Why are they rushing things!

I guessed that Lyra was Mrs. Coulter's daughter during the last episode, they looked so much alike that they couldn't have been unrelated to each other. I don't understand why she is so cruel to her daughter, she is a villain but even these have some maternal love for their kids (I am looking at you Cersei).

I don't know any hoodlum kid who'd so quickly and uselessly sacrifice themselves for no reason. If hurting the daemons hurts the person, he could've ran the other way towards her monkey and snap it instead, or even throw it out the window.

But I guess they did that for the hint (or reveal) that daemons seem to turn into "dust" when their human dies, so we'll see what that leads to
