What is your spaghetti policy here?

[6.1/10] This one was kind of all over the place. Charlie is a comic goldmine as always, and from his spaghetti obsession throughout the day, to this inability to under-stand 3D glasses, to his Vietnam flashback-esque reaction to smashing rats, he was a bright spot. But the rest of The Gang trying to “not be cynical” and throw him a surprise party was disjointed without a lot of great laughs. It felt like a premise in search of a more cohesive story, and instead of a direct path felt like an excuse for the show to stitch together a bunch of sketches.

The reveal that Frank was orchestrating this all to get himself a surprise party, and was the most cynical in his efforts to convince the others to not be cynical, is clever in principle, but didn’t really land. And hey, it’s always nice to see Chad Coleman around (even if he’s wasted here), and the lunacy of Duncan’s house or the spa setting has some juice to it. But overall, this one felt flat when separated from Charlie’s antics, save for the rest of the gang’s efforts to make the items from Charlie’s dream journal.
