Doctor Who: Season 1

1x01 Rose

Despite the extremely dated visuals and laughable action, this was actually a lot of fun!

This episode just goes to show that with great acting and writing, you don't need amazing effects. Who couldn't love Rose after this episode? "Thank you." - "Thank you for what?" - "Exactly." Absolutely savage.

Can't believe this episode is 15 years old today. Happy Birthday, sweetie.

Billie Piper and Noel Clarke killed it and Christopher Eccleston is such a treat.

What a great pilot episode. As pilot episodes go, this is probably my favourite. The CGI is better than I thought. I thought it would stick out like a sore thumb, but it manages to keep up my suspension of disbelief. Until I see Mickey and that bin and the Nestene Consciousness, the VFX look fine.

IT'S GOOD.

TECHNICAL SCORE: 7/10

I think it would be better. But what to expect in terms of effects in 2005? I'll keep on going.

Observations:
The Doctor told Rose to shield her eyes when he first used the sonic screwdriver.
Most of the effects were practical, some CGI - but poor quality.
First season is mostly the corniest season of the series.
The Doctor recently regenerated, as he's never seen himself in the mirror before "Could be worse", makes fun of ears.
However, he has been seen throughout multiple events throughout time with Eccleston's face.
First time you meet Christopher Eccleston, Rose, Rose's Mom, and Mickey.
First use of the word "FANTASTIC"

Villain: Living Plastic

Doing a rewatch with many Doctor Who fans all over the world today.

This is my first outing with Doctor Who, out of the millions of other outings that there are of the character. From what I can tell based off of the first episode is that I love Christopher Eccleston (28 Days Later) as the Doctor. He is sarcastic, funny, and all-around great. I also like the character of Rose. The enemy mannequins were fairly creepy, but a tad bit ridiculous as well. Speaking of which, the CGI has not aged well to say the least. Still, if you can look past it, the episode will be pretty great. I am looking forward to the next twelve episodes with this incarnation of the Doctor!

Finally starting this show in 2021.
Can't believe I never got around to watching this before — not even a single clip — being the time-travel buff I am!!

On another note, I know this is not a good place to start, that it's best to just skip these Christopher Eccleston episodes altogether. But I care about the order of things, okay?

It's a good first chapter, I think the effects and others for the time are good, but they could have done better.
I liked the mannequins, but why were some of them shooting?
And the Doctor seemed curious to me.
I felt the episode was a bit fast, like it was too rushed.
And the fact that at the end she left with him seemed too soon, I don't know, it didn't convince me?
I like the theme and the way the doctor is portrayed.
8/10

Still THE pilot of all time. I love 9 and Rose so much. Plastic Mickey still haunts me though. God that effect was freaky

How can we not admire how much is packed into this pilot for the revival to a series that had never found its groove even with the 4th doctor who is arguably the only doctor pre-ecceltson that delivers a memorable encarnation. Even tough the oringals were never up to par effects and story wise woth the T Davis era, time does take its toll as the recent Who episodes have shown forcing Davis to save ehat he saved from a dead series.

Jesus, the CGI here has aged like milk. Still a fun episode, if a tad bit corny here and there.

well this is my first time actually starting The Doctor Who series and this first episode was a bit weird and a bit corny but i can give it a chance. I do love this ninth doctor he is very sassy sarcastic and can have jokes as corny as they are. I do love that whole telephone booth transport thing and now when i see a mannequin i will always think of Doctor Who
