oh absolutely.
5/5 a total masterpiece fuck the gossip!
Netflix better renew this, love it. getting addicted to characters more
non-spoiler initial thoughts
this show is AMAZING!
super well-written, tight paced, really great music selection, visuals, acting, etc
there is ACTUAL character growth and complexity in this show, so if the basic romeo and juliet storyline for the first two episodes seems kinda meh just know that it goes WAY deeper than that as the show progresses
there are some pretty complex character and storyline interactions here and they're all excellently done
I’ll begin with a disclaimer. I am not the target audience for this series, which I’m guessing are people born in this millennium, so some of the areas I had trouble with will actually be a plus for the target audience. The music, for example, I found to be loud and distracting. I kept muting it until I knew there was dialogue. Otherwise, the heart of this series is the couple and the context is the star crossed lovers of two house who are sworn enemies. The charm of the series rests entirely on Sarah Catherine Hook. Everything else would have been a colossal crash had they not cast her, her adorableness and talent saved the day. There are some bright spots in the supporting cast, but, by and large, the acting is uneven. The writing is all over the place, the characters are poorly drawn and the story arc often gets lost in translation. Basically, the audience that stays are there for the love story. I give this series a 6.5 (good in parts) out of 10. [Supernatural Romance]
After 2 episodes: Main couple has great chemistry, though you could tell everything from the huntress girl's face. So the twist that she knew all along wasn't a twist at all and I was shocked that they felt they need to do everything from her perspective so ppl knew she knew. Also, for very old vampires, the adults including the sister are so dumb/naive. Idk, this whole liver thing, I was 100% sure they're going to start believing she didn't kill her but somehow they were more convinced?! Like how?! Even with the mention of the brother I don't think he could be acting like her but doing such stuff so I find sooooo unbelieveble I couldn't watch. If it were a straight main couple I don't think I would be watching passed that point but well... I crave anything sapphic and I really want to give credit to the main actressess which are still unknown.
UPDATE after whole season: first and last episodes were the best, so the showrunners know how to make an impression, also I'm so disappointed that they stick to making Oliver bad, I really liked the twist with him not being responsible and I hoped they gonna leave it at that. I get that he might want the revenge but his last words about power wasn't that logical for me. Nevertheless, I didn't want him to be the bad one after the reveal of his past.
About the point with adults being dumb, it somehow vanished BUT there were so many moments when sth was revealed or sth just happened and I wondered how a person would react to this or if someone did sth I wondered "well, they still dont know about this" at it was revealed in the next convo that the adult already knows it. Like, it infuriated me not only bc it wasn't shown that the person get to know it but also it wasn't revealed HOW the heck they get to know the things. The least infurationg example is after Juliette's First Kill it wasn't even mentioned. The first thing is that in one ep the whole family believed she killed viciously and were afraid that she might be a murderer, then after 2 eps of lies Margot says that she knew all along that Juliette didn't kill anyone, and just another ep after that Juliette is after the First Kill, happy strong and without even hiding it and noone from the family asked who the heck she killed, only to be revealed at the 7/8 ep that she buried the body and Margot being shocked at the stupid idea. LIKE WTF!!! Idk if I just ask for too much logical behavior from a YA tv show after all those Riverdales and Gossip Girl and whatnots but jesus the parents are supposed to be old vampires !!!! HAVE SOME INTELLECT!!!
If you can turn off your brain maybe youll survive this.
could not stand the music
I know we're starved for representation but this one just tasted off.
Solid start, then at the middle of the season a drunken blind monkey must have slipped into the writers room and begin to rewrite the scripts, cause it derails so badly it's almost impossible to watch. Sad for what it could had been but what it ended being
Admittedly not the best writing, acting, or special fx, but wish it would have existed when I was a queer teen.
I can imagine a certain type of person liking this and I'm not that person. There isn't even any chemistry between the lead couple, and one of them can't act to save her life. And so many scenes are done horribly by the actors, I cannot take them seriously. And when her dad literally ate her grandmother and her mom didn't gaf??? it just doesn't make any sense sometimes. The ending was realllyyy bad but its not close to being as bad as the pilot... it was so hard to get through (THE MUSIC IS TORTURE). Tbh if the show had ended before those moms started protesting I would have rated it a 6/10 but it didn't so it deserves a four
Started off kinda fun but went downhill, the ending really didn't do it for me
This was fun and doesn’t deserve all the unnecessary criticism it’s getting. I mean I’m assuming most of us here have seen Riverdale and many of Netflix their other teen drama’s. We knew exactly the quality that we were signing up for. I do have to admit it disappointed me a little in it’s lack of romance and developing the actual relationship between Cal and Juliette but other than that I really don’t understand why people are so insistent on hating this.
just don’t like it that much, the romance is lacking a bit but for a low budget series it’s good and interesting + great rep
Started off great but became a convoluted mess at the end. Too many plot threads crammed into one episode, especially the last one. Really hoped they'd keep the focus more on Cal and Jules.
Netflix cancelled the show before season two, so you are left with too many open ends and a cliffhanger.
a good story that i liked to watch
This is ok but more of a romance than I thought it would be. The soundtrack was interesting and not always in a good way - it felt like some of the songs chosen didn't really match the theme of the show, not one of the best shows I've seen.
Overall, good first season. Some hiccups in the writing for me here and there (especially with Calliope not growing beyond a generic personality after seeming so unique in the first 2 episodes) but there's enough on each front to keep things interesting. With a better script a S2 could get very good as the doors are wide open for intrigue on every side.
I personally didn't like the show. Said because the writing was very poor, the actors could have gotten into their character more to make so they could really bring it. I know this story line isn't original but I gave it try because of the sapphic main characters since there aren't so many of these types of shows where they are the main people. But even in the end I found myself to find it a bit cringe on the last episode because first of all, Calliope just immediately blamed Juliette for everything and not even giving her a chance to really explain. Also when Juliette betrayed her sister for killing the brother of Calliope she was acting like she was any better when she knew that he literally comes from monster hunters and turning him into one wouldn't help at all but I guess she thought it would(???). Honestly Calliopes whole family made me cringe because IMO they can not act and the parents are something else. I would like to say that I watched the entire thing for the romance but I didn't I was waiting to see if it got any better.
The effects looked terrible, but I liked the story and want a season 2 lol
Not "good"
But better than I expected, in spite of all the gay stuff.
Would watch a season 2 if they made it.
First episode I thought that it was very cringe. I got “you” and “twillight” vibes sometimes ieeee.
But after that it was a really good show and good for te lgbtq+ community. It’s all really normal and good representation
The cgi could be better tho
OMG. She’s 31. Thats insane.
They couldn’t find anyone who knew how to sing to do the intro?

Very cliché. Even cringeworthy at times. The queer characters saved it. If it were just your ordinary straight tv show ,i would have probably stopped watching after the first episode.
