A surprisingly gripping show. Highly recommended.
Seems slow at first but you get hooked to it once you catch the drift. Easy-to-relate-to characters and realistic story lines coupled with excellent videography can make all the difference. Who knew?
Fun fact that I'm pretty sure everyone knows: In Iron Man 3, it is revealed that Happy enjoys Downton Abbey. They even show a scene from it towards the end.
One of a kind as a show. Although I am British I despise the class system but this show depicts the royalty through WWI and its aftermath beautifully. Feminism and job opportunities for all dominate this show as ideas for the characters. Great acting especially from Mr. Carson, costumes, shooting locations north in Yorkshire and overall a great series. Still, there are some boring episodes and that is the reason I give it a 9.
First few seasons are great - really well delivered drama. But after a few seasons, it becomes repetitive and a bit tiresome, the show loses its charm. It's never a bad show, in fact, it's always good in terms of acting and production, I just felt that after a few seasons I started to lose interest in what was going on.
Thomas Barrow is the best part of this show.
So don't do what I did and read too much about the show. It's much more fun when the twists and turns are unexpected.
The accolades do the show justice.
Brilliant acting from everybody. But I have my favourites. A lot of tea was consumed while watching this ;-)
Actually I found the last three seasons more interesting and funny_unlike most people_ than the earlier ones.
I enjoyed the first season, but after that it turned into a mediocre primetime soap... lost interest early on in season 2. As the show aired on public television in the states, I found the implied quality rather humorous. Fine if you like it, but watching it doesn't exactly impart an air of sophistication. For those who enjoyed this series, take a peek at Australia's "A Place to Call Home", orgasmic by comparison. Downton is TV melodrama, nothing more... nothing less -- "A Place to Call Home" is genre-similar, knows what it is and does it so much better ;-)

Arghh s3e1 isnt until September 23rd!!!
Binged it. I wish there was less repetition in storyline.
I rated 9/10 because some things (like the LGBTQ+ stuff) bothers me as a Christian.
I know I'm probably a little harsh in my overall rating of this but I do find a drastic change in quality between season 1-3 and 4-6. What I once found really enjoyable about Downton Abbey was the perfect balance in most characters of faults and qualities. At one point most characters almost become a caricature of themselves. And that's not talking about the movies because those are an aberration in themselves. I'd rather not expand because I really think people need to give this a try. It has an incredible mood, setting and costumes. The characters interaction are really worth exploring. Just be warned that it does not stay great throughout.
I chat about this series in this video:
bingeing stranger things, queer love, corrupt superheroes :sparkles: What I'm watching in June :rainbow: https://youtu.be/IHdOZWP_ki4
After finishing first season of alias series on 13221, i am here. I watch series season by season.
I chose this series because time of episodes are long, around 47 minutes as far i saw and it is historic.
I hope i can enjoy. I will edit here after watching seasons i hope. I will copy this to also season 1 review.
the british aristocratic culture. no wonder why some pedantic guy always love it.
英式貴族文化,優雅主婦,自鳴得意,美化咗的,紅樓夢般,難怪陶傑like
第二季編劇實在太頹廢了,基本上隨便把配角弄死,然便把主角美化,再狗血地離離合合而已
I've been wanting to watch this series since its debut, but somehow it's always eluded me when looking for something to watch. I completely binge-watched the whole series over the holidays and, I almost want to do it again, I liked it so much. I didn't think I was going to continue watching it, from the first episode but gave it a chance, then I couldn't STOP watching it.
I enjoyed the character development throughout the series. I was amazed at how interested I was in each story of each character. It was very engaging for me.
Another brilliant anthology series from Masterpiece Theater. A real treat from the usual drudgery of today's lineups in the US. If you like period dramas, this might be for you, was definitely worth it for me.
As good as star trek
The end couldn't be better. Is there anything elese like this TV-show?
The best TV show I've ever seen!
I do not understand, I am only wanting to watch DowntonAbbey's previous seasons, and there is no stream for Season2 or 3???? Do any of the sites managers EVEN read our user comments???? Really frustrating ya know??
#ShiftvW8
Ah, wtf, series 1, episode 6 IS NOT DOWNTON ABBEY??? It is 'highway to sell, hell whatever!!! Not too impressed with this site at the moment?? #ShiftvW8
I agree 100%. I hated to see it end. I hope they come out with a replacement.
I absolutely loved DA! Beautiful show!

Such a well written, engaging show. Seems dull on the outside, Georgette Heyer level drama on the inside. Well worth it from episode one on...

‘Downton Abbey’ Renewed for Sixth Season: http://variety.com/2014/tv/news/downton-abbey-renewed-sixth-season-1201349590/
Awesome serie, great age !
Matthew and sybil died it's so unfair
I really loved Downton Abby. And then came Season 4. The average daily soap has better writing. Joanne Froggatts and Brendan Coyles acting is plainly awful.
Love this PBS series!
I just love Downton Abbey. Everything in this show is wonderful. Acting, screenplay, directing, photography, all perfect.
Decided to give this a try out of boredom and curiosity, and now it's my favorite show. Love it!!!
On air in UK on 22th september !!!
I don't understand anything. I've tried to search for the answer but cannot seem to find out, only a hell of a lot of spoilers. That's not satisfying at all.
What I'm asking is what went wrong with end of season 2 and start of season 3. Why is Mary og Matthew suddenly getting married when they buried Miss Swire in the end of season 2. There were no alerts that this would happen. What about carlisle?
I was enthralled! Favorite show!
outstanding in all aspects
Makes me cry and suffer together! Astonishing series.
I started watching this show because my wife wanted me to watch with her but I have to say that I look forward to watching each episode. As syk3d mentioned, it's a very gripping show - very well written and great character development!
This is drama first class. I love it!
Damn this show is amazingly wonderful to watch. I went in skeptical, figuring it was something the wife would like and I would hate. It's now one of my favorite shows. It is amazing how fast paced the story and plot moves along in just 10 episodes. Wonderful acting, amazing set, incredible lighting, believable plot lines.

I can't believe I've had this show in my library for more than a year and I've only recently started watching it... One of my biggest mistake regarding tv shows...
This show is just amazing! You just care about all the characters, nothing is black and white, a character you hate one instant can become your favorite in an episode time, you can go from laughter to tears in a matter of minutes. The stories are so well written they just seem so real. And the actors are just perfect. I don't think there is one I don't like, not event one with room for improvement. This is one of the best casting I've seen in a lot of time.
Everyone should just watch it, it is one of the best show I've ever seen and I've seen a lot of them.
And I'm normally not a big fan of tv shows set in the past.
It's really hard after watching it to go back to newer and lighter shows. They just seem dull...
