Initially, I thought this was just some martial arts action series, but then a character's eyes became luminous and his fighting skills were briefly 'enhanced' -- I was instantly hooked. I usually fast-forward through fight scenes and gun battles -- not in this show, amazingly choreographed sequences not to be missed. Great story, except there wasn't enough of it :-) If there were only to be 5 episodes, it would've played better for me as a miniseries with plot resolution and a hint of potential continuation. Didn't care for the multi-pronged cliffhanger finale -- I liked the episode, just not they way they ended things.
The actor who plays M.K. seemed miscast, I think David Mazouz (Gotham's young Bruce Wayne) would've been perfect in that role. Regardless, still loved the show :-)
If you're into physics defying fight scenes / martial arts / choreographies then this show is definitely for you.
Anybody else: don't bother.
Acting is mostly awful if not straight abysmal (MK), with exceptions like Stephen Lang (the man in the wheel chair) who is sadly only a minor side character.
Story telling is basically non-existent, you're thrown into the world with nearly no explanations at all. Even in a 6 part mini series you could do a much better job than this. There's an intrigue running with many sides, what's not even interesting or good explained and only background noise for the fights. Similar with the world order of barons as factions ruling people / areas, only background noise.
Due to being thrown into this without any (explicit) explanation, the establishing of characters is non-existent as well. The show fails to make you care for any character and for whom you should root for. Forgettable characters overall.
There's no reason for me to care for a mass murderer like Sunny to get out of the badlands.
Plans to do something are almost never explained, like giving all women a voice. How to achieve that? No clue, but the ninja fighting is cool... It's understandable that Sunny wants to get out of the badlands with his pregnant girlfriend but that's it where the show stops making sense. Basically everything is incredibly vague.
Perhaps because there's too much: feminism, a family intrigue where the son betrays the father, the most loyal fighter betraying his master, the wunderkind story, the escape for a better life story, teenage love, love triangle between baron, his wife and his side-wife. Pretty messy.
A show lacking in many aspects, ending on a few deus ex machina and an attempt of letting the possibility for a full season or second mini season open. The really interesting things and questions are never explained at all.
Ehh.
Do not waste your time with this piece of shit wrapped up in a shiny paper.
The writing, the dialogue, the entire direction of the show, were absolute shit-tier.
The fighting was pretty damn good in the 1st season. But most of the fights were bending physics harder than a Chinese martial arts movie, some looked straight up goofy.
Good visuals, decent acting, and good camera work. That's about it.
Just watch season 1 and 2. Forget 3 ever existed.
This serise has bad ending & bad plot, The black eyes in first and second sessions they was powerful and unkillable, in session three, army of them defeated easily, and the Master is another story, i was very disappointed, she was too waek in session 3, with all that knowledge and experience in how to use the black eyes, she killed like a normal one.
Overall it was interesting and enjoyable Show.
I feel like the first season was the peak of the show with the second season being very close to the peak. The storyline in the second half of the third season, I feel like it ruined the season. I also think the second half was unnecessary as well. It would've been better off having eight episodes instead of sixteen. And even then, I think the first season having only six episodes was perfect. They made the wrong choice by having the second and third season having more episodes than that. I get it. They wanted to add more plotlines, characters, mythology, that sort of thing. But I feel like more episodes prevented those things from being utilized to their full potential. Longer episodes, like over an hour long, with only six episodes to each season would've been a better play. Obviously, that's not how it happened and what is, is. If this show ends up getting picked up by a different network, I think longer episodes and better writing could really make it great.
I really enjoyed this pilot episode, its great to see more martial arts implemented into TV shows.
The story (the pieces we know so far) are intriguing and i can honestly say i was entertained throughout the whole first episode.
The colours in this show just pop, lets see if the rest of the season can hold up.
i was searching for serie like this and now i found it. this one is better than GOT & TWD all together. love Daniel Wu
This one is on my top list at the moment. It feels like every moment in episodes are filled with action...as for the story some like some not..Its not new and not the greatest I've seen but its a still pretty damn decent one.
Mix of Revolution (2012), Magic City (2012) and Kings (2009) which all got canceled. I dropped it after 20 minutes because it was boring and didnt have anything original. Maybe it's for people who like Superhero series, /shrug. This costume drama is too expensive not to be canceled for it's relatively small target audience. If you liked the pilot do yourself a pleasure and put this series on pause untill it concludes , most likely not going to happen, waste of time and money. Not having a white guy as lead also isnt helping the series.
Only Baije carries this show
Staffel 1 viel besser als die 2.
When I started watching this series I thought it would be something so different.
But this episode (2x05) is so much cliché that I decide to stop watching the show.
I never wanted it to end. The show just felt like it could go on forever because of the possibilities that were laid out in the story telling as well as in the realm of reality in witch the story exists. Now that they have ended the series, I am totally disappointed because it seems that so much potential was left to ??????????? . Any way, here's hoping for a worthy sequel / continuance of the possibilities squandered !!!!!!!
3 Thoughts After Giving Up on ‘Into the Badlands’:
I made it through the first season of this show. It had a little potential, but it failed to grab me enough to continue.
The fight scenes were cool. From what I remember. Which isn’t much.
The moment I heard the show was canceled, I knew I wouldn’t be revisiting it.
Excellent series of its kind Very original
Fake flying type kung fu in a post apocalyptic setting following typical storylines, 60% well done.
Fun to watch but not great, good as nighttime show or background show. Won't re-watch.
Amazing show must watch. Wish it was renewed. my gosh the action is A+
Great Show with the great action I ever seen on tv shows.
Great Show. Fighting scene is great
This show is very good! It has epic scenes! It got me addicted to it since the pilot episode. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a TV show that contains fight scenes and suspense. :)
Kudos to the producer and writers.
It's really much better than iron fist. Has good fight scenes and a bit of history
Great TV show. If you like action and martial art.. This is for you!
Must see, I think If you like action show you should see! Great TV show. I hope for sequel or second season
If u like to look a karate kid movie, this is the right show! On the contrary let it go!!! No way... I tried to see 4 ep!...
I wonder if anyone else can recognize the predominant martial art style as Okinawan. Looks like Shorin-ryu, perhaps some Goju-ryu. The actual techniques used in these fight scenes were probably the best I've ever seen in TV. Quite refreshing.
It's a great series. always been a martial arts fan .love the actors .
I understand it's generally dumb to try and review something based on the pilot, so keep in mind that's all this is an impression. My concern is that this will try to rely too heavily on the genre and not the story telling or character development. The structure feels very deliberate but very old. There's enough fighting so that you understand the capacity and potential for the most intriguing characters. It's very colorful. There's a word that always escapes my mind when trying to describe a show that feels "marginally soap opera like." If you consider something like Arrow and The Flash as campy and lazy mashed up with Jane the Virgin, that's explicitly a telenovela, but then give them a bigger budget and cast people who have the talent of the least disagreeable characters on a show like Heroes, you can start rounding out how this feels. It's worth noting, I had to stop watching Jane the Virgin, never really liked Heroes, and get so much reading done during The Arrow and Flash that it barely constitutes watching. Maybe it's a show for fans of Banshee? Or Bastard Executioner? The kind of thing that makes you chant "Me man, me like violence" in your head if you don't get distracted and stop watching. Coincidentally, I just watched Ip Man for the first time before catching this, and the pocket and style of that movie seems like what this show will perpetually fail to live up to.
Great show so far. Can amc do anything wrong lately?
I guess i will watch last ep. of first season, but skip everything between first and last.

Storywise it is not the greatest thing, but damn the martial arts scenes are incredibly well done and make up for it! If you like the fighting genre (IP Man) you will definitly enjoy this, otherwise you should probably skip this.
Daniel Wu and the Barons are of interest, the other characters are shallow imo
