5x11 Mac and Charlie Write a Movie

[8.1/10] Another winner. The A-story, with (shockingly) Mac and Charlie trying to write a movie is hilarious. Charlie’s dumb ideas (Dolph Lundgren's character being named Dolph Lundgren, his head just being a giant nose) cracked me up. It’s a perfect example of the show use escalating absurdity to comic effect, from the initial generic action movie premise, to Dennis’s “we show full penetration” addition, to the library acquaintance putting an extra layer of gloss on it, the writing and silliness of the whole thing wins the day.

The B-story, with Dee and to a lesser extent the rest of the gang trying to find stardom as a “featured extra” on the B-unit of an M. Night Shyamalan film is good for several laughs as well. Dee trying to get noticed and annoy the second unit director was amusing, as were Frank’s attempt to be an agent.

Last, the “twist” with Dennis writing his own movie on his phone based on Mac and Charlie’s story from the opening scene, and Frank messing it up with his sausage grease was a really amusing conclusion. Plus Frank eating sausages out of his pocket is the kind of gross but silly shtick that I find amusing.

Overall, another good episode. Season 5 may be the point where the show fully hits its stride.
