IRMA VEP is a documentary series exploring the dark magic of filmmaking. No, not really, but it wants to be. The industry is going to love the series because it loves admiring itself in a mirror. Most viewers will scratch their heads wondering what it is about. I wonder if Alicia Vikander took this project because she was unsettled with her meteoric rise in the industry and she was questioning what she wanted in her future as an artist. As usual, she is the best thing about the series. I can’t help wondering if Kristen Stewart accepted her minuscule role in the series for the same reasons. Two performers who could have the pick of their next project. If you are at all captivated by the industry, you may hang in there for the whole series, seeing if it can land on its feet. If you are there only to be entertained, I doubt you’ll hang in there or be very disappointed you abdicated your time. I rate the series, on Alicia alone, a 7 (good) out of 10, but, otherwise it is a 5 (meh). [Existential Experiment]
This TV show (yes, it's a TV show) is very quirky, sexy and at moments hilarious. If you love Olivier Assayas, this is for you! His aesthetic flourishes! If you aren't a fan, it might be a bit of an odd series to get into. The craft here is absolutely phenomenal but in today's TV atmosphere it doesn't have anything to say besides stirring the conversation of whether long films exist, they don't. So personally, I'd pick less polished stuff like Dark Winds or Somebody Somewhere, why? Because they acknowledge they are TV shows and that they're about characters moving through the motions. This on the other did indeed feel like a film, where only certain characters get fleshed out, and although fun as it may be, it doesn't necessarily feel like it has something to say as its filmmaker might believe.
I'm not sure why this is so highly rated. It is DULL

I kinda just went along for the ride on this one. Read about the original silent production, and the 90s film about a director's hangup for the skin-tight costumed actress and wondered what this would do with it. The plot ambles along about a new version serial production of the original. The cast is fantastic and it is superbly acted. Doesn't really make a big splash, or will be seen on most people's radar, but the crisp snippets of the silent production are fantastic, as are the musical choices. What I found most interesting was the recreations of the silent era mode of production (Musidora's biographical reflections on it too) and the way the central character gets so involved with the part she is playing it causes her to change not only who she is but what she can do. The funny aspects are with the other players and the director seeing his psychiatrist. Only grouch is I really thought she'd hit it off with some one (anyone really she encountered although perhaps autonomy was preferred to being cast into a mire of sentimentality and relatedness) and form some stable relationship, as she did come out of a messy lesbian relationship (she is not exclusively so). The best thing I've seen Alicia Vikander in frankly. 7/10
[HBO Max] The circle closes adapting the original series versioned as a film in 1996 as a series. More playful narratively speaking (formally the film was better), and there is more irony in the reflection on cinema turned into an industry for companies of cosmetics. The subtext beats the traditional narration, more exuberant in the leading role of Musidora through fragments of her biography. Macaigne and Eidinger are brilliant, Vikander has little to deal with.
This series feels more like a documentary about making the French film classic, then an entertaining series.
Alicia is sweetly fragile in her role as an actress, becoming more powerful when she becomes who she plays. Rene Vidal is unfortunately the only really interesting character. Is he really crazy, or just....?
I haven't added a rating since I can't decide yet if i like this series or not.

Well I'm watching this... up to episode 2 now... but what is it?! I love Alicia and Adria. This is why I started to watch it. But now I'm just annoyed and bored of the show. Entertainment is meant to be entertaining. But I feel like I'm just wasting time watching.
