[8.2/10] I don’t think I’d seen this one since it first aired, and it’s so much better than I recalled! The plot is a little loony, but no loonier than standard Futurama. Bender getting mixed up with the robot mafia and having to go into witness protection, while Clamps goes undercover at Planet Express to try to get to him made for a nice premise to build the episode around.
And man, I never knew I wanted an episode where tertiary character Clamps got the spotlight, but he was great here! His constant annoyance at people, and particularly the interplay between an adoring fry and an a mildly-disgusted Clamps was a lot of fun. Plus I loved the rivalry between him and Zoidberg. I thought it would be just a series of running gags with the snips vs. clamps deal, but the fact that it factored into the climax of the episode, with ridiculous action here lines to boot, was a total treat.
The humor was also on point. Bender’s misadventures around the don bot’s wedding were some classic Bender capering. The courtroom scenes had the show’s usual amusingly sideways take on the justice system. And the scenes set on the moon had some good riffs on the silly combination of a rural setting in outer space. Plus, the closing “it was just an innocent husband and father!” line, followed by a rousing cheer, is some classic Futurama dark humor.
All-in-all, this was a fun comic ride, with each different part of the story and setting being laugh-worthy and enjoyable in its own way.
