2x10 The Powerful Enemy

While elements of this feel like some slapped together filler, with the actors running around styrofoam rock sets with fully visible seams, for the storyline that's meant to introduce their new plucky teen sidekick, it's a surprisingly dark affair, with her pluck and fashion contrasted against abandoned despair and emotional abuse. Having seen this before, I do already know the twist behind her male caretaker, but it's impressive seeing it being cleverly set up. I also like how the Doctor is evolving, taking on more of the befuddlement of the then contemporary Peter Cushing film version, but exploring how much of that is him feeling lost and uncertain following his split with Susan, who I'm glad is being mentioned following her departure to give her an additional legacy.
