I actually quite liked this, I'm a huge fan of the adventure archaeologist trope so when I first heard about this show I made a little note to keep an eye on it - plus I was a fan of Ophelia while she was in Elementary. I loved the shout-out to Howard Carter, David Livingstone, and Mary Kingsley, and that it shone a light on the work Percy Fawcett did and was doing when he disappeared.
The writing, however, was a little lack luster in some places with some parts of the episode making little sense - why was the woman from the museum so distressed at Alex being missing? Is she just a worried colleague, a friend...? The CGI was about what I expected to see from the budget a television show is usually given, although in some places I was actually cringing because of it. Given that the show is filmed on location and it was probably the best they could afford I'm willing to overlook it. The 'tribal stuff' was a little racist - going to try to call it as I see it.
I already like Alex a lot but honey, ripping Percy's arm off - even though it was totally an accident - was desecration at its finest. Not too sure about Hooten, it might take a few episodes for me to warm up to him - though I did rather enjoy when she kicked him in the jaw when they were falling down the cliff so maybe I just don't like him.
