...it might be just me, because I do not even use sunscreens because of how much I hate the feeling of those squishy mushy slippery blobs...but this episode was the creepiest ever!
"What the fuck Stace?? ... is it bad?"
"yeah, it's pretty bad, honey."
"Hon, this is... this is real bad."
This one goes hard on the messaging about beauty standards and trying to fit in. Lots of body horror and awkward cringe moments. Those rashes looked pretty itchy and the goo monster was cool. The thematics work great with Christmas that was a good choice. Dan Stevens' accent was hilarious I would definitely buy anything he sells. Kate Micucci's a new face for me she was great.
im sorry but if dan stevens talked to me through the tv i would simply do as he says
I'm pretty sure I'm getting a nightmare tonight.
Poor Keith, he was being supportive in all the wrong ways :flushed:
Finally, someone took full advantage of the fact that Kate Micucci is simultaneously really odd looking and really sexy.
Ai yi yi.... I'm loving the Cabinet of Curiosities show as a whole but this particular episode was at least TWICE as long as it needed to be. I mean, you knew what was coming; you just didn't know when. And they drug this out farrrrrrrrrrrrr too long. This was a "short story" that could've been done in about 10 minutes…not the full hour they took to string it together.
Weird, but not in a good way.
Wtf was this sh|tshow! Rubish!
This story about a skincare product from hell didn't resonate with me at all. None of the characters work. Everyone is unsympathetic. The protagonist Stacey, played by Kate Micucci, is also a complete moron. To make matters worse, Dan Stevens, who appears in a supporting role, chose to speak with a very questionable accent. It is just too weird. The Christmas setting also doesn't help to create a horror atmosphere. "The Outside" is just plain boring. And, at over an hour, it's unnecessarily one of the longest episodes in the series.
i really really liked this episode. it's the least "creepy" of the series, but probably one of my favorites. i found it very sad and compelling
Should have been at least twenty minutes shorter. I liked the weird camera angles and lens choices when shooting the conversations between the women. The message felt a little on the nose, but at least things didn't play out as they would usually do in this kind of product.
I wonder what the reasoning behind not letting the viewer know that you made a significant leap in time is.
This episode had more Dutch angles than a geometry textbook from the Netherlands.
Jesus, yet another trash discreetly pushing "the message".
The people in this episode live in alternate universe.
The gal says : you're a man, everybody likes you no matter what"
That might have been true 200 years ago, but definitely not now.
I'd really give it a 6.5, I liked it but my partner didn't. I can see why as the pacing is a bit crap and the writing a bit cheesy, but I found myself still thoroughly enjoying the deeply strange ending.
That was strange yet different. But, over long.
pure shit, i really regret that i started watching this show
This episode was waaaaay too slow.
Why am I convinced this was great, when I am so not there emotionally?
Well done...great creature effects, great transformation (and I mean what she looked and acted like for most of the show -- just a stunning difference from how we normally see her), and...and I am creep-ed the f*ck out!
That was pretty disappointing. It's not a novel subject, nor a novel treatment of it. You think there will be an interesting development or twist at some point... there's none.
Absolutely nothing except the most obvious happens. Actually, there are more obvious things that do not even happen than those who do. Problem is, the things that you expect and do not happen are just replaced with... nothing. Makes the whole experience feel extremely long.
You keep trying to guess where it's going, but there is just nothing.
She's a bit red. She has a rash. And a bit more. And a bit more. Oh, maybe slightly more ? Not sure.
Will she start tearing off her skin ? Nope.
The Alo Glo seemingly having a life of its own is nice.
Will it burn a hole in the table ? Nope.
Will it escape and run around in the house ? Nope.
Is it aliens/demons/monsters/another form of life replacing people ? Nope.
Is it a big pharma conspiracy ? Nope.
The one most expected thing not to happen was that when she was invited at the party, it was not a mistake, nor did they invite her to mock her, she got an expensive present like the others and they even nicely handled her weird present. Which in itself made absolutely no sense. Why would this happen when they've been ignoring her for years ?
Unless the goal was just to spread the product BUT
1) it didn't seem to have more effect on the others
2) it doesn't look like Gina had been changed by the Alo Glo at all either
3) there seem to be no weird de
Since there are no underlying motive behind it at the end, it's just weird.
So what happened in the end ? Was she just crazy the whole time. Was it all hallucinations caused by her allergy and she actually never left the house ? Did the lube mannequin actually appeared or was it all in her head ? We don't really know, but we don't really care either. None of the options are really appealing, they're all less interesting than dozen of alternatives you can think of during the episode, and the not even picking one just makes it worse.
Criiiiiinge
What did I just see?
This was so awkward!
I felt very uncomfortable. I assume that was the aim.
This made me so very sad, I don't know how else to describe it.
The worst episode so far.
This is absolute nightmare fuel!
Weakest among the ones I've watched so far. The way they eat those wings is so gross.
[Netflix] With fidelity to the webcomic "Some other animal's meat" (2016) in which Emily Carroll twists a conventional idea, this adaptation has a bloodier touch. But the direction resources are monotonous (the fisheye lens to deform the fake perfection of reality), and they transmit the restlessness so unsuccessfully that it has to lead to the bloody to show the disturbing dysmorphia of the protagonist.
God, I am so fucking sick of the horror take on 'beauty = confidence' and the 'She's All That' trope. Especially with this one episode actually having decent source material in the web comic. The adaptation is shameful. Where is the deeply ingrained body dysmorphia, where is the body horror, where is the feeling of misplaced identity? Awful.
The only thing this episode does for you is make you itch!
I don't know what to say about this episode.....
Lots to look at, but the story is incoherent, and I'm a story person. No fear, no horror, just a bit of sympathetic itching and a fairly certain sense of where you're going.

I really liked Stacey and Keith as what appeared to be a happy couple living an unorthodox but contented life. Later, one of the characters disappointed me. Dan Stevens is eerily funny as the "Alo Glo Man". And that closing minute when Stacey stares into the camera, continually breaking the fourth wall, was inspired and unnerving.
