Remember that time when the Starks were, you know, happy? Sweet summer children...
Let's give it a try to this show
Of course there would be incest. May they all die a painful death as soon as possible. Disgusting.
After seeing this episode I already declared Game of Thrones my favorite series, it's a great episode and a great start to a very mysterious and beautiful show!
Sorry but those pups have been one of the best things on this episode ♥
Let me give you some advice, bastard. Never forget what you are, the rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor and it can never be used to hurt you.
As many times as I’ve seen this, I’m always impressed by how well it manages to establish the foundations of the world and its characters. It’s still a lot to wade through honestly, but “Winter is Coming” goes a long way towards solidifying the beginnings of what would transform into something absolutely spectacular.
Came to 'Game of Thrones' fairly late in the game and due to being so busy the binge-watching was gradual. Have found myself truly loving the show, very quickly becoming one of my favourites. It totally lives up to the hype and not only does it do the brilliant source material justice (a rarity in television) it is on its own merits one of the finest, most addictive and consistently compelling shows in recent years and quality-wise it puts a lot of films in recent years to shame.
"Winter is Coming" starts off 'Game of Thrones' absolutely brilliantly, couldn't change anything for the world. Not many shows have their overall quality, tones, themes and characterisations so spot on and well-established when it first starts, but 'Game of Thrones' is one of the strongest exceptions. It is an example to all first/final episodes of how to start off a show.
Visually, "Winter is Coming" looks amazing. The scenery is throughout spectacular, the sets are hugely atmospheric and beautiful on the eyes with a real meticulous eye for detail and the costumes suit the characters to a tee. The make-up is beautifully done. The visual effects are some of the best of any television programme and are not overused or abused, the scale, the detail and how they actually have character and soul are better than those in a lot of the big-budget blockbusters. As well the cinematography and editing, which are cinematic quality as well.
One cannot talk about "Winter is Coming" without mentioning the thematically, orchestrally and atmospherically multi-layered music scoring and the unforgettable main theme. Again, worthy of a high-budget fantasy/action/drama film.
It is hard not to be bowled over by the quality of the writing, outstanding isn't a strong enough adjective to describe how good the writing is. It always has a natural flow, is layered and thought-provoking and demonstrates a wide range of emotions such as suspenseful tension, poignant pathos and witty humour. The story is paced so beautifully, structured with such nuance and attention to coherence, a high emotional level and is done with intelligence and sensitivity.
Not only are the more action-oriented/more dramatic moments done with a lot epic scale, superb staging, excitement and dramatic tension but underneath all the scale and flashy attention to detail there is a lot of heart and a multi-layered one.
"Winter is Coming" is so early on and already the characters are so well developed and as close to real life as one can get despite being in a fantasy world. These characters are not hero and villain archetypes and have both strengths and flaws and one can understand why they act the way they do.
Sean Bean gives some of his best ever acting, as does Kit Harrington. Peter Dinklage has always been one of 'Game of Thrones's' greatest assets and that is totally the case here.
All in all, couldn't have started such a wonderful show so perfectly. 10/10.
Such an amazing premiere!
I like how the characters were introduced, and I already love the Starks!
The addition of the direwolves is also perfect!
so far, I am bored.
this serie is overrated, i mean, imdb says 9.5 with +1million users ratings combined all together, there is no way this can be 9.5/10 rated serie.
i swear, they are paid to vote or i dunno but it sucks! im on episode 6 yet it sucks of boredom and only incest parts sex etc are shown, Pure BS fuck this serie.
Viserys Targaryen: [to Daenerys] "I would let his whole tribe fuck you, all forty thousand men and their horses too, if that's what it took."

Okay, here is the story folks: I gave the first episode a shot - in fall 2013. Everyone was so into it, that i had to watch it.
I saw the first 5 Minutes and was like "this monster-story is that hyped? Really? Forget it.". But i have to admit: I watched the german dubbed version. It was not bad, but not good either. Anyway i did just watch the first 5 Minutes and that was it.
I forgot the show. One year later, 2014 i started to watch a youtube moive and tvshow reviewer. He and his wife reviewed every Episode beginning with the third Season. So I tried again. This time in english. And i got hooked.
You can see my rating up there. 7/10. I was not impressed, but i saw the potential of the drama. I sticked to it and, man, what a show. Fantasy is not my favorite, but this one hits the spot.
Great show with a slow start. If you are struggling, please: give it a chance!
Would rate higher if not for the beheadings and rape....
Reaaaally great show, just started watching it and I'm already hooked
Great intro to the GoT universe.
Love this amazing tv show.
Such an amazing tv show
I rated this higher than it really deserved. I had no idea who anyone was or what they were after. I think that they did a terrible job of introducing many of the characters, and in an ensemble cast this large, you really have to nail that above all else.
This is how you make a pilot, my God, what a beauty. Setting, world building, rhythm and characters, each with their dynamics, roles, relationships and conflicts, in addition to all being interrelated with each other. All of this in a single chapter.
I hope that the show maintains that level of quality until the end of at least the first season and does not leave an ending as open as usually happens in live action shows.
"Never forget what you are,the rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor and it can never be used to hurt you."
great episode yee yee yee love to see it
i could already guess that a series that has been hyped so far would be full of crap, if not completely, but i wasn't expecting this much. i see anyone who says rape and incest is great(?), because you all call this bs a "masterpiece", as a potential harasser. it's truly disgusting. i mean, i'm seriously going to throw up. y'all need to get therapy.
"the things I do for love" <3
I tried to watch this when I was younger and it didn't end well. I think this time I'm going to watch the whole series, mayor problem is that I always root for the wrong people :type_1_2:♀.
This chapter, a masterpiece by itself, is a constantly reminder of how power works.
Never really got into this show as I couldn’t get through this episode, it’s kinda slow, but that ending was great, think I may let my self get sucked into it now.
Doing an analysis of all of the episodes of GOT during my rewatch, you can read the full post here!
The pilot of the episode is vital to any TV series to hook audiences in, introducing characters and plot points while not giving too much away to keep audiences watching. The GOT universe has so much to set up that it can appear near impossible to introduce everyone but the first episode handles it well - even though this wasn't the first time they had attempted it. They had actually filmed an entire pilot with Tom McCarthy directing but upon a private viewing, Benioff and Weiss were told you have a massive problem and they ended up reshooting 90% of it.

What would you want in a game of thrones video game?
I’d love a morality systemthat captures the uncertainty and brutality of the game of thrones world, with appropriate deterrents, incentives, rewards, and punishments for different behaviors. Not sure what that looks like concretely, but I’d like to see that aspect played with a bit.
And I’d love to see some awesome-looking gear.

What would you guys like to see or experience in a game of thrones video game?
"A Dothraki wedding without at least three deaths is considered a dull affair." -Magister Illyrio Mopatis
Gosh, Khal Drogo and the Dothraki are so savage.
God, this is endlessly quotable. // Also, I thought I had left this comment one of the three other times I watched this but I guess I didn't (or maybe it was a different episode where the exact same thing happens?): the scene where Cat opens Lysa's letter just annoys me so much every time I watch it - what is even the point of a seal on a letter if you can just peel it off and don't have to break it?
Have you bled yet mrs? ))))))))
Cool ..if you wanna hang around with the Eagles then you've got to learn to fly

Sprawling and instantaneously gripping, this pilot is much different than many of its counterparts. With the 1st season's main characters and some central conflicts being either introduced or foreshadowed, it tells a lot about the epic story to come. It's funny to think how this was re-shot after the first made it with so many roles, including Dany's, recast to what they were. Also if I forget about my entire viewing history of the show, it really looked good for Viserys in episode 1, what a shame...
