wrote these hysterical characters.

Started off great, then it got padded with filler episodes, and ended up on a high note.

What a thoroughly entertaining and fun series. Everyone did such an amazing job and it looks as though they all had loads of fun doing it! Well done!

Show and season 1 rated a 9

I genuinely loved this. Recognized quite a few of the actors.
The guy with the gadgets was my favorite.

I'm not sure how they'll pull off another season of this after doing it already. People will know about it. Too bad

It's like watching people in jury duty and finding that entertaining. I thought it was going to be a TV show with a plot.

After watching the last episode I don't know how I feel about how this show basically Truman Showe'd Ronald. Surrounding an unsuspecting person with a bunch of actors to pull a prank on them is pretty harmless if it's for a few hours or maybe a day. But collectively gaslighting someone for over two weeks just feels wrong. That's enough time to build bonds with the people around you, especially in such a setting. And then to find out none of it was real? Maybe he can use his $100,000 to sue them for psychological damages.

loading replies

No way he’s not in on it. The actors around him are not exactly Meisner Method actors. To do a prank over this many days with actors and cameras needs improv pros and camera olympiads, its impossible. With that being said there’s lolz for sure, but is it Nathan For You/Rehearsal level believability? Sad to say, by episode 3 the guys in on it. Who cares though. Why do I care? This and other BS on my next Trakt comment. Follow me.
