[7.7/10] Another fun “issue” episode from IASIP. I like the goings on at the bar as one big metaphor for global warming itself. The idea that people are having too good a time to stop the activities that are causing climate change, and revolt when somebody suggests conservation or cutting back, isn’t exactly subtle, but it’s done with the show’s usual brand of lunacy. Dennis and Mac’s arguments over whether this is all part of God’s plan or people should help themselves was very funny, and Frank worrying about how it’ll affect old people was worth a laugh as well.
But my favorite part of this one was Dee/Charlie B-story. Those two play off one another so well and despite that, it’s not a pairing we get a lot, so it’s one to cherish. Kaitlin Olson absolutely killed it when shifting between Dee’s frothing rage and stepford smile when she was and wasn’t on camera. The show does a nice job at taking the stuffing out of influencers who talk a big game about conservation but are a little too spoiled and trendy to take it seriously when the cameras aren’t rolling. At the same time, I like Charlie’s nonplussed reaction to everything, and his garbage clothes, as befits the character’s laissez faire attitude.
Overall, there was no groundbreaking insight into this one, but it managed to spoof both people with their heads in the sand on climate change and people who are posers about it, with lots of success and good laughs, so I count as a win!
These are my type of favorite episodes. Also it’s so crazy to see how this show started in the early 2000s and now they are talking about instagram stories and uber, I really hope for the show to go for another 10 years at least.
