She really did manage to get away with murder. A wonderful series finale that shows Annalise's final win in court but at the cost of many more deaths to follow. A quick fast forward in time shows where her students end up and ultimately her death and funeral. The twist with using Wes to play the adult version of Christopher was interesting but predictable because there was no way that Wes could still be alive. But it followed with the show's plans to keep viewers guessing and coming back for more.
The show overall managed to accomplish a lot by incorporating many topics and ideas to make the show diverse and inclusive for many and allow such representation to be seen and treated as normal in such a clever drama. By challenging society's perception of race, sexuality and mental health makes this show more relevant now than ever. I liked the full circle moment of having Christopher teaching intro to criminal law in the same style as Annalise. It is what got me hooked on the series in the first place.
I am 100% satisfied with this ending. One of the best series finales I've seen and it truly did the story justice. Okay, so first of all; I love love love Bonnie. Always have, always will. Nobody will ever change my mind about this. To see her die (and I blame Frank for it) was heartbreaking. I always hoped she would have a happy ending because she has been through so much. However, I think the way they wrote it was beautiful and it made sense. To have her die like this, alongside Frank (damn you Frank!), in the arms of Annalise, it brought everything full circle. She did her part and now she rests.
I LOVE the funeral scene, seeing moments of Annalise her life with Tegan, seeing Oliver, Conner and Laurel older and CHRISTOPHER! I know some people hoped it was Wes but I like this way better. And that accent! O my god, YES and that he - of all people - is the new professor for that class, being mentored by Annalise... I cried so much happy tears.
For a moment the writers had me concerned that after all these years they would break up Oliver and Conner, thank God they didn't. This was by far the best couple on the show and I never once gave up on them. I'm also very satisfied with how things ended for Michaela, she was selfish from the start and ended up 'alone' which served her right.
So this is the end, bittersweet and I will need a moment - like days - to process this. Fantastic show, always in my heart.
This was one of the best series finale I ever watched. True, the show kind of lost itself a little bit in the last two seasons, but still was able to deliver some great moments. And this, this finale, OMG! I Loved it! It was so touching. Bonnie and Frank dying in Annalise's arms was one of the most sad moments of the series. What an actress! What a scene! The final scene, I get that some of you may find it was bad, or nonsense, but honestly, I couldn't ask for a better end to this journey. How to Get Away With Murder ended in the best possible way. It gave me chills.
This show had its ups and downs but this final season made up for it all. Bringing everything back from the very first season, tying it all together, putting Annalise properly front and centre, bringing the show back to the courtroom where it belongs, turning everyone against one another, ruining relationships and building new ones. Killing Asher, Bonnie and Frank is ruthless and painful after you've followed them for 6 whole seasons but it wouldn't be HTGAWM without high stakes, pain and shocking deaths. Absolutely loved everything about this ending, especially Annalise getting her happy ending with my girl Tegan. Been watching this show since day one, gonna miss it, and gonna miss Viola Davis' Annalise Keaing especially - one of the greatest characters of all time, portrayed by arguably the best actor of our generation. Goodbye How To Get Away With Murder, thank you for the wild ride!!
Once again they did the trick.
I wasn't expecting all of this, but I'm glad they got a closure.
This episode was more emotional than I expected, let me star by saying that Annalize's speech was amazing, that she was innocent in addition to any circumstance. She did not commit murder, so I am happy that she was released. Enough was enough, after all that messy life she needed a break and a new start.
What an amazing performance Viola Davis did during all these seasons. Bravo.
Frank ... What a character, he evolved a lot and when I thought He was going to make it another secret came to ruin his life. Maybe if Bonnie hadn't say anything, she would be alive, maybe ...
Bonnie ... She had been trough so much too, I wanted her and Frank to have a happy ending, but that would be asking for much, this was going to happen anyway but it was so sad to see them died.
Connor and Oliver broke my heart, I just couldn't see how much they were suffering, that's the true love there. They sacrifices all for each other. They will always be my favorite couple in this show.
Michaela ... I knew she would end up alone, this is how she was building her destiny, to be a fierce but also lonely woman.
I'm glad Tegan took her chance, even if it didn't end as she wanted, but it was good for her. She deserves someone who loves her as much as she does.
Laurel had her happy ending, without her messy family and the need to run away from time to time and, of course, with the adorable Christopher who ended up looking like WES. I loved that scene, Professor Castillo.
What an amazing show this was. I loved how much we played with our minds and we were always amazed at the end of each episode.
Thanks for the ride.
A fitting and bittersweet end to a great show. This episode really gave me chills in the final act. Although some plot lines seem very redundant now, practically pointless and mostly time filler, I am truly going to miss a lot of these characters, but alas all good things must come to an end.
How did what I see fit into 40 minutes, tie up the plot and also left me bawling
6 years
6 seasons
90 episodes
The greatest cast
we never forget Annalise <3 ..
absolutely sobbed though the last 12ish minutes of that finale.... so heartbreakingly beautiful. wow.
Superb. But why did Gabriel end up with $64k from Asher + $78k from Frank? Stonks :joy:
I have to say something. First two acts of the episodes, perfect. Viola Davis is such an amazing actress and i completely loved her and the show. BUT (and it's a big but) what the hell happened in the last 10 minutes? What was that? And that Wes red herring... Unacceptable.
PERFECT ENDING! THANKS FOR THIS SHOW, SHONDA!
Well, interesting finale. Nice red herring with the whole Wes making the appearance at the beginning of the season.
I hated Michaela from day one (even though she’s wonderful to look at) so I was glad that Ollie made her cry, and quite rightly too.
It was no secret that Connor never stopped loving Ollie and was just trying to protect him - albeit by making terrible choices.
Tegan is about 15 years younger than Annalise so that’s a bit weird but also saw that coming about two seasons ago.
Nate was always a good guy (minus the murder) so was obvious he would do the right thing eventually.
Connor, being more or less the only one to not actually murder anyone ending up in prison was just savage.
All in all, a great series and a lovely finale to bring it all to a close.
I really didn't expect the series finale to be this good!!
I've always dubbed this series as my go-to WTF series with all its twists and turns. But this finale is a firm end to what has been the mother of all roller coasters. Much kudos to Viola Davis for a stunning and electrifying performance from start to finish.
This was so satisfactory. I did not know what I was expecting but definitely this was great.
can't believe im finally done with this show, god bless.
not sure if this is a spoiler but lemme just say that Eve is bangable even when old, like, that woman truly kept her game. im not buying that she'd have gray hair tho. we just know she'd dye it.
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!!!! THAT IS A Series Finale LADIES AND GENTLEMEN
Annalise Keating A Legend :clap::clap::clap:
also i am so sad that bonnie and frank died
sorry to see this show go.
Well. I cried really hard at that.
Oh my God I am so sad that this is the end. I think this show is truly a masterpiece and one of its kind. Viola Davis is simply amazing, her acting is unbelievable! Also, I was so right to love and trust Tegan, she is just the best. That love confession was cute. However, I don't really see her ending up with Annalise. Annalise belongs to Eve. On another note, I just loved how this last season they connected so many things back to season one. Which reminded me why I started to love this show in the first place. I really have to rewatch since I forgot about many plots in the meantime. Glad to see some characters healing, like Olli&Connor and Annalise and Nate and Laurel. BUT why did Frank have to die? Omg he was my favorite character. He deserved a happy ending. That last incest storyline was soo fucked up, him dying like this just overdid it. Poor Frank. I guess he was just too traumatized by finding out about the truth. And Bonnie, too? Why God why. This was the last episode. Let them live. They could have ended it without the shooting. There was no need to add even more suspense to this episode, as I was on edge the whole time anyways. However, I loved how they finished the series with Christopher being the new professor. Sure, it was ridiculous for him to look exactly like Wes, but it was nice to have Alfie back. And that accent? Damn. Still, I would have loved for the whole truth to get out somehow. I felt unsatisfied. In Annalises shoes I would have put the truth on the table. Those ungrateful brats murdered her husband and wanted her to go to jail for it. Especially Michaela. Connor at least wanted to pay for his sins - even though he wasn't a killer. And Laurel got back to her senses, too. And why did we not find out about whether the Governor really was behind all of it? I really wanted to find out! This felt unsatisfactory as season 6 generally felt rushed and crowded. Too many plots which did not get explored in a proper way and ended without closure. Last but not least, the K5… Asher being absent in the finale hurt. I miss their old days. Damn. So many deaths. Such a good show. Freakin good.
AAAAAHHH, I apologize in advance but I didn’t like this! It wasn’t bad but it was not I what I wanted -and what I wanted was based on what the show was giving, like I didn’t make a fantasy in my head- so I’m disappointed.
Where do I even begin? Well, first of all THEY DIDN’T GET AWAY WITH MURDER! Yes Annalise got acquitted but she never killed anyone so she didn’t get away with anything, she just got justice. Wes, Asher, Michaela, Connor, Bonnie and Frank killed people and they didn’t get away with it. But you know who killed 2 people and got away with it? NATE! So I guess this was Nate’s show.
Now specific to this episode, I wanna start by complaining about Annalise’s court outfits, they looked out of 2005, she’s always been so fashionable, I don’t understand why she was wearing matching suits, and I don’t think I’ve seen a brown blazer in 15 years.
I didn’t like the trial, I imagine a trial like this would last a couple of months so I wish they had given it one more episode, cause the courtroom is where the show shines the most, imagine if instead of giving us Michaela and Gabriel drama, Annalise’s dates with a character we never see again, Conniver’s threesomes, we had one extra trial episode! I wanted to see the prosecution present evidence for every murder, like what’s linking Annalise to Sinclair? We never hear that part of Micconor’s testimony, or to Miller? There’s no physical evidence, no murder weapon, nothing! So I wanted evidence presented by both sides instead of feelings and emotions! Michaela’s testimony was just “she was a bully” that was pathetic! So we know the fbi didn’t have any evidence against her, but Annalise sure would’ve had against Miconnor!!! I would’ve given everything I have for Annalise to reveal how they did kill Sam and present evidence! So the trial was dumb, but I loved her closing argument. And I have to admit I cried when they took Connor, he was the only one who didn’t kill and the one who felt the guiltiest and took it the hardest, but maybe by going to jail he’s gonna be able to forgive himself? I wanna imagine that he only did two years and also if he had never turned on Annalise things would’ve been different, Nate and Laurel stood by her and they had their happy endings so we could say he made his own bed.
And I don’t have words about Michaela, I think we were all rooting for her to be successful and get her happy ending with her “Barack” but she made shitty choices -like cheating on Asher, cheating on Gabriel, betraying Annalise- and I insist she technically killed Sam and what she did to Simon was horrible -I was hoping for him to make a comeback as an state witness so he could stay in the US- but through it all I was still low key rooting for her professionally but betraying Connor was like the unforgivable thing, and I can’t get over how loud and confident she was accusing Annalise for killing Sam when it was her!
Then thinking about Jorge everything just feels wrong, cause look at the current president’s associates who have gone to jail, it’s only been for a few months, or think about it in real life, a billionaire powerful man who works at a tech/communications company and spied on people, of course he would’ve powerful friends who would help him out of this situation, and billionaire men don’t get shanked in prison! And reading about the episode on wikipedia it says Laurel and Tegan planned it?? When did that happened? Tegan refused to help Laurel.
And I knew it on my heart not to get too excited about funeral Wes and sadly I was right, but can we imagine if Wes was never dead?? I know it’s a reach but if it was done right it would’ve been GENIUS, I’m thinking maybe Wes was tired from all this mess and never forgave Annalise for his mom, Sandrine knew Jorge asked Dominick to kill him -but I still think Jorge didn’t have a good reason, if he was worried about Laurel even Xavier admited they saw Frank as the bigger threat- so instead she intervened, planted a fake body and helped him hide and that night in the hotel (s4 finale) Wes showed up that’s were Laurel disappeared to (s5 finale) OR Wes was tired of everyone’s drama so he asked Silvia Mahoney to help him disappear and that’s why when A meets Silvia she says something like “there’s so much you don’t know” and he meets up w Laurel in the s5 finale OR it would’ve been ICONIC if Dominick killing Wes was a fake scene and what happened was that Laurel and Wes did meet at the house and Laurel told him she was pregnant but that it could be Frank’s so they had an argument and Laurel accidentally offed him and called D for help!
And can we talk about how ridiculous it is for Christopher to be Wes’ twin???
And a moment of silence for Frannie, I feel like Frank would’ve never be able to live with himself, And that was his way of fixing things so I get it, but Bonnie deserved better, yes she killed Rebecca and Miller -both of them were innocent and helpless- but I wanted for her to get a chance to be free and happy.
And a futuristic funeral??? :asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol:That was honestly the worst thing ever.:asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol: and doing old people make up NEVER works, maybe they could’ve tried casting similar looking older actors? Cause it looked ridiculous! And most of the time I hate it when there are open endings or not definite endings, but you know I think as long as Annalise was alive her life was not peaceful, she attracted trouble cause she had no morals and all she wanted was to win, so with an open ending I would’ve assumed she got another Frannie, another K5 and she continued being messy. So before seeing it was a futuristic funeral I thought she might have won her case but faked her death in order to get away from the mess and from herself! So again everything would’ve been better than a year 3000 funeral. But Eve’s eulogy was nice, especially that part about forgiving Annalise for making it hard to love her. And also I don’t think A would’ve ended w Tegan, T was too good for her, but I’m glad is stated that A was finally at peace and accepted herself.
AND I STILL HAVE THE SAME QUESTIONS: WHO ORDERED DOMINICK TO KILL WES, JORGE OR SANDRINE? WHAT HAPPENED TO SANDRINE??? Like did Jorge just casually scalped her?? WHAT WAS THE DEAL WITH THE MAHONEYS? they made it seem like there was more to explore AND WHAT WAS THE DEAL WITH THE GOVERNOR??? She really did all this??? She was the great villain but she only got like 3 scenes. AND WHAT I WILL NEVER FORGIVE THEM FOR: :asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol:no one person alive knew what actually went down with all these murders:asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol: I really wanted for Gabriel to know at least the truth about Sam.
Now the things I liked:
Frank looking out for his half brother! At least Gabriel ended up with 87k from Frank and 64k from Asher!
Nate and Annalise’s goodbye scene was perfect!
And at the end, Laurel ended up being the most loyal! Everyone always assumed the worst of her but even having the most to lose -Christopher- she always stood by Annalise! But I would’ve liked it if Laurel ended up being the one behind everything! Manipulating her brother into working with the governor, killing her mom, etc, we deserved a genius evil villain, but I accept loyal good friend Laurel.
It was an amazing show, but it started more about CRIME, lies, passion, mystery and ended up being about “you hurt my feelings, you are a bully” but amazing show, THANK YOU FOR 5 YEARS, VIOLA YOU ARE AMAZING.
I hoped things would've been very different from what they was in this last episode. I really wanted to see the guvernor to fail in courtroom and get locked up. I think most of the audience have waited for that for a long time. But what we get in the end: lazy writing, as many of the important characters, like the guvernor, just dies or gets killed. Well yeah, that's one way to end the series. But I think this is one of the worst endings I've ever seen to a series. The series was very good in average, but the ending was garbage.
In the end, they get away with everything, so in that way the show is very true to its title
The closest thing to paying for their crimes is a character's death or murder
Even though I didn't like that they made Frank Sam's son, I absolutely loved the finale. It was so satisfying to see that Annalise finally got rid of those life sucking leaches and started to take care of herself for a change. There are only two things I would do differently, first I don't understand why would Eve deliver the eulogy, she's completely unimportant character, it should have been Tegan since she's the one Annalise spent her life with if I understood correctly... But she wasn't even at the funeral... Perhaps she died as well though it wasn't stated. Second, they should've casted a different actor for the role of Christopher, I mean no one looks that much like their father. It's obvious they did that just to make us think it's Wes. Apart from that, it was perfect finale. And Viola once again delivered Emmy worthy performance, her closing words at the trial gave me goosebumps, what a way to say goodbye to her character.
Farewell HTGAWM!
I am conflicted. This finale reminded me of Scandal. Both shows should have ended a couple seasons before, because absolutely no twist was surpising anymore. So goes life in Shondaland, I assume.
The first season of the show, and even the second one, were amazing. It's sad to see how a show with such a great potential became so disappointing. On the other end, I must say that Connor and Oliver might be one of the rare interesting LGBTQ couples on TV, evolving from being a basic stereotype to something meaninful and even inspiring. That is the key element of a Shonda show: secondary characters can be hidden treasures and steal the show. Maybe we could expect a spin-off in a few years? I'd be totally on board.
Also. For all TV show producers out there: please, please trop the "19 years later" scenes. It worked brilliantly in Six Feet Under. It stopped working since then. By the way, for everyone saying that HTGAWM has the best series finale in History, I kindly invite you to (re)watch this gem.
Hated the fast forward. It's been done to death. The TV make up never works. Other than that it was an OK finale. Not bad, not great.

Viola Davis is a national treasure. That final argument! Thank you, Shonda. It was a wild ride with a few bumps at the end, but... Bye bye.
