Really nice pilot, loved the pacing! Looking forward to see how this is going to build.
TWD: ppl complain about not showing past.
FTWD: ppl complain about showing past.
Take it easy, its just start for the hell...
Très bonne surprise, mise en place de l'histoire impeccable, présentation des personnages et de l'environnement aussi.
I got like to season 4 a few times then dropped the show, cus I forgot what happened so going thru a true re-watch.
so far its a good opening to the series. A few editing issues (i.e the glass being cracked randomly when they get caught in traffic even though the scene where it gets cracked is afterwards....) The thing I enjoy most is just how fresh & innocent the characters are. I love TWD but man, does having ever character be a killing machine get OLD quick. I know it eventually happens in FTWD, but its nice to see a new journey start, and see how the world reacts to the apocalypse unfolding in real time. I find it especially eerie to watch after COVID-19 too, as I see many similarities at how the public is reacting.
How can I which the episodes
Fear the Walking Dead had a lot going for it before it aired, but it also had a lot to live up to. Riding on the success of The Walking Dead series, expectations were quite high, even though everyone already knew that it would be focusing on a new group of people from Los Angeles and that it would be set in a completely different timeline. That is why maintaining a balance between introducing these characters in their everyday lives and finding the right tone for the impending zombie apocalypse was crucial, which I believe the creators of this show have done quite well. Personally, I feel that the character that makes it all work is Nick Clark, a drug addict who is both at the very start and at the closing moments of this episode and whose actions end up being pivotal for all those around him to become aware of what is going on. I also particularly enjoyed the way they made the streets, schools and parks become progressively less populated, which makes the viewer feel uneasy and wonder... "what the hell is happening?"
A promising start. There are a lot of haters, though, and I think many were expecting it to be The Walking Dead. It's like 90% The Walking Dead, yet the 10% of new style is objectionable to many.
There is a bit of artistic flare here. The original is artistic too, but in the sense of George Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" being artistic: bringing zombie films to a new level. The new series is more about feeling what the characters feel, especially when they see zombies for the first time. For example, the opening shot is upside down, so we feel the confusion of a druggy waking up.
The Walking Dead is filmed in 16mm, to give it that classic, zombie movie look. I haven't been able to find the specs on Fear the Walking Dead, but I'm guessing it's done with high quality HD video cameras.
The acting is criticized by many. The teen girl is often singled out. Personally, I wasn't taken out of the experience at any point. However, one advantage of a zombie series is that any bad actors are going to become zombie food. We might have to wait until next season, though, for the script writers to react to any bad acting.
The pilot was slow. But slow is not necessarily bad. Take Alien (1979), for example. I felt the pace was appropriate and built the tension. I'm looking forward to the next episode.
Unwatchable, I couldn't even complete the episode, the whole cast is bad.
Slow start, but makes sense since it's going to show how it got all insane later... I'm giving this a chance
I thought it was pretty good! Should have picked a different name because this can be confusing to the original Walking Dead show.
I agree that this first chapter was a bit slow, but I also understand that things need to build up. They are trying to show the viewer what what's this family like before the zombie apocalypse started... Also I really liked how the panic started to grow into Los Angeles population. I will give it a long run, this series deserves a chance.
I liked it, like TWD of course it will be slow, but people keep watching, and you should be thankfull that they don't rush things cause that means you'll have more time to enjoy!
No entiendo porq la gente espera mas zombies si en esta serie se sabe que apenas comienzan a aparecer. Excelente inicio. (via TVShow for WP)
Great pilot! Different than TWD but that's the point, right? I'm more than cool with the slow build approach, this feels like an end-of-days movie
Quality pilot will only get better slow build up is good, dont know why people are complaining it's good so far!!watch z nation then complain cos that is plain stupid.
"Slow" isn't a bad thing for me. Some of my favorite TWD episodes are the ones people call "slow".
I'm really excited to see where this goes and what new elements they can add that aren't in The Walking Dead. The character development was pretty on point as well.
I liked this pilot alot. I've more or less given up on the regular Walking Dead, and had really low expectations for this spin-off. Pleasantly surprised.
Not bad
i like any think related to zombie survivor
Gostei bastante. (via TVShow for WP)
Episode Ok, lost focus several times, the final scenes really was what saved a little.

Bit of a slow start, but hopefully stands up on it's own as it gets going.
TWD is such a great comic book and the TV series is good, so I'm prepared to wait this one out a it and see if it gets better. I find it unfair to compare the series against the comic book and equally this spin off to the main series.
I was almost bored to tears with the family drama. I hope the ending is going to lead to better things to come, though.
I might care about these characters more if their backstory was told later, in flashbacks or something, instead og cramming it all into an overlengthy soap opera of a pilot episode. A disappointing start.
Liked it quite a bit, forgot most of it actually since it's been 8 years. Interesting family, cool to see the final days (?) before things go wrong. I do wonder how this show will hold up after a season, since then it's just The Walking Dead with different characters.
Decent start. I liked it, it was slow at parts and uninteresting but the ending of the episode was pretty good. But don't expect much action mostly talking. Most of the characters are decent Nick is easily my favorite character right now. Easy 7/10.
I actually really like the whole concept of starting the show a day or so before the outbreak happened. It gives us an idea of how the person we follow was before and what exactly happens leading up to it. Me personally I have always wondered where people were before the outbreak so I love this take on it. I think it also helps us connect to the characters better also.
I've heard negative reviews regarding the slowness of FTWD and that the acting isn't always great, but I personally enjoyed the build up as it had a good plot, the amount of action and zombies was decent enough and it's made me look forward to finding out what happens next!
That moment, when they are out in radiation, wearing masks, riding horses. Makes sense, because horses are immune to radiation, right??? This can't get any dumber.
this has a very different vibe to 'the walking dead' but i think i like that. it's interesting to have the series starting off before the start of the plague/virus zombie apocalypse.
there are a lot of potential strong characters in this one. i can see the writers are trying to make madison (blonde teacher lady) seem relatable and likeable for being sympathetic towards her son and the other student at the school. i'm not sure about her yet.
i do really like nick. he has humor on his side and was instantly relatable and likeable. i followed alicia over from 'the 100' so i can't wait to see what she does in this new role and the character she builds here.
the show seems to (still) be getting a lot of criticism. i think people are coming over from season 5/6/7+ of 'the walking dead' and expecting 'fear' to measure up to characters we've had several years with in getting to know. there was no possible way that 'fear' could hope to replicate 'the walking dead' so they had no choice but to try something different.
it's a bit strange to be watching this six years later but i'm going back and re-watching some of my favorites and leaving commentary so i don't forget things later, and i'm excited to be finally sitting down to watch 'fear the walking dead.'
this show has a lot of potential.
I'm not a fan of TWD (too many different storylines and boring characters for my taste), so I didn't see any point in watching FTWD.
But a friend kept telling me to at least give it a try, because it's different than TWD and it has Alycia Debnam-Carey in it. Well, she got me with that last statement, so here I am.
And I have to say: The first episode wasn't as bad as I expected.
Slowness combined with people I don't especially care about... this is a miss for me.
I hoped the main character died in the first episode.
Great 1st episode, thoroughly enjoyed it :)
OK, I am a "The Walking Dead" virgin and I just started "Fear of..."Eeek. I don't like zombies. Zombies really, really freak me out. This is why I didn't watch the original. Ack. Oh no. I can deal with vampires, and lycanthropes, ghosts, poltergeists and monsters... but zombies scare me ... deeply, deeply scare me. I can't wait for the next episode.
Okay so definitely not what I was expecting but I figure junky guy is like patient zero or something?
I liked it.I'm watching this series because of the creators' track record and because they have the mighty Kim Dickens playing the show's primary protagonist.

Oh yeah also the daughter looks like Remy Lacroix. I like it
Not great, yet. When the zombies start coming it might get good. Now it's just uninteresting and boring. Also, fuck this soundtrack and such. TWD is not scary and it's not supposed to be. Like at the end of the episode when Calvin is gone. Am I supposed to be like "oh my god, this is so devistating! I wonder what's going to happen?" Because I don't feel anything.
Booooring and plastic actors. Im not canceling it in my head but its not what ive expected.
Lets hope it´s better than the "Mother" Show . . .
Really boring uninteresting dramatic start. I skipped a lot of the scenes. I suggest you watch it from 34min forwards. If you want to learn not really important stuff about the family, watch it from the start.
Great tv show. I can't wait

Really liked it. Heard complaints that it was slow. All of us watching know the zombies are going to get worse, and I personally like the build up.
