I may be the only one here, but i don't watch shows just to comment about the acting, visual effects and stuff. Actually I finished this one a time ago now. However i think it deserves some more credit, as i've seen shows with poor acting and terrible visual effects that surprisingly last more than 1 season. While of course, good series (like this or better, i should say) die after 2 seasons.
I may be a simple guy but i know what i want, and it's not about the acting or the script, it's about the story! Creativity, above all. Stargate sg-1 always had terrible actors, even for the 90's, and i don't see anyone complaining. Atlantis was similar, and then stargate universe came, with great production and better cast, and guess what? Ended after season 2. If you ask me, sci-fi is going to hell these days, but at least some shows like this can still make it.
Despite all of that, as i'm not just a stupid fanboy, i will admit the second half of season 5 was horrible, so thank god they finished it there. But i can't complain about the overall story (and acting). I just can't, guys, sorry!

Season 4 is really a total disappointment.
I hope they will make an end to the series soon, before it gets cancelled without a proper ending :(
Acting seems to be going downhill, even by the regulars in the cast, conversations are so predictable they hardly have to say anything anymore at all anyway and this whole Messiah crap is really getting to me (Frank Herbert, anyone?). Seems the creators are totally out of inspiration and have started copying random other series and movies and throwing it into a mixer and then hope for a proper story coming out of it. That is definitely a fail.... they really should have brought an end to this series at season 3, instead of dragging a great series on and on into oblivion.
season 1 and 2 were superb, now it's just stretching things thin :(
Detestable cast of characters who are 2 dimensional plot devices - nothing likable or relatable about any of them. The story plods from one self induced crisis to the other, it’s complete rubbish.
But I’m going to watch it to its conclusion, just to see how stupid it can get.
I just watched the first three seasons so everything is based on that.
I wouldn't go as far as to say it was a struggle to watch this but at the same time it was no revelation. There was potential lurking beneath the surface and once or twice I thought: now it got through. But it always fell back to what this ultimately is: a drama show.
Budget seemed to be small as everything look rather cheap even at the later stages. That could be forgiven if the rest would have met expectations. But it didn't. Writing was not very strong, there are tons of logical errors and plot holes. Some things really didn't made any sense at all. And then, like many shows, they went overboard and added stuff everywhere. Acting was OK at best, no one really stood out.
At the end of season three I really wanted to finish this but watching maybe fifteen minutes of the premiere of season four made me drop out in a hurry. Not a show I will remember.

I find it getting better the more i watch it, or i appreciate it more after all this time. But, this is with keeping in mind that its not a high quality show with superb writing. Its a bit rough around the edges and you have to accept that some of the acting, writing is just not that good. If you can watch past that, then im sure that you can really appreciate this show.
PS: Also it looks like the CGI budget wasnt that big in the beginning so dont expect to see much CGI until later in the series.
It was painful wathing this shit...I really should have stopped after season 1, but (as usual) I think things will get better and as usual I was wrong. This is a piece of shit series with really, really bad acting and lame dialogue. The storylines has often big errors and illogical twists. It helps to be an idiot if you are to enjoy this show.

Now if they don't change their approach we, the viewers, might end up having to forget the show and the channel would be forced to cancel it.

viewer loves show X- channel's happy and changes script for the next season adding more unlogical soap opera shit- viewer stops watching = amazing show becomes a pile of shit, an Epic Fail. X.X
I want to see another X seasons, but c'mon, cut the soap opera shit. There's been little to no progress this season. 5 minutes progress- the rest is soap opera a la Bold and Beautiful.
I can live with soap opera, I like a reasonable amount of soap opera but make it interesting, show us character backgrounds etc..... instead of killing the show.
I've high hopes for episode 9 of S4. Trailer looks good...

Well after seven episodes the show still is very weak. Bad acting, script errors, cheesy dialog. I was expecting so much of this show but a big let down so far. But i have to agree V was much worse.
How is it that everyone is from or around Boston but no one has a masshole accent? That's what really bothered me about this series.
I really liked the way this one was going. I just think the ending was rushed! Everything was done so elaborately and then suddenly the ending was there.
This show kind of started on the wrong feet : everyone had high expectations and it did not really deliver. But it got better throughough the first season.
So, basically : not the show of the year, but not a bad show either. This is your average entertaining sci-fi show.

The series overall is very good. I don't know what the fuck happened to season 5; the quality of everything dropped off the cliff.
Late to the party as I’ve binged this only now, almost 10 years later.
Season 1 and 2 are very good, then the people’s drama and storylines in seasons 3-4-5 drag things down a bit.
Overall would have benefitted from a tighter writing, but if you get past the perfect hair on ladies in the middle of the apocalypse, and some story hiccups, it’s overall a good watch.
Tom Mason is a great character, and Dan Weaver too.
This is a mediocre show with shallow characters and an even weaker plot. There are multiple reasons contributing to make this a mediocre show.
1. Nationalism
AMERICA!!!
Why do you have to shove nationalism down our throats when the antagonists are the alien overlords. There is no government or countries remaining after the attack.
2. Characters
Characters are one dimensional. The MC is portrayed as an intellectual specialising in history. When the show starts out they tried to show his intelligence and rational thinking. But as the show progresses he becomes dumb. Plans are horrible. He is impatient and takes unnecessary risks. Other characters are even worse. Most of the characters don't act like they are facing an alien invasion. And the characters have zero development.
3. Plot armor
There is some obvious plot armor to all the major characters. Even with 99% fatality rates, they survive multiple times. Shoddy writing makes the plot armor so obvious. Even with the stupidest plan they face no major deaths and with some lucks they succeed.
4. Plot
Plot is all over the place. The story is about an alien invasion of earth that focuses on US of A. The MC, a history professor is the main attacking force of the whole world. Don't worry he has his 3 sons as his back up. The direction tries to make the MC as masculine as possible, that it comes as a bit odd. The story is messy and feels like a 30 minute episode stretched to 5 seasons.

It is good enough to watch, don't expect a masterpiece not even something great, it's a TV show for when you have nothing better to do which is most of the TV shows out there.
The Plot:
Not complex, the thing that got in my nerves is they don't answer some pretty simple questions that needed to be appointed. The other part is that they don't explore the Volm culture enough making them look like they are their only as a fix for Earth's technological inferiority.
The Acting:
I'm didn't see anything bad in the acting, the actor who plays Tom Mason it's good, Weaver it's quite good him self, Tom's sons also do a pretty good job.
The other stuff:
Special Effects is something that I don't mind being week in TV Series, I totally understand why some of those don't make better ones, (MONEY!!!!). The Soundtrack was nothing amazing but it did make the show any more horrible.
i can't get my head around on why i have been watching this series going back to the first episode.. don't get me wrong i enjoyed it but right now i feel no joy or anything the 4th season was the last one that i enjoyed the 5th i saw some episodes complete some i skipped and watched in 10-15 minutes i don't know what but something about it even if i took the 1st 2nd and 3rd season to watch again on my state of mind right now September 15th 10:33 pm ( or 19:33 my time ).... but i guess someday i'll get back on it just to see what happens on last 3 episodes of season 5 but for now i tried playing season 5 episode 8 and i couldn't e felt repulsed by it and on why would i watch such a thing i cant explain why i felt that way i know the show isn't bad but that's how i felt ... so i deleted it from my computer ( FYI other shows that I've watched and feel similar are TWD , but not as much as this one ) ( other one is defiance.. but i liked that one i got around the not felling repulsed by it as much the end was really nice )
all in all .. perhaps those shows for me were in the heat of the moment thing and don't want to miss out even if i did not like it as much as the first season and then after I've seen it e feel like it has felt like crap not that the program is bad but i feel like it has no meaning
the three show i mention follows 1 to 10 like the rating system of the site ( keeping in mind that all of them was or had no meaning at some point ( falling skies is now as i write this) (TWD when it had its final 4 episodes or so for the season 5) and ( defiance too 3 or 5 episodes left ) so i goes Falling skies 3; TWD 4 ; defiance 4; falling skies i couldn't get around seeing its last episodes so its crap; TWD 4 because i had a similar struggle but i saw all of it and if i were to see it all over again right now i wouldn't.. and finally defiance which the only good part was the ending so yeah ...
as for official rating of the show ill have to change it from a 8 to a 4 since the hearts represent how i feel about the series and not how good the show really is and how much money they spent on it it also does not reflect the actors so yeah...
also GOT sucked for me last season 5th that is i just felt it wast up to it all the people i cared about is probably dead ( its how i feel about the show )

Oh my, what was that series finale? I watched just after watching Kingsman and the aliens exploding were worse than that, that was clearly a joke. Besides that, everything happened so fast, looking like the finale was anticipated...

The season finale episode was a disservice to the entire series. Poor directing - camera shaking was Blair Witch Project meets bad video gamer first person movement. Very disappointed all around.
After watching 5 seasons, I think it wasn't worth it... I always thought that It could become better but... It has become shittier. Too much political chatter, almost every episode Tom Mason makes a boring speech which makes it too American for me. I can't explain it better but In the end it felt to me like a waste of time. First 2 seasons where ok. I don't recommend it.
It had been a pretty good show up until the middle of Season 4. From then on the plotline became repetitive and even lost cohesion, started abusing the deus ex machina concept many times, only to create more problems later on.
It's a real shame because it had every chance to be remembered as a well-done sci-fi show with good length and a proper, satisfying ending.
The bad doesn't wash out the good though. Even if it falls short, it's still a show worth watching.
The dialog is really cheesy
How many times can it be a surprise when the 2nd Mass joins up with a military unit, or any large group of people, and then they are all arrested, or things go bad, once per season it seems, Please skip that next season.
I'm at S01E10 and it's very hard to keep on watching... does it get better?

Great season finale. With the arrival of another alien race, could this be the bad thing that us coming. Also rather sad to see Lexi go, she died so humanity can live. A good end for her.
Season 1 was really good. Then the show was going worse and worse. Season 4 is horrible bad :(

It started fast paced- interesting story, nice trailer, promising world and acting... a producer's lie. Before it even started I had this hype, y'know. I was waiting for it to go on air. I watched Season 1- The Beginning was slow, got a bit better at the end. Season 2 was good. Yes, Falling Skies's entertaining, a bit slow sometimes. What it lacks is the Hype-factor! I'm a bit disappointed, but I'll keep watching it.
A nice idea for a show, yea, but I think somebody should fire the Head Director. He compromised the storyboard team. xD

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion and mine is I think this show us great. Like most of you have said it was a gradual buildup, a little slow at times but by season 3 I really cared about theses characters.

2nd season is great =)
The show has been weak from the very beginning and although Season 2 has been better than Season 1, the show still doesn't qualify as a memorable one. The Season 2 finale felt like a regular show and nothing like a finale. Great shows get cancelled and this still gets to Season 3, that's a shame.
Getting through season 2 at the moment, I have to say this keeps getting better. The end of this season two has a very battlestar galactica-ish atmosphere that's very enjoyable.

Doubt they can fix the show, cheesy dialog, mediocre acting. was hoping for a true SciFi serie but it's just not happening with this show. I'll keep watching for now just because I don't have anything else to fill the SciFi void.

Very disappointing. It's pandering to non-scifi fans in the hopes of gaining a wider audience, which seems fairly typical these days with scifi series. I'll give it one more episode, but doubt I'll continue... Below average cinematography, bad writing, bad story, bad special effects - acting is okay, but really bad casting.
First two episodes were ok. Not great but, i will keep watching as the story unfolds.
