Doctor Who: Season 2

2x04 World's End

Continuing to work through season 2, which I'd previously seen about 6-7 years ago, due to the new bluray release.

This is a great start to the second Dalek ark. Sets the stage with the grim suicide, then counters the hopes of Barbara and Ian upon returning to London with the steady reveal of the post-apocalyptic state of the world. There's not much to the Robo-Men beyond being a conceptual predecessor to the much more iconic Cybermen, but they do a nice job of misdirecting our sense of threat before the perfect cliffhanger emergence of the Dalek. I can only imagine how kids at the time erupted in joy and terror. The direction is nice, keeping everything moving at an exciting pace, especially with the significant use of pre-filmed exterior footage that gives the show a cinematic sense of dynamism and scale.

Promising start of the story arc. The doctor really is terrible at arriving at the right time and location.
