Hijack 2023

Its a great watch pretty good research from the flying aspect. Its unusual to see a plot of British individuals being involved in this sort of crime? Not known of in actuality?

Great start looking forward to more twists and turns.

[tv+] Based on a plot that asks the viewer for a certain generosity to follow the narrative without too many questions, it is built as a tension timer that rises at times with particular success. It works better on air than in the sequences and thriller that takes place on the ground, but it knows how to maintain the suspense throughout seven episodes. There are some pitfalls, such as the real-time action that makes it similar to "24" (2001-2010), and certain imbalances, but it works adequately as an entertainment that forgets about character development to create a good roller coaster.

Idris Elba on a hijacked plane? I’m in! Also, the plot twist: he is not a superhero, not a secret agent, not a soldier, not a cop, not even a boxer, a martial arts expert, someone who learned how to fight at the school of hard knocks. But he does have a superpower: the art of negotiation. And he will use it to defeat (?) the terrorists. Hijack doesn’t have high TV drama ambitions and it’s not a masterpiece, but it’s got tempo, thrills, fun, all the stuff you want from something like this. It kinda reminded me of 24, not in terms of structure, clearly not because of the main character, but in its general vibe.

IMO this is a binge worthy series. But is it good? That is up for you to decide.

I actually enjoyed watching this. This is a decent mini web series. The buildup of tension and the cliff hangers at the end of each episode are really good. As I watched this, I could actually feel the anxiety and the tension.

I also loved the cinematography, the visuals and overall the color of the video. The locations and the lighting are also pretty cool. It is wonderful to watch on a big TV.

I read some other reviews of this and noticed that many people don't like the craziness of the series. They also mentioned of the several plot-holes in this. But I don't really care about all these criticisms.

Aside from the plot-holes and the technicality, this is actually a decent thriller mini series.

:heart:x7
This is a very different kind of Hijack movie. There is no big Action Hero to come to the rescue here - instead, a negotiator/closer comes in and seals the deal. That alone makes it worth watching. Are there problems with the movie - of course. But you don't watch movies for believability and accuracy now - do you?

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

That was one wild ride! I think this might be the best thriller I’ve ever seen. Incredible cast, in many key roles giving spectacular performances, led by Idris Elba. Lots of character development with hardly any minor roles. Each character having a crucial role in the drama. Nail biting, edge of the seat drama. I give this limited series a 10 (fantastic thrills) out of 10. [Dramatic Thriller]

This TV series masterfully combines suspense, intricate plot twists, and compelling characters, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats with every episode. A must-watch for anyone who enjoys intense thrillers! Good job guys.

10/10.
One of the best TV series of 2023

A very solid start for this thriller. A good cast and what appears to be an interesting story.

So far the plot is still up for grabs, but the first two episodes made wanting for more and having a lot of questions, which for me is what I like on a good thriller. Needless to say having Idris Elba is a +.

If you like thrillers, give this a go and ignore the low rate it was because had more than 18 votes of 1* months before airing.

A giant turd of a show. The story is... a complete shitshow. For reference, I managed to watch 4 episodes. The only interest of the makers is to put as much tension and action scenes into this to make it somewhat watchable. Which it isn't. The one redeeming value being the lead role of Idris Elba. But he can't save this show on his own. I found myself wondering why I'm watching this pulp.

Contrived plot points left and right. Questionable tension based on flimsy storylines. Irrational actions by people. It's hardly believable as a whole. The people in this show are as interesting as a cardboard cutout. There's of course the mandatory Karen-type with a child on board. Annoying and frustrating beyond words. Then there's Sporty Spice with a gun in her hand trying to look tough. etc. You'll find out yourself.

Even though I was somewhat interested to find out what is the motive of the hijackers, the show is making it a real chore to want to find out. I'll be "unwatching" this show and not returning to it. You can have your cheap entertainment.

When you look at the plot you think that it'll be pretty boring but it's actually quite captivating! The acting is good, the plot is much better than you think and Idris Elba, I mean you can't do a lot wrong when it comes to his acting.

UPDATE: After watching all the episodes I would say it's a decent one-time watch but I don't see myself ever wanting to revisit this again. What captivates you is the way in how everyone does "their thing" but that's only good one time, after that there's nothing more to surprise you.

I still feel the acting is well done but it does get a bit predictable and unbelievable the further into the show you get.

When you have what should at most be a 2 hour movie stretched out to a 7 hour series it's bound to fall apart in places. It's watchable and at times even tense but those moments are padded out with way too much filler, so much so that it's hard to keep motivated. The plot, in terms of the hijackers etc, requires a MASSIVE suspension of belief and lacks any credibility whatsoever. Idris Elba plays his role well, at least for the script he has to work wit, but the rest of the characters are pretty one dimensional (with a bunch of pretty obvious stereotypes to boot) and a pretty limp script, the ground part of the story is as dull as dishwater with all the characters being played by what looks like out of work extras. I'm up to Ep 5 now and will be glad when it ends, hopefully not with a cliffhanger for a season 2 as that would be a definite nope.

Great first two episodes, looking forward to seeing how this develops

Very good series! It keep the suspense on until the very end. Idris is perfect as usual. One of the best Apple TV+ series!

loading replies

People here and on imdb seem very easily to be pleased. It's a 6, and I'm generous here.

loading replies

A thriller miniseries with Elba? I am in! It was a decent series, well acted and produced, but it would have been better as a 2 hour film. It is clearly a trend for streaming services to milk anything into a miniseries, to keep you invested for 5-6 hours.

loading replies

Has been renewed with season 2.

loading replies

Well one liner description of protagonist and show name gives it all away. nothing as thriller or unexpected point comes up in whole 7 episodes. pretty much standard hijacking and hero comes up to rescue without action that's all need to know

loading replies

well, that was a disappointment :disappointed:
in the early episodes, while you don't know the Why, the show is great, it has some excellent episodes and great tension.
then by the end, everything crumble as you discover the reason behind all of it. and the final showdown with Edris and the "villain"..... nothing could have screamed more as FORCED than that scene. they really missed the landing and ruined something that had Potential.

Exigeye SUSPENSE, APLOT AND MURDER series.

This no doubt was a badly written, acted, directed and casted show. Would not recommend. UNPOPULAR OPINION: but the ultimate miscast here was Idris Elba.

loading replies

Really fun and smart show. Idris Elba is great and I love how he basically is Luther in this show being super smart. I get how there can be some unrealistic things but it's not enough to make it bad imo. I like how there were not many filler episodes, each one was pretty tense.

Got me glued in from the first episode, ended up watching the whole season. Good Triller.

loading replies

had more holes than a colander but it was enjoyable enough

loading replies

Not bad series, few minor plot holes but overall good. Great intensity ans suspense near the end. I guess it's one of those scripts that they originally wanted to do a movie about it, but nowadays they can get away with a mini-series, which is great. Would recommend!

loading replies

I LOVED IT! There were only a few things I didn't like: Chick could have easily avoided killing the pilot (she could have just gone past him), and they never managed to apprehend the remaining assault masterminds. She needs to be imprisoned.

loading replies

As usual Idris Elba is was impeccable in this show. Hijack keeps you on edge, a hell of tense thriller that is very well thought out. Do not miss it, it is only 7 episodes but damn good.

7 hours of flight and 7 hours thrilling ride for the viewers but there are lot of issues with the screenplay and protocol dictated by the airlines staff , ATC and the Number 10 ; which is unbecoming of a major crisis From random passengers carrying scissors in their luggage , to the guns smuggled , the jets backing away and not maintaining visual contact even if not engaging them and how the suspects get away with it all in the end

loading replies

Some episodes kept me at the edge of the sofa..

loading replies

8/10 pretty damn good
The first two episodes are great, after that you have to ignore some of the blatant liberties taking to push the story along….
But it still doesn’t take away from what a great show and storyline this is, the last episode has you on the edge of your seat and leaves you with the feeling that it was just about right…..
Just all things that had to come together to make this work are almost impossible, it just isn’t feasible to get that all done and coincide together!
But, it still works as long as you can ignore all that…..

loading replies

Really enjoyed it. Idris awesome as ever

loading replies

I like the cast and I liked the first episode but it seems like the plot is difficult to drag out a full season.

loading replies

very suspens-y right from the outset. Waiting on the final episode

loading replies

This plot would have worked for a 2 hour movie. However, the show is asking the viewers to care about 1-dimensional characters. Wait until you discover the so-called motivation of the hijackers. Put this one on the back burner as there are far better options out there.

loading replies

Interesting plot, but a very "slow burn" show. It could be a great deal more interesting if the pace were somewhat faster. I understand that attention to detail if a major reason for it. But I believe it may have gone too far. the Pace will chase away viewers. I am on the fence of giving it up.

loading replies

The first 2 episodes are good. It mostly sets up the plot for now but engaged enough to watch how it goes.

Curious how it will proceed but watching the first episode already required me to suspend my disbelief quite a few times.

The ambiguous wording of "incident" by Idris' character and the flight crew, not squawking 7500 and ATC immediately giving up after they get told the incident is solved is especially heinous. The captain choosing to open the door for no logical reason I'm expecting to be explained but jesus christ
edit: it did not get explained beyond the fact that the captain was having an affair with the flight attendant or some shit lmao. garbage show with garbage writing

loading replies

Enjoyed it but has many plot holes. Only watching because all my other shows are on breaks right now.

Once again Apple made this an advertisement for their products, but this time they doubled down on it and it makes you feel as if the story is completely unbelievable. It takes you away from the storyline and it doesn't come back after they pulled another feel based on their products. This time it was too obvious and came with massive GM Transformer vibes. When love is shown, it is always through the use of their devices, when you need to feel relieved or sympathise with a character or situation, out come their phones again, when all communications on board die, you guessed it, their phones are the solution to warn the people on the ground. It fucks up their shows beyond what is comfortable and at those times your mind just zones out of the story to never return again. It is one of the biggest reasons I didn't sign up for their streaming platform, as I somehow saw this coming from afar.

loading replies

It was like it was written by an AI. You saw every “turn” from a kilometer. There is nothing new in it. The actions of the characters are full stupid, the long waitings before speaking are hilariously try to create tension. Oh, it’s just so bad and empty.

There is literally not a slightest connection with reality, not in terms of physics but in aviation processes. I read some people commenting "pretty good research from the flying aspect". hahahahahahaha.
The show is bad in terms of script. The only good part is the part around the motives of the hijackers. All the rest is absolute shit. Maybe Apple should stick with scifi because this is probably the worst aviation related content I've ever watched.
Most amazing part is after the crash landing, engines and wheels fly off left and right with explosions and the plane stops sitting upright. Okay.... Then, the cabin has smoke, everyone is chilling, the truck with the staircase comes along, connects with the plane and the flight crew, opens the door ready todo a normal deboarding. hahahahahaa. And the other guys wrote "pretty good research from the flying aspect". I think the comments here are more entertaining that the wasted 7 hours.

Rated 5/10. Its great potential was squandered. All the idiotic things the characters did were too on the nose. And as if that wasn’t enough, they needed to end it like THAT.

loading replies

Started great but fell off a little in the middle then picked up again in the final episode. Overall a decent watch that will keep you intrigued enough to find out if the plane lands or not.

loading replies

Starts really well, but beware of the shitty ending.

loading replies

Absolute cringe-fest of silly dialogue, technically wildly inaccurate, unrealistic human behaviour and extremely unlikable characters.
