I might be a minority here - but I’m enjoying it! Sure, it’s no way as good as The Boys. But I enjoy the slow pace and the depth of character building. I’m just hoping Netflix doesn’t cancel after this rough start.
Started off good with an interesting premise. After about 2 episodes got boring as shit. Ended horribly.
Basically it’s a season of backstory and introduction. Nothing really happens in the whole 8 episodes and it’s just a set up for the following
season.
I can imagine the following season might be finally good but this first season is terrible
Not too sure on the hate in some other comments. I actually found the story quite gripping and intriguing. There are some strange choices in terms of pacing and plot, but overall it worked. I actually found myself enjoying the more human flashback story rather than the modern superhero elements but I think that was the intention. People complaining about the CGI, I saw it as being a stylistic choice to not take itself too seriously and be a bit cheesy in those moments. I would say a lot of the first series is background and characterisation which does feel like some storylines are just setup without much going on. Definitely enough for me to look forward to a second series 8/10
I'm not sure what everyone is comparing this to. It's really not as bad as people are saying. There's a decent story in there, albeit a generic one, and the power rangers fight scenes are a bit fiddly but I've seen an awful lot worse. It's a steady 7....
Another show that feels the need to push wokeness over a coherent plot. Spends way to much time building up for season 2, with way to many characters, that it barely has a story that's worth watching. If your into watching random people party, do drugs, occasionally fight with terrible cgi, wokeness whenever possible, LGBT sex scenes out of nowhere added just to check that box, randomly added regular one night stands, psychopathic serial killer cops, evil capitalism, racism stories, women distrimination, injustice, and the imaginary nazi white supremacist undertone that every show seems to have, then this show is for you! (that's just from the first 4 episodes)
Basically its a showcase of random people, living woke degenerate drug fueled livestyles and o ya they have powers too! Here's a bunch of interesting historical back story flashbacks as well that aren't nearly explained enough because most of the show is wasted on letting you know just how woke everyone is. They spend so much time making sure they touched on every single wokeness point, they missed the boat on what the story was even about.
What you won't get is badass super hero fights nonstop like the boys. You get one of those and it's not great, in the later part of ep 1 or early 2. Hope we get more of them as I continue to watch it, but I've set the bar low for this one. The last few Netflix shows have felt more like a wokeness box checking exercise, that forget why people actually watch TV shows.
I wish we could remove politics from TV shows, but apparently the media knows what's best for programming us. I imagine this will get one more season and be canceled. To be clear I have nothing against any of the wokeness stuff,(or any view for that matter) but when every single shows primary directive is to try to justify the writers politics rather then tell a good story, it gets old pretty quickly. There's a word for this, o ya propaganda... You know what the nazis did to support there gross fringe belief systems to the masses.
Netflix for a while had a great run, but they are starting to feel like the CW 2.0 and it's losing its Magic quickly. Hopefully they go back to making great shows like Lost in Space, Luke Cage, Kingdom, but my hopes are low. If they would have kept the focus on the utopian family, it's back story and added a great villain backstory this would have been an exceptional show, but instead most of the show is directed elsewhere to introduce prob over a dozen irrelevant characters and showcase there wokeness lifestyles and diversity. Big miss.
Update : on episode 5 now, no spoilers but the show goes something like this. Show an interesting piece of backstory, flash to a sex scene with no plot value besides diversity, interesting backstory, flash to an LGBT strip club with no primary character appearance at all, interesting modern story, flash to girls going down on each other who subsequenty disappear from the show completely adding 0 plot value, interesting back story, flash to a racial injustice scene, interesting backstory, flash to a side random char doing drugs, and so on over and over. It's like they were more concerned in appeasing every liberal activist group in existence to the point of making new irrelevant characters just to be edgey and diverse and storyline just to check off the box, they missed the point. It's honestly laughable and prob the worse exercise in wokeness yet.
Episode 7 update: the same wokeness storyline splits have continued to waste away most of the run time, but the backstory Lovecraft adventure is a great story and the extremely rare hero action is good. The problem is, it only takes up maybe 20% of the run time with the remaining 80% random wokeness plots or character development. I get what they are trying to do, build subplots for spinoff series but the way they did it ruined the show. All of this reenforces my original thoughts, This could have been an exceptional show if the runtime was used to actually tell the story. (Even if it had 10% apparently mandatory wokeness) The entire backstory is spread across 8 episodes in 3-5 min clips and could have easily been told straight through in one story to establish the backbone of the series, but instead is paced terribly and its the only thing giving the show legs, rest is woke filler literally.
I think it was a mistake to cancel this. Episode 1 was on the weaker side but after that it the episodes are way better than most of the Netflix marvel ones.
Well Netflix does it again and cancels another half decent show. These streaming services really don't know their arses from their elbows.
I see Jupiter’s Legacy getting a fair amount of stick from all the aspiring critiques, but I honestly quite enjoyed it. It was a breath of fresh air. A nice new origin story of some superheroes we are as yet not acquainted with.
Sure there’s some questionable CGI, but the storyline and character range is quite something. I also like it when superhero shows and movies actually highlight the incredibly fine line between heroes and villains.
You know it's bad when Netflix cancels it so soon after release.
it's fine.. not great just fine.. the costumes and overall feel of the show feel cheap and cheesy.. hope Season 2 will fix that
This should of been just about the 1920s. Because while the family and moral arguments in the modern day are really good in the first few episodes. I can't bring myself to recommend this as it gets very tiring after a bit.
The flashback sequences are the best part, and they are very very good. I really wish, they had just been the entirety of the show. And I know they extended it for the show from the comic. But even then, more of the aftermath from the events of the island would have been amazing.
The actual hero scenes though, are the worst. There is barely a build to a climax, and the one it kind of has is very messy. Setting up a second season we may not get. There is no satisfying end to any storyline. Except in episode 7. The second to last episode.
The son and daughter characters are trash and I hate them. I was more interested in the anti-villian they seemed to be setting up but went... nowhere by the finale.
This show seemed like they had their funding cut halfway through making it. Maybe for the best.
5/10
So to summs things up:
History throwback part was hella good
Teenage superheroes bullshit was hella bad
I didn't think it was that bad, but I don't think it was great either. This is definitely a better production than a CW show, but not by a whole lot.
I enjoyed the show and the story was not bad, but they could have made the origin story 1 episode vs. Including it in the storyline through flashbacks in every episode. The origin background was super boring and definitely did not have enough to stretch out 8 episodes.
The thing that really broke the immersion for me was the horrible costumes for each of the shows characters. It felt like a 70's design and looked really awful. Every time they appeared in "uniform" I just wanted to say WTF and roll my eyes.
Oh and the daughter was an insufferable human being and wouldn't stop whining and looking for reasons to be a f*ck up throughout the whole thing.
I'd like to see a season 2
What a waste of money and talent.
Started somewhat ok, then got boring, then the very last episode was really good, then it got cancelled.
Damn, what a confusing series lol I almost didn't understand the ending.
I liked the effects, but the script was not well written.
There's been more than a handful of really good shows that have been canceled shortly after release due to background politics and not lack of interest from the public. Unfortunately, this show is one of them.
It has potential, sad i wont see a second season. I understand it was too slow for ppl to last. I wasn't interested in the recollections until the very end journey and they felt like the majority of episodes. Pretty much I was only interested in Chloe's story but it had so little screen time it felt like nothing really changed from the beginning. The end was interesting and it's why I'm bummed I won't see a second season.
We should get more superhero serious stuff not the comedic ones where every joke is the same. I hate that these ones have so many seasons. Ppl like dumb entertainment.
the fake beards burns my eyes .. extremely bad make ups*
Thank god they canceled this show. All dialogues were boring as funk and the only thing they had these dialogues and only one CGI fight scene across all season! Only flashback scenes were watchable since they are fullscreen 16:9 captured and were in the 40s or 50s. Then it's one of the most boring shows I watched; I can't quit watching when I start a show (really bad habit); but I really had a difficult time while I trying to watch this to end. I cried with joy when the season is over. Then today I cried with joy when it's canceled! You'll know it's a really bad show even if Netflix cancels it...
Netflix cancels another one. Or shall I say "Cancelflix"
I think it is a great series overall, only thing I have an issue with is the time jumps.. I fricking hate whenever some series tries to pull this shit and fails miserably, but the flashback scenes were way more interesting than the current timeline.
For people who are making the comparison, I Personally enjoyed this more than 'The boys', and would definitely watch a second season, unfortunately I can't say the same about the latter.
I hope they bring back SkyFox in the second season, he is the most relatable character of them all. I'm starting a simp club lol
A soap opera about how great america is and an unconvincing religious tirade, jesus this jesus that, hope against hope that somewhere along the road it gets better
not that bad tbh and I think it has potential
Trash, rubbish story, silly multi timeline storytelling which is way too old. The origin arc takes way too long and it's just as silly as they come... it's a pass for me, I pass on a second season as well if they ever make one. I like some of the actors, it's a shame.
I liked it. But, I think should have done back story as season 1 and then make season 2 all about them in the present. But surly they have a shit budget and can’t spend too much on CGI. That means fillers. In saying that I will be watching season 2! :)
Or I´m very lost Or...
This is a Lovecraft history (lol one character speaks openly XD, 30`s adventurer group Chtlulhu adventures) that turns into a superheroes history and the global history I dont have a clue right now ...
I love it.
Seems like they tried to be like 'The Boys' but ended up more like a CW show with their shit CGI and cliche stories/characters.
Netflix is really going for the quantity over quality method nowadays. And there is bound to be a few duds in there. Unfortunately this is one of them for me.
EDIT Just finished it. The flashback scenes are so much more interesting than the modern.
Netflix Failed version of the boys but i did like it don’t get me wrong just boring, flashback scenes are the best but too many
Very disappointing series. Not surprising it got cancelled. The ending is far from 'closing', so I cant even recommend watching it if you really like superhero series. The only thing good / enjoyable about the series is that it's not extremely over the top woke.
I been watching all eight episodes without any break now and I really loved it. I can't really point at any particular reason right now. But this show deserves more creed then it got. I want more!
I hate flashbacks between past and present. For that reason alone, a bad serie.
I've started so I'll look the season to the end.But in my opinion it is not recommended
Solely based on the last episode and the shows cancellation, I cannot recommend this. There is no resolution of any kind, even a climax is mostly absent. As long this will not get a second season (and it is highly unlike it will) I advice to avoid.
This review is based on episode 1. This show so far is extremely depressing a highly dysfunctional family of superheroes depression era suicides is this the best we can do for entertainment what a sad sad commentary
This wasn't good.
Bad CGI to prop up a story conceived by Mark Millar, who, despite a wealth of more interesting thought in the world, continues to have people buy his cliché shlock.
But for those looking for their superhero stories to be simple, free of politics or point and as bland as butter on white toast, it might serve as a brief distraction from being mad at the sky.
After Superman & Lois, Invincible, I'm not sure one more show about the same things will be necessary. But the flashbacks are great.
In overall it was a good watch.
But i have some negative comments About it.
1-This entire season is only introduction to season 2.
2-spending 8 episodes lecturing us about the code the code but at the end I don't know why sheldon came up with it or what is actually the code beside not killing.
3-they have to replace their wig/facial hair person whether with Josh in the present or Leslie in the backstory..their wigs are so bad they through me off the story.
Don't expect to see anything like "The Boys". This is essentially the little PC brother of "The Boys".
Bottom line, it is watchable. It's not a great show but worth a look-see especially if you're starved for new content. This show essentially deals with an aging conservative super-powered community and its younglings who are a bit more progressive in their ways. The younger generation sees things in many shades of grays rather than black and white like their parents and they feel like there is a time and place for ultimate violence.
I actually enjoyed the back-story of the parents more than the storyline of the present.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
What a shit show !! The only thing good is the acting. The script is meeeeh, the dialogue are not profound as the character (The CODE, The CODE, THE CODE... And the reporter who was very fierce when she got her superpower she is obedient and do what her husband say), the timeline is not coherent (like they all chose to make children at the SAME Time...), its a very machiste show : The girl is a mess/drug addict/whore and the son is a good boy but struggling... and the WORST : the past and the present mixed together and at final deliver a non-finished story (each part in the past is too short and is not coherent with what is happening in the present, it's not even a flashback).
We need the Snyder Cut to this show because I have no idea what the fuck is going on.
Did these creator not learn anything from the shitty ass Justice League movie? Why would they edit a show the same way? So stupid.
It’s got a lot of potential but the poor editing ruins this show.
I wouldn’t recommend this show. Maybe for only die hard comic book fans.
I wish they would make a "No Chloe cut". All scenes with her I found awful. Not sure if it was the actor, script or both. But my feeling is both.
Else I find the concept interesting, children of superheroes that also have powers.
Seems like a lot of negativity and some slating of the CGI.
Personally I think it was an interesting take on the genre, yes it was mostly back story but the back story was captivating and really draws interest for season 2. Special effects were great as far as I'm concerned for a TV show. Deffo a good watch!
Not good not so bad. Looking forward for season two
This show is a complete waste of time. It spends so much time doing flashbacks and setting for a second season, that it never did anything for this season. I would rather watch Thunder Force than this and that's saying something.
Netflix needs to chill...take their time in developing good shows without rushing just for the money

Final edit: The entire season works as a backstory, hopefully leaving the better stuff to next season.
The non linear story can be easy recognizable (my son was the one that noticed) when the story goes back in time the screen opens wide and wehn they get back to the present it closes back.
I loved it, guess some people will hate it. For me it was good entertainment.
First episode in. Seems interesting. I guess Josh fake beard threw me off a bit. That said I'm enjoying it. So far seems to be focusing on the family dynamics.
Edit: So now 5 episodes in I'm loving it. The only downside for me is the, what now seems to be the norm, constant back and forth of going to past and present. Seems nowadays everyone wants to use a non linear story, from The Witcher to this series. Give us a break lol. Anyway at least unlike The Witcher this is really easy to understand given the differences between epochs. Hope you enjoy this as much as me.
