I think while the pilot stuck very close to the original and only has small differences, it has potential.
Plus: I really love to see more of Rose McIver. I think she is just great!
the british version of this show is sooo much better. the characters and acting are far superior.
Started this because I wanted something fun and light, and while it's definitely annoying just how much is explained when it doesn't have to be, it's really great to see Rose McIver on screen again - she's absolutely brilliant in iZombie. Utkarsh ( who plays Jay ) feels a little rigid and mechanical in his acting, though almost like he's just saying his lines rather than acting them out.
So i tuned in because I keep reading great things about this and I loved the UK version. , I found this version just amusing but it hd a great cast so I will keep watching the rest of the season
Just watched episode 1 and had no idea it was a remake of a UK show to bias my viewing.
There was some charm to the show and although the writing was often poor, most of the performances were decent. It lacks and edge to it and they seem to have specifically kept it cleaner than the direction that the themes were moving. even when newest ghost with no pants raised his hands, not only did they pixelate his exposed crotch but he appeared to be wearing underwear (i didn’t bother to jump back and look more closely. The dandy ghost seems to be a closet homosexual and another vaguely expressed interest in watching the new couple have sex but the show will probably miss the more bawdy humour that could come from such ideas.
There are obvious flaws in the logic of how the ghosts are portrayed, their accents, costumes, knowledge of modern english type stuff but the the tone of the show is quite silly so you can forgive a lot of that so long as it’s making way for humour.
One obvious logic issue that could have been the source of humour is the race of the guy. While all the ghosts seem stuck in the moral and cultural ideas of when they died, none bat an eye at a mixed race couple. I think it’s good that they don’t dwell on it but some initial mention of it and maybe one or two ghosts being hung up on it for a little while would have seemed quite natural and been the source of both some amusing jokes and allowing them to find a reason to get over their bigotry (while still stuck on everything else from their time).
The 2 leads aren’t extraordinary but do a decent job and seem natural enough as a couple but hopefully their chemistry will improve as the series progresses. I’ll probably watch another episode or 2 to see how it goes. I tend to keep watching too many shows that aren’t great so i really need to make sure it’s worth while to dedicate hours to watching it all.
-“What could possibly be wrong with this house?” Um, land taxes maybe?
You know I HAVE always wondered what a ghost’s POV was when they’re haunting a place, and so far it’s pretty damn funny.
Watching the UK version first and then this one… I didn’t even laugh once during the whole episode. I surely hope it’s going to get better, but this pilot episode was pretty dull and the characters aren’t very good portrayed.
i fail to see what the need for this 2021 show was when it was already made in 2019 just english? why does the US always copy shows or movies i dont get it
I'm going to watch the next episode, this looks like it could be very entertaining even if limited to a closed set. Some of the best comedy shows have come from a studio setting.
So many cod jokes. But it is working somehow.
I went from thinking it was meh to it totally growing on me by the end. Rose Mciver (iZombie) is a delight.

I really can't speak for American comedy and what you guys find funny but I can't help but see a copy of a nuanced show that took away the subtlety and mansplained a show that really didn't need it. Especially when it comes to the gay captain. The stereotypes aren't funny to me and don't make sense if these characters are to represent the eras they come from. I'm going to watch it to see if it gets better and perhaps they might find their own way, but I'm sorry to say I'm not impressed so far.
