Howards End 2017

Solid miniseries. I love Kenneth Lonergan, the guys is just so good! When I heard he did an adaptation of this I had to watch and I was surprised the reception to this was mum considering its got everything Emmy voters crave for. Solid performances from everyone but it's not unique in a way for me to consider it a favorite like Mildred Pierce. Perhaps Lonergan loved the novel a lot (the influence to Margaret is very apparent).

Also, Matthew Macfayden plays a capitalist jerk who gets humiliated for his sex acts, is it me or is Henry Wilcox the ancestor of Tom Wambsgans?

I am a fan of Hayley Atwell and Philippa Coulthard. I have only watched one episode so far but I will definitely follow with more. Its no Downton Abbey but it has potential.

From the music, to the costumes, to the characters, to the intricate plots, to the beautiful scenery and production–everything felt near-perfect in this miniseries. I have to say that I am biased towards period dramas but this one surpassed my expectations because it was so brave and daring. I loved the references to the societal/gender expectations of the time and how they intertwined it into the story but took a different approach and didn’t shove it in our faces. It was always in the background as a strong voice looming over the four episodes. Atwell’s acting went above and beyond anything I’ve seen her do before, and come on, she played Agent Carter. She was so poise and calm and collect but still possessed a fierceness inside of her. I just honestly couldn’t get enough. Bravo Howards End for giving us a story to be proud of and fall in love with because it chose to do one thing–it dared to be different.
