Forest Whitaker deserves an award for this series. Best series on TV.
I don't know how "historically correct" this series is but, it's must see tv! A GREAT cast! It's one of the few shows that always leaves me craving the next episode!
Reasonable gangster show about somebody who doesn't actually seem to be very good at being a gangster.
What an incredible show this is, one of the best tv shows out there. Forest Whitaker plays so well in this.
OMG!! Nigel looks sooooooooo much like Malcolm X it's frightening!! Down to his lip line!!! :flushed: He got his mannerisms down packed!! It was as the he was somehow resurrected via witchcraft or something..... :flushed:

A must-watch for fans, supporters, and admirers of Malcolm X. If you’re a Muslim and/or a communist, this is required watch material for your understanding/analysis of Islam and race relations in the imperial core.
6/10. Not a terrible show, felt like a career piece for Whitaker rather than a full fledged show. Also, I think the writers expected a greenlight for season 4, but didn't end up happening, so they just quickly concluded the show in season 3.
Malcom X sidestory kills the show imo.
Love this show! Both Chin and Bumpy are awesome and really carry the series. Just finished seasoned 2. Hoping that season 3 is in line with the first two. If you like crime, drug and maffia related stories, this is a must see imo.
So, I watched the first three episodes in one sitting and although it didn't blew me away I had the intention of watching some more. But the next day I asked myself: why ? Why do I want do continue ? Why do I want to know the story of these characters ? And quite frankly, I couldn't come up with an answer.
Now, the show isn't awful. It looks really good. Althought I was dissapointed and, to be honest, put off by the modern rap music. That doesn't fit at all, especially with so many great songs from the era. Guess it was a rights problem. Sadly it destroys the otherwise good 60's feeling. The cast is amazing and I can't find any flaws concerning acting. But the dialogue was oftentimes hard to understand. Too silent and muffled.
Maybe if it had been just a mini series I would have continued. But I have doubts with the way the show presents its story it can hold up for three seasons.
[Disney+] Relies on a group of actors (Whitaker/D'Onofrio/Thatch/Esposito) solving their character development issues, but wins in S2 by pushing the connection between 1960s racial strife and the plot of gangsters. The series benefits from context as a background that outlines a time when politics and the mafia were strongly connected. Which resolves any tendency to melodrama.
I wouldent be a fan of whitaker.never seen him in anything b4.but I got stuck into this show..right up my street.loads f gangster shit going on..defo recommend this 1 id watch this again no problem
I LOVE this show and re complete season. Especially having Giancarlo Esposito inthis show, made me remember his part in Lee's “Malcolm X“.
Looks promising. Hopefully not too many gratuitous liberties will be taken.

Do you know what. I love good gangster flicks. Gomorrah is one of my recent all time faves. I'm not going to say this beats that but it's really really good. At the pace it's building this is starting to look like it may get close to or even equal Gomorrah. I have to be careful though. This is more like the Goodfellas movie (that I loved!) than the raw Italian mafia living in council blocks (like Gomorrah). To even say Godfather of Harlem is in the same breath as Gomorrah is saying something. Not totally convinced yet but what I will say is this is great tv. Really good. If you like mafia stuff you really must check it out. Watched Peaky Blinders and enjoyed that? Then check it out. Anyway forgetting comparisons... this is proper enjoyable popcorn mafia tv with great actors and acting. I love it. Currently at a 9 but I may have to upgrade it to a 10 if it keeps on going the way it is going.
