Overall very enjoyable, intriguing, convincing acting, dense plots and a lot of well developed characters.
BUT the flashforwards used to foreshadow and/or justify certain plot progressions are frigging annoying as is the behaviour of the people involved in those flashforwards, at least of the crazy guy and the panicking woman. I wanna punch both of them so hard in the face when I see them.
I tend to fast forward those scenes as they add nothing that I am interested in or can't already combine on my own from context for the most part.
Additionally, I am all for (real, two-way) equality, but the homosexual sex scenes feel like they are shoved down my throat despite not being too explicit. Especially considering we're only seeing gay sex, not lesbian sex. Why is that?
Maybe because gay sex is more controversial than lesbian sex? Because you can provoke the audience better with it?
It wouldn't be such a problem for me if it wouldn't feel like a deliberate attempt of showing homosexual sex only because it is useful for the plot (bc it is; the romance with the hacker is barely that than it is beneficial for the law student) and you can provoke the audience with it.
That's just cheap and in my eyes almost the opposite of equality.
This way it's not portrayed as "normal" but rather exploited. You can expect better from Shonda than that.
Nevertheless, I am looking forward, how this is gonna turn out.
Why does a law professor also run a high stakes law firm, expecting her entry level students to do all the leg work of a field they know nothing about?
Imagine walking into your first science class, only to have the teacher yell at you for not knowing advanced quantum mechanics already, then failing you if you don't cure cancer.
Season one was SO good but honestly it went downhill pretty fast after that.
Just one of those shows that really turned me off, at some point I really didn't like the characters even though I felt invested in it, it just really turned me off.
I can't handle this anymore
I got up to S02E12 and its just... bleugh
I find myself checking Twitter more than watching this
I wanted to like the show because it had an interesting premise and there a so many positive reviews, but I just couldn’t.
First off, nobody in the cast is likable except the main black student played by Alfred Enoch, who I really thought was interesting. I wouldn’t work for that lady (played by Viola Davis) if she was the last person on earth, all the students except for one are unethical and sometimes immoral. Honestly, though, what really turned me off was the constantly aggressive gay sex scenes in literally every episode (and, by the way, zero straight sex scenes) that served no purpose and were over the top and often were precursors to unethical data farming, some on the verge of (or perhaps even) illegal. I have nothing against same sex relationships but it really is over the top and when I read the shows creators responses to anyone who dared say that they were a bit much ended it for me, she is a vapid twat.
I didn't think I'd like this show this much at first, but now , the only thing I can say about it it's that it was an incredible show. In addition to the story, topics such as racism, the good representation of the LGBT community, the inspirational strong women we can see on the screen are just important things that really deserves to be seen on TV more often. It's a good show that deserves to be watched.
if you dont like the show, then stop watching.
a) I did. Ages ago.
b) you have to watch something to know whether or not you like it
c) "if you don't like my comments, then stop reading"
d) it's called criticism and totally valid to say, even if you have issues with criticism of a show you like, because you project that criticism on yourself
e) if you can't see anything wrong with this show, good for you
no one wants a homophobic asshole watching the show, believe me.
a) why should I believe you, you are a stranger starting directly with ad hominems and you are - sorry to say - no authority to say who wants what, or what person to declare an "asshole"
b) educate yourself what "homophobic" actually means and realize, in the context of my criticism here and in several episodes, that it's not applicable towards me. But for that you might need to fully understand what I say instead of getting riled up over a comment you don't like, on a show you enjoy so much that you'd ignore all the issues it has. If you call it equality and not the exact opposite how this show uses male homosexuality to provoke then I can't help you, you are a part of the issue this show has.
c) nice ad hominem, thanks for making another great example why trakt needs moderators to take away the ability to comment for some people.
and peter nowalk writes the show, not shonda. get educated before you speak
I don't care who writes the show on a regular basis, nor did I say here Shonda Rhimes is writing it, didn't I? Shonda Rhimes' company produces it and if you think she has no influence on this show at all you're incredibly naive.
Get educated, hm? I like the irony in that.
Thanks for the chuckle, but go back under the bridge you came from. :D
Vulgar, stupid and just terribly uninteresting.
Eh. . I feel empty now, after finishing these series. . It was really great tv show, soo much intrigue, soo much suspence. . Even gays arent annoying in these series. Recommended.
This show should be called "How to get away with lies"
Absolutely love it. The suspense drives me mad every week and i can’t get enough. Good job Shonda
This show is superb.... there are so many twists it hurts the brain!! If you enjoy mind-numbing CSI shows then you'll hate this cause they don't explain everything for those of you minus a brain. Way too much gayness though - kinda ruins it... we get it - there's gay people in the world.. just not 95% of the population.
Great season finale cant wait dgjgjfhfhdhdhdhhdhfjfjfjffjfjfjrjrjrjrjrjfjfbfjruŕuru
Amazing, each season gets better and better.
Amazing, each series gets better and better.
There´s no one to rot for, i need to like at least one character to enjoy a show and i just don´t like any of them. also the idea of a layers having little kids behind her in crime scenes and etc seems a bit pathetic. messy plot cheesy and unlikable characters its a no no .
I love the way this show is set out switching from past to current events keeping the audience guessing as more and more information unfolds!
finally something refreshing on tv! this show's the best new thing since Orange is The New Black.
Absolutely brilliant till the end
oh, how i missed this show. thank god it's back!
A friend recommended the show to me and I have to say that Viola Davis is doing an excellent job. Also the idea behind the show is great and quite entertaining. Unfortunately it's sometimes too paced because of techno beats in the background and the hasty time jumps and cuts. No doubt they're meant as a stylistic device somehow but they actually feel unnecessary. The same applies to the repetition of the scene in the forest. It would have been sufficient to show it every three episodes and add larger chunks of information each time instead of showing almost the same thing over and over again in each episode.
Of course it is my personal taste, but the only characters I like are Annalise and Wes, the rest is simply annoying, stupid or mean and ambidextrous and therefore obnoxious. It's also of no relevance to the plot that everyone screws everyone. Affairs do happen and people have private lives including sexual relationships but does really every intercourse have to be shown? Is it that interesting to watch people having sex all the time?
What worries me most though is the portrayal of (bi- and) homosexuality on the show. The gay main character is a prostitute who gets paid with intel and of course the gay couple has to test for STDs and other diseases. Bisexuality is portrayed as a commonly rejected perversion. This is problematic because such a point of view polarizes and creates stereotyped thinking that discriminates.
In conlusion: Nice idea and talented individuals but a poor realization all in all.
well thought out and mature plot which was brilliantly excuted wouldn't expect less from Shonda Rhimes
I loved the air of mystery and thrill engulfing the show.. It plays on the angel that you never really know anyone and at the end of the day all of us are capable of doing horrific things if we thought that we might get away with it.
I could not stop watching the show once I started, The episodes have a common story line that continues through out the show in addition to the individal cases that Keating picks up on an episode by episode basis, making you literary unable to stop watching..
Mid-season I ws having my doubts, but the ending(01x09) was terrific! I really enjoy it. It's one of those shows that makes you emotional, absolutely fantastic!
This show has grown on me now I'm loving how the storylines keep unfolding so many twists and surprises so suspenseful and intriguing not a fan of the whole young team i hate laurel she's annoying and wes is bugging me but you know what? i don't care because Viola is killing it with all her powerful presence she's making this show THE SHOW her character is so effortlessly fearless Olivia Pope meets Alicia the good wife; a brilliant fixer,so independent,so powerful, inwardly sensitive
and humane and so freaking smart she represents every quality a women wants to be and thats what makes this show so watchable for me. keep it up
How is it possible this show dragged on for 6 Seasons
they all behaving like a criminal organisation and the prosecutors are all idiots.
It's a big criminal gang
Shonda Rhimes is a genius & I will NEVER go against my queen, Annalise Keating

WOW...this is one of the nicest shows i have ever seen! Good drama!!
Absolutely in love with this show. Now that it has ended, I can feel a hole in my heart. The smart plotlines, both the underlying and the main ones, the outstanding performances by every cast member, the powerful messages, the brilliant cinematography, the dark and heavy aura growing more and more with each season, all these make this show truly unforgettable.
Well people "How to Get Away with Murder" is a great series worth your time. Don't hesitate, watch it!
Soapy goodness that is admirable when it tries to reach beyond itself with social issues even when it fails, and is anchored and elevated by Viola Davis giving way more than she had to.
I have watched this show start to finish and it is truly one of the best mind-blowing, ground-breaking shows out there so far. Viola Davis is a stellar actress who delivers every time. The show only gets better and the twists keep coming. Fantastic cast and an equally fantastic way of storytelling. Trust me; watch this!
Gave up on the second season.... I tried but I wasn't simply interested. One of reasons I belive was before watching this show, I watched Killing Eve which was fenomenal! So watching something so great and captivating and then this... Was hard to watch!
The concept it's interesting and it has a good story.
But the cases that they deal with in each episode are often stupid or they just appear out of the sudden with few details.... The focus is normally the same, the search for details to support the client and the court. And I get that it's the focus of the show but for me it's poorly done.
Also too many flashbacks... The need to shows us something in the future to keep us hooked, it got old. Shondaland is overrated for sure, I expected more from this.
This show, to me, is terrible. The characters are mostly extremely unlikable and in its third season, kills off its most likable one, which isn`t that much likable either. Of course, not all entertainment needs to have a likable character, but the unlikable character usually comes with a message, they are used to convey a message or they use that unlikability to further develop in latter seasons. But in HGAWM, if there is a message, in buried deep in its need to keep escalating the drama in mostly annoying ways.
Season 1 starts with a somewhat understandable drama. A girl is dead, she used to sleep with her college teacher, which coincidentally is the MC s husband, the big shot professor-lawyer that has her favorites based on the hand full of students that compete hard enough. The competitiveness is incredibly annoying to say the least, while It does show some characteristics of each character, it serves to send a message "Look, to be a big shot lawyer you need to be a backstabber" which is, as far as I know, far from the truth, at least in Brazil. Only in Murica, the idea of extreme competitiveness is that appealing, not to say it is just Murica.
Wes Gibbins, one of the MC s fave students start a "friendship" with his neighbor, a girl that was the dealer of the dead girl. She goes to the MC s home to accuse the MC s husband of murdering the dead girl because she was pregnant, he they starts to get hostile, Wes and the rest of the students get their and see him getting violent. What happens? Wes kills the MC s husband, she finds out and… covers for them because he was a cheating bastard. I mean, ok, but seriously, this is the plot here. The second and third season is awful too, they turn the drama way to the top, but what should I expect of Shonda Rhimes style of story telling if not one big pile of drama that keeps getting bigger and bigger. Not drama enough? How about a gunmen get into the hospital and shoot the MC s husband (Im talking about Grey
s Anatomy). Not drama enough? Let`s make a bunch of doctors crash in a helicopter and have some of them die or extremely hurt. But the difference here is: the characters of Grey's Anatomy are mostly all likable. I mean, George O'Malley, so likable, even the bully gets a redemption story, he starts studying to be a pediatrician, that is a nice twist to the cliched alpha child. But I can state without guilt that HGAWM accomplishes the opposite of Grey's Anatomy.
It's hands down one of my favourite series! All the actors are excellent, Viola just stealing the whole show as she does with everything she's invested in. The plot is fucking with your head, seems like it's changing episode by episode! Can't get enough of it!
Very juicy. Completely over the top, but Viola Davis can make any movie rise to the occasion.
She's a hot mess. Sexy, beautiful, vulnerable, tough, brilliant, smart, manipulative, and lying her ass off.
Everyone on this show has a messy background and a psyche to match.
Everyone looks everyone else in the eye and lies through their teeth, while asking everyone else to tell them the truth.
This show should be subtitled, How To Get Away With Lying Every Chance You Get, While Humping Anything That Moves Breathes, or Is Not Nailed Down!
I starter my college because of this serie
The first season is bloody fantastic. Unfortunately the same can not be said about the second.
is this show worth watching?
Started watching this during season break of regular show and it kind of grew on us. Does get a little complicated later on in regards to where its focusing but overall not bad. S1 is the best IMO.
Hey I Love shows like this and it's very informative about the law innocet or guilty! I have just one other question can anybody help me connect my Netflix account to my Trakt account? Any information would be greatly appriciated and Thank You!
i start thinking Shonda Rhimes is a little bit overestimated...
Best show in a long time!
oh my god. this is just amazing, so good. serious, i never thought i would be so addicted to this, but damn... it gets better every episode
The 9th episode was the best of the last the start was OK

Favorite new days TV show.
I'm enjoying the show, great cast!
I like this show better than Scandal.
O_O SHE KNOWS!!!
O_O HE KNOWS!!!
just finished watching the first ep. and it was intersting ,,, think am gonna stick with it for the time being!
That ending was so Dangerous Liaisons. One of my favorite dramatic scenes...the wiping of the make up. Stripping away the layers.
I absolutaley love this show.
Great characters, interesting and refreshing plot.
Good fun with a few interesting caracters.
Changed my rating from 7 to 9- this show is simply fun. ^ ^
Loved the pilot! Great cast!
Viola Davis is amazing and
Jack Falahee is an early favorite. It's now at the top of my "Can't Miss" list.
Brilliant first episode! Really hope it keeps up.

Admittedly there's not a lot to like about any of the characters except the main one. She's tough, hardened and trying y to do right by everyone which is how the whole thing goes south for her. A defense attorney is supposed to protect their clients innocent or guilty, so I think a lot of the bad reviews forget that.
But this is really about everyone makes bad decisions at one point or another. Do we hold someone accountable? Do they hold themselves? There's a consistent theme here and it's about good people do bad things and bad people often convince themselves they're good by being bad.
There's also a lot about how vindictive we can be as a society to the way we treat strong, straight up people and how easily we turn on the people who are the most honest with us and the ones that are most protective of us.
It ends with vindication (ironic how ation v ive changes a meaning so drastically). I think that's what bounces the show from an 8 to a 10. There's something cleansing about the ending being fair in a world we know often is not.
