Finally! The Fallout 4 theme music I was waiting for!
Kind of a strange twist on the, "axolotl tanks," from the, "Dune," series of books. I wonder if it was intentional.
There's a scene where Lucy goes to level twelve. She watches a VCR tape. A pregnant woman is show to be strapped to a metal table in a tank of water. She gives birth to a dozen or so, "Gulpers," which proceed to eat her. In the show, "gulpers," appear to be genetically mutated, "axolotl," which are an amphibious salamander native to the underground waterways of Mexico City. Axolotl's distinctive gills are located outside of their bodies.
In the series of books by Frank Herbert referred to as, "The Dune Trilogy," there is a race of men known as the Bene Tleilax who are famous for their cloning technology. They can create a clone from just a few cells of a cadaver which can later recover their full memory[1], or create, "Face Dancers," among other things. It is eventually discovered they enslave their females, whose wombs are used to grow the clones in. Thus, the name, "axolotl tanks" of Tleilaxu.
I understand in the game "Fallout 3" the "gulpers" with fingers in their mouths are mutated salamanders, but in the T.V. series they appear as axolotls. I am guessing a writer is a fan of Dune and changed the salamanders to axolotls to create a, "literal," axolotl tank. Kind of a creepy homage to just as creepy an element of the Dune trilogy.
[1] In Dune lore the full memories of you and your ancestors are encoded in your DNA at a cellular level. (It's Science Fiction, and just supports the real thrust of the story. Spoilers, it's a story about how you shouldn't trust charismatic leaders.)
Now we are getting into the good part. I complained about the lack of Goggins last episode and in this episode we got an entire episode dedicated (mostly him) outside the revelation at the end.
When I sit back and think about the episode, on paper it's really good lot of mysteries and revelation which create new mysteries exactly my cup of tea. But when I am watching the episode it feels like a watered down tea which lacks flavor not able to point out why.....:(
It was nice to go back to the past. Double nose, single eye is very strange. Does this mean that each shelter adopts a different purpose? The cowboy was starting to behave very correctly. The twelfth floor thing is crazy. Pears often fall to the bottom. How can a person change so much for a bathrobe and slippers? :joy:
But they gave me slippers :'(
I like the scenarios...
I'm liking the lore of the ghoul...
Lucy is stupid, I really expected that to happen to her....
Maximus de chill...
Tremendous cult...
Oh god. Don't call the vault number.
Cooper/The Ghoul is my favourite part of the story. I liked Lucy-Goosey early on but she didn't do much for me in this episode although I do enjoy her forward way of asking for sex and typical Maximus being the idiot he is, turned her down. It was a shame to end the episode on such a daft scene. It really doesn't take much creativity to be a mainstream scriptwriter, oops she made a sound and got caught then somehow the petite little woman who is from a peaceful vault managed to throw a bunch of people around before being captured The show is decent but I'm still waiting for a wow episode and not having played the main Fallout games very much, I am not easily impressed by nods to the game so they are going to have to actual write something good. Hopefully they got better writers for future episodes or the current ones saved their inspiration for later.
"I shouldn't have trusted a doctor that smelled like that!"
so much flaws in this episode. and so much fan boys here.
The discussion over the vaults in this episode between Cooper and Barb is amongst the most forced BS I've ever seen. Feels like they're getting divorced over whether to drive in the middle lane or right lane on the highway, damn.
So curious about Moldaver!
I watched the first episode on saturday night and 5 episodes on sunday and so far i have no notes, but i had to stopped cause i’m a little worried about how are they gonna wrap everything up in the last two episodes? Like this whole Lucy gets captured by the insane cult of vault 4 seems unnecessary to me, I’d rather this episode to end with lucy and maximus escaping.
Cause they still gotta find Bo (Superstore reference) with the head and the dog
For Lucy to find out Max is a fraud and the other knights wont help them
Get to Moldaver
Find out what’s the deal with the head
Exchange the head for the dad
Probably discover the dad is a nasty man
And that’s just them, we still have to know the deal with vault 31-32-33
The ghoul’s backstory and what happened to his kid
And more!!!
I knew from the start that Vault 4 was up to no good. I just knew it somehow.
This show is getting, uh, pretty weird.
That was a much better episode. Getting into the past and the present. What's up with vault 4? Strange thing's and even stranger people! Maximus is really enjoying himself now. :thumbsup_tone1:
A nice story building episode with some great reveals at the end. I had a theory about Vault 31 being some kind of control vault for 33 and 32 given that they've supplied their Overseerers and refurbed the trashed vault pretty fast. This episode kinds confirmed that when the Cooper's wife mentioned the 'better' vaults that will control others.
Holy moly what is Moldaver all about though! She's no Ghoul but she's been around as long as him and still looks just as fine as she did back then!
My best friend is a huge fallout fan and deep in the lore. He's given me no spoilers but says so far he is extremely happy with the whole production and they're absolutely nailing this adaptation.

The score when Lucy saw the NCR flag… chills! I have nothing against Ramin Djawadi, he really know how to make a great score, but the show is very much missing out without the ambient music made by the dudes who composed the games.
