It was obvious from the first scene that this was going to be the awesomest show.
Went into the Fallout TV show trying not to expect much, but it was such a pleasant surprise. The attention to detail is impressive, the cast is amazing, Walton Goggins in particular manages to give a significantly emotional performance even under tons of prosthetics, and the way music is implemented as part of the storytelling works perfectly. Looking forward to season 2.
What can I say they deliver this season. And it's a much better video game adaptation than Halo series (season 1) I haven't finished the first season 1 of that show. The writing here is much, much better than the other adaptation mentioned.
The visual effects leave much to be desired, giving the series an unpolished B-movie feel. The direction falls short as well. In contrast, the adaptation of another game, The Last of Us, sets a significantly higher standard.
Edit:
Upon viewing more episodes, my initial impressions remain regarding the direction and at times, the storytelling which can be a mess. However, the series begins to improve as it delves deeper into character development.
Edit2:
Yeah, after watching the whole show, it's definitely worth a watch, I really loved it at the end. The display of the depravation from corporations is not something I expected and it's done beautifully.
My review for Fallout Season 1. Obvious spoilers.
Will have the summary, then pros list, then cons list.
Summary (p.s. it's long.) This show may be a 10/10 for me honestly. I'm not trying to be bias or a Fallout fanboy but when I tell you that I never got bored of this show or never felt something didn't belong, it's true. I tried desperately to write a con that would drop the rating but I honestly couldn't find anything.
All of the storylines blended perfectly, all of the characters were interesting, the directors respected the lore (Massive plus, especially coming from a Halo fanboy... We know what happened with our show..), and the ending just brought it all together beautifully. I found myself on the edge of my seat with the mystery of Vault 31-33, I was saddened by the Ghouls past, interested in how Maximus would end up with his confliction between the BoS and Lucy, and invested to see how Lucy reacts to the harsh reality of the wasteland. Not to mention, the overwhelming brutality and realism of the wasteland. Amazing stuff. Anything less than a 8/10 is a crime imo.
Pros:
First episode was (hopefully not bias) pretty much perfect. Perfectly matches the vibe of the games, the characters set-up are interesting, Brotherhood of Steel storyline starting off great, and the raiders sequence was pretty much perfect.
The biggest plot twist is the Paladin in Power Armor just flipping out when a bear attacks him. Absolutely hilarious.
Once again, amazing action sequences.
The little bit of backstory for The Ghoul is a great parellel for who he is now. He wanted to be a hero who didn't break but became a bounty hunter who kills without mercy.
Just gotta say, Maximus stands on business..
Wow, this show really shows no mercy so far. Annabel losing her eye, Wilzig losing his leg, then life, Maximus losing a tooth for caps, and now the Ghoul lost his finger and instantly cut Lucy's finger off in revenge. Really well done showing how much you can lose in the Wasteland.
I am loving Norm's storyline with the vaults. Especially after the Overseer gave 32 a "make over". The aura around that scene is amazing.
Once again, another Vault, more interesting stories. But that's how vaults always been.
NV references is always a win.
I love the parallel of Thaddeus hoping for the death of Ghouls in the beginning to inevitably becoming one. It's honestly a hilarious bit of karma there.
I adore how Maximus' character is going. He's stuck between to sides, the Brotherhood and the side that's right (Lucy for the most part). His actions depend on who he favors at the time and who would give him the home he desires. But ultimately, he decides to be by Lucy's side. That's the person he wants to be.
I feel for the Ghoul in the past. Discovering his wife is in on the end of the world.. Total destruction of the heart.
Wow, just wow. Way to bring the Lucy and the vaults story to a close in the end. The mystery of the Vault 31-33, how Lucy's mom died, and the truth of Lucy's dad. Amazing conclusion.
After learning how Lucy's mom died, I understand how connected Lucy and Norm are to her. Lucy may be Naive but she has a heart of gold like her mom. And Norm may be the black sheep and uninspired but his intellect led to discovering the vault secrets like his mom. A massive pro in this department.
To add to the previous part, Lucy being naive progressively begins to realize the reality of the world, which shows when she kills her ghoul mom. Something she didn't understand when The Ghoul killed his friend. And then Norm, despite being uninspired, becomes invested in uncovering the truth of vaults 31-33. They really strengthen their weaknesses throughout the season.
Man, after all Maximus did to get to Lucy and leave the BoS, he now has to play the role of knight again. Without the desire he previously had, but with confliction and the passion to be with Lucy.
NEW VEGAS AT THE END! Is Lucy and The Ghoul going to go against The House now? I guess we'll find the canon ending of NV next season as well.
Cons:
I haven't seen this series before but it has good effects and an interesting plot... I liked it
Very interesting take on the post apocalyptic world that is fallout. It was an entertaining first season with some good characters and only a few changes from the game that were noticeable however I think it's main let down was the fact that the surface story was so boring. I was always wondering when we were going back to vault 33 to find out more about what happened and the experiment that were taking place and how it related to the ghouls past
The ghoul and the vaults were rhe stand our parts of this show and i just wanted more of them instead of everything else that just seemed like pointless sidequests.
Very accessible to newbies like me, and I'm into everything about this except the narrative's mystery keepaway which, after all is said and done with also the episodes' general length, make it feel a bit like prestige bloat for this particular arc and a tad underwhelming. But the world-building, techs, characters, performances (Purnell's transformation over the season without losing her character core, as evidenced in the way her "okey dokey"s morph each time it's used, is so good), and especially its jokey-gory tone are nailed so well that it's a lot of fun anyway.
Fallout Season 1 is a lot more fun than I was initially expecting. I was cautiously optimistic after learning that the team behind Westworld was working on this season. The show manages to capture the tone and style of the games, but more importantly, it builds an interesting story utilizing the lore that can stand on its own. The episodes vary depending on the "side quest" they cover, but the overarching story was engaging for sure. Ramin Djawadi's score is fantastic as usual, and Lucy and The Ghoul had plenty of screen presence. I also liked how the show managed to weave in a variety of side characters and their backstories. The biggest gripe I had with the show was Maximus, whose character felt far more undefined. I feel like the show was aiming for an arc of personal growth, but it felt a bit unearned because it seemed like he didn't actually...grow? And while I do think the humor is stylistically aligned with the games, I also felt that it didn't always translate as well to live action, with some of the jokes feeling a bit overly juvenile. Still, I think it is a very strong debut season, and I will certainly be excited to continue watching future adventures in this world.
I think this series has the best production, visual effects, and CGI I've seen in a series. I believe if you're making a Fallout series, the primary goal should be to immerse the audience into the Fallout universe, to make them live it, and this series definitely excels at that. The locations, costumes, props, and humor all made me feel that the universe is real and alive. Even as someone who is minimally familiar with the Fallout universe, I was very impressed, and it made me want to open up and play the games.
I also liked the storytelling. In some episodes, it beautifully gives you the feeling of playing a Fallout game, chasing main quests while encountering side activities, and taking on side quests. They also handled the storytelling of past and future together very well.
What irritated me the most while watching were mostly the dialogues and some of the acting. Many dialogues in the series felt very Hollywood-like, very cheesy, and very artificial. Hearing such cliché dialogues in a work released in 2024 feels very odd. Maybe they intentionally did this to match the Fallout tone, I don't know. And these complaints were mostly valid for the first half; I got more into the series in the latter half.
I'm eagerly awaiting the continuation.
7.5/10
As a fan of the game series, I really enjoyed the first season of Fallout.
I don't think I would change anything about this season of TV. Maybe the emotions in the end could have landed a bit harder and maybe Lucy and Maximus' romance felt a little forced, but those are slight criticisms. For the most part those elements work well enough and if you ask me, everything else in here is just about perfect.
The script is clever, well-written, and pays attention to detail. The balance of characters and the pacing is flawless. The story flows naturally as characters meet, separate, meet again later, meet other characters, etc. It's like a spiderweb of connections that is perfectly constructed, all the while moving towards an endpoint where everything comes together. Little tricks to make things feel connected work really well too, like the use of Dogmeat. The use of the landscape and world also help build out the story and atmosphere wonderfully. It's just such a satisfying and fun script through and through. Out of all the main four story elements and arcs, I did not find any of them to be boring or like a waste of time. Often when shows contain multiple different arcs with different characters and locations, there are one or two that are less enjoyable than the rest and whenever you switch to that part of the show you're just waiting to get back to the other parts. But with Fallout, I was excited to see all of the arcs and what would happen next, so every time we jumped from one to another it was exciting. A bit predictable at times perhaps with some story and character elements, but executed wonderfully nonetheless and still has enough surprises with great payoff that makes this feel like a contained story while also leaving enough to be excited about for a second season.
The performances across the board are also fantastic and everybody does exactly what they need to do, embodying their characters perfectly. Each character has so much life and personality and are all unique from one another, which makes the various combinations of characters and interactions so much fun. Ella Purnell is so charming and expressive, Aaron Moten is perfectly boyish and layered, even Moisés Arias is killing it and the supporting cast throughout the world is perfect. But Walton Goggins above all else proves that he is a phenomenal talent. His character is so well written, and he has a big task of playing essentially two different characters and then finding the middle ground between them as the show progresses, and he knocks it out of the park. Cooper and The Ghoul feel like two different people thanks to Goggins. Yet, by the time we get to the end you see 100% of Cooper and 100% of The Ghoul at the same time. The character becomes both of his selves, with not one taking away from the other. It's like two identities merging and coming forth into a new person that is the perfect summation of the two. The writing made that arc possible, and Goggins made it a reality. It cannot be overemphasized how well-written and well-performed this character of is, definitely my favorite part of the show which is saying a lot.
All-in-all, this show is just such a good time. Everything I have said makes it incredibly impressive, but it is also just an absolute blast from start to finish with sky-high entertainment value. The visuals, action, character dynamics, humor, soundtrack, art direction, and more all blend wonderfully and create such a fun experience. The tone is uniquely balanced and feels like something you could only get from Fallout, and the blending of genres is really impressive.
I went into this very hesitant. Video game adaptation have historically not been good for the most part, and from the images and marketing I did not have high hopes. When Amazon decided to drop the entire season at once I figured they knew it was a disaster and just wanted to get it out there and over with quick. I am so thrilled that none of that was true. This show absolutely pops. As someone who is a fan of Fallout but not a diehard (I have only played Fallout 4 and loved it), I don't think I could've had a better time with this show. Didn't want it to end and can't wait for more.
As far as a pilot goes this was pretty good.
They were faithful to the games esthetic... The nuke scene was great. I'm glad they showed it full force.
ok so here we go. I haven't play the game i do not care about the game this is not your PlayStation is a tv show and for that it will be judged. I feel that most 10s are from people who played the game and find it satisfying and real to the game. Not fair at all. Something like that destroyed the latest "Resident Evil" from people bashing because it wasn't like the game but man the story and show was awesome.
So, Lucy and Maximus completely stupid, annoying and redundant characters. I do not care a bit about them and the whole journey. The show is episode 1 and the last three episodes. Very long episodes middle was totally boring of them walking and facing nothing that can make you interested or learning something about the story.
Also too much silliness and stupid reactions, especially with that hideous 60's music on top of every silly scene which make the season a great comedy show.
By far the most interesting character is the The Ghoul/Cooper. The flashbacks of the last episodes was the main part that make the show interesting and watchable to the end. I want to find out what happened and how it happened to him. Of course the father also comes to play but Lucy, you can just stay in your crypt and plant tomatoes.
The flashbacks redempt the show and gave it meaning. I would love more of the past and the how than again two people walking in the wasteland. As a show it failed on that part and thanks for the last three episodes which have saved it and told a nice story that you may want to follow for season 2. Overall 4 episodes and you are done.
Seems like a solid start. Honestly might like this more than the games.
After finishing the first season of Fallout, I can say it was very good.
For those of us who are fans of the games, this show follows that atmosphere very well with many different aspects that can be related back to the games. The story of this show can be connected extremely well with the third Fallout game as there is a search for a missing father and the protagonist must discover and learn what the real outside world is like while searching.
For those who have never played any of the game series that this show is based upon, I can definitely still see this series as enjoyable and fascinating because of the fantasy world these people live in and how it can relate to our real world. Most of us have been educated about the many different tragic wars our world has faced and how brutal they can be primarily. The Fallout story line connects very well with The Cold War and its push on nuclear weapons amongst nations for ultimate power. However in this story the nuclear weapons are actually fired causing the "end of the world".
I really hope this show encourages more people to try out any of the fallout series games if they haven't already so they can understand the enjoyment it brings which led to the creation of this show in the first place. I know I will be replaying one very soon in hopes of the release of a new Fallout 5.
Well, I did say I'll give them a free 10 stars if I see at least one easter egg related to bugs, and 1 star if none.
I didn't see any so 1 star for Season 1.
Now, before you cry about it, I rated each episode fairly.
My only problem with it is how did Moldaver live, and Season 2 not being out yet.
Despite the oddball cast of genetic lottery losers which starkly contrast the purity pushed in the game and the show, I managed to make it to the end of the season which is more than I can say for 12% Body Problem.
To the child who is editing my reviews please stop or I will take legal action. If you think the facsists that bully you are a problem you are in for a world of legal pain.
Good series, budgeted and well written. The problem I see is that there are only eight episodes and there are a couple of fillers, it feels like a long introduction of the characters.
They already have the base, let's hope it improves now.
As a fallout game lover, not as good as expected
In short: this is a must-see for all fans of the Fallout game series! This is a wonderful adaptation! Music, references and the world are reminiscent of the game series one by one.

I haven't played the games, but for this series I'll give it a shot....
The performances at times I didn't like at all....
I loved the scenography, and the action scenes were good, although I would have liked to see more...
The plot (without having played the games), seems good to me and gives me the chance to continue, but I would like to expand it more...
The number of episodes, by duration are good, although there are some slow moments...
In general it is a good adaptation and I think I would watch other seasons, if they know how to carry the story well...
I would recommend it...
9/10
I'd like to see if Lucy makes Maximus' dick explode.
