This show is just great. I really don't and will not understand why people want to see some kind of mix between The Simpsons and Futurama... This is different, and obviously it should be! I personally enjoy the characters and the story. So if you want to see Groening's previous creations just do it, and let disenchantment be what it is.
literally anything: *moves*
matt: i'm gonna make joke about it
Every 30 seconds (or less) there is a joke about something. No matter how stupid jokes are, no matter if they are appropriate for situation, they are just there and you are waiting for them. You know that whatever happen there would be a joke about it. And because of this it's fairly hard to watch this show. So predictable, so plain... (But some jokes were good.)
It's almost like sitcom but animated and w/o background laugh.
MY THOUGHTS ON DISENCHANTMENT:
-WARNING: Spoilers Below-
I am SO disappointed in this! I really had high expectations and hopes going into this, a Netflix Cartoon Comedy created by the great Matt Groening? What isn't there to love! Well in this case - everything. I really thought this would be incredible but of course not, I'm starting to think the more I expect from shows the less they deliver... Maybe I'm just bad luck?
Firstly I will say the designing of this show was very beautiful, all characters were drawn lovely. Unfortunately that can only go so far, I mean even s**t can be drawn well. After the first episode I thought "well that was awful but let's continue" the reason I continued is because I tend to have a 5 episode rule, give a show five episodes and if it doesn't impress by then then I just give up.
After I hit episode five I disliked the show and removed it from my continue watching. It just got worse and worse and there wasn't anything that kept me wanting to watch the show, the characters were irritating, the writing was boring, the jokes weren't funny and the pacing was awful. Looking back I really wish they did better with this but unfortunately some shows aren't for everyone.
Overall this was yet another disappointing cartoon for me, I really wish they did better but you can't please everyone, this could be someone's favourite show and here's me hating on it, I suppose that's the beauty of humans aye? We all love different things. I personally wouldn't recommend it but who knows, I've seen a lot of good written about this but to me It wasn't worth the time I spent watching it.
Overall rating: 2/10
TRAKT has not and will not be updating this BUT this show IS NOT ended. Season 5 came out this year. Using this app for this show is useless. I already emailed support where a rep named Kristin told me the episodes I'd watched of season 4 apparently don't exist. Waste of time. Made me think I was losing my mind for a minute there.
My expectations of this were a geek-filled Futurama-like show that ventures into a pseudo-fantasy world remniscent of D&D, LotR and every other trope imaginable... Instead I got a weak, uninteresting, uncharismatic cast of dimwits and alcoholics jumping from one easy joke into the other. At points I expected it to ramp up but they quickly went back to the main stage (being the castle in Dreamworld) making me hear the dreadful Bender-but-less-fun voice of the King over and over.
I didn't quite enjoy the show but it kept my intention, I barely smiled (never chuckled, never laughed, never ROLF'd) and rode it out to the end. That said... I am intrigued as to what season 2 will bring as the cast is pretty much... broken up but I do hope the creators either get some funnier people or add some subtle references to geek and fantasy culture... preferably both.
No pun on the title needed.
The truth is that I was super excited about this show. I was expecting some king of "medieval Futurama" but I thing we get something quite different.
The show is fun and characters are lovely but you can tell there is a difference between this, Futurama and The Simpsons. I guess this is becase the show is just starting and we need more time to know the characters. Despite this I loved Luci, Elfo and Bean so I can't wait for the next season.
I have high hopes for this story to go on!
Fairly disappointing if I'm honest. I was expecting a lot more from Groening. I'm also a huge Eric Andre fan but this just falls flat. Not a single laugh out of me so far and the story is very dry and feels recycled.
So I finished Part One and had a few hours to think about it. The show is definitely interesting. It’s not perfect but I see it setting-up to something bigger in Part Two. The first few episode are a bit off, not horrible or unwatchable but, does have some questionable pacing, lack of music, and some of the more direct jokes aren’t as funny as I would like them. A lot of the “good” jokes seem to be sprinkled in the background or hidden inside of other dialog, I wouldn’t be surprised picking-up on new jokes on a second re-watch. That said episodes 1-5 would be a 5-6/10. Normally a weaker opening to a series would lean me more towards dropping, however...
The reason I say the show is interesting is that the trailer and promo material advertises the show as a comedy first with some adventure on the side, however, it’s very much a slice of life series with hints of adventure down the line in Part Two. I wasn’t expecting this and I actually like this angle more. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if Part Two was exclusively adventure focused. Most of the episodes in Part One are about the daily life of the disobedient princess and falling into situations, all the while adding a LOT of world building. Part One seems very focused on familiarizing you with the world, people, concepts, etc... While this is taking place we get short cutaways to an unknown group of wizards/sorceress monitoring the situation in Dreamland, the main location in Part One, suggesting something bigger going on.
I wont spoil anything at the end of Part One but the world building and hints towards a grandeur story definitely make this series interesting and I want to learn more. Obviously these are just promises for the moment but the care put into the world and the slower pace at the start to familiarize the characters gives me hope that this series will offer more. For now it’s a 6/10, good but until we see the rest I wouldn’t put much into the rating.
Also the 2D animation is very good. CGI blending is better than most shows and a surprising amount of the scenes have a lot of animation in areas you wouldn't expect it. Casual walks in the city treat you to scenes with plenty of bystanders moving and interacting with each others in 2D (some are 3D). Lots of other shows would offer stills & pans so this gives this show's world a lot of life.
Wow... didn't expect this to be so bad. There are some beautiful backgrounds to look at here but that's about the praise this gets from me. Feels like Groening can't really progress as a writer. If maybe the leads had any chemistry then it would have been easier to get into it but as it stands I didn't even chuckle once and the jokes moreso were cringey given that fantasy setting this is supposed to takes place in.
Pasterama. Two things are for certain, 1. I love this show, 2. It's going to get cancelled. Enjoy it while it lasts.
If people go in expecting "haha funny" all of the time, they'll be disappointed. It's a good show by the end (picks up steam around episode 5) but nothing like Futurama or The Simpsons, so I can see how it can be misleading if you go in with that expectation.
My main problem with it is what other people seem to like: the drawing style. I'm not even sure I can explain it, it just doesn't do anything for me.
The characters are what seems closer to Groening's previous works. You'll like most of them once you get to know them, with their quirks being decisive in it most of the time.
If feels like it was too short of a season as well, so I guess that's one more thing on the pros column. I definitely would like to see more ASAP!
why is the third and fourth season missing here?
What's up with Trakt listing 4 seasons as 2?
Netflix lists them as 4 and so does IMDB so why not here?
What happened to Season 2?
I was really hopeful when I first heard about this show. Watched part 1 and was utterly disappointed. I quite enjoyed Futurama and was hoping for something similar. Part 2 was just the same and could not woo me…
All of it is basically a confusing waste of time. Extremely random scenes and the main story is … similarly random, with twists and turns that just do not make sense.
Edit: finished everything as a background noise filler. Not everything Matt Groening touches turns to gold (as can be seen with the later Simpsons episodes). A huge disappointment and the randomness of all events just makes this show very much not enjoyable. Lots of repeats and as fun as crude jokes can be, this takes it across a line where it becomes boring.
The first episodes were bad to say the least, but somehow this show started to grow on me and I enjoyed the last couple of episodes a lot. I expected more from it, I hope the show gets better on Part 2.
As someone that has never been the biggest Simpsons fan, I did not know what to expect here. Animation is stylistic, humor isn't as slap happy like many adult animated shows, and the plot is surprisingly complex. Over the three seasons, I grew to appreciate the style of plot. It was less episodic and more of a full seasonal story. While it is far from one of my favorites, there is a special concept here that I can see why many people would love!
Average Season Review: 7.33/10
Recommendation: Watch If You Need Content (For Adult Animated Fans)
Love this show so much . Very happy with the finale.
Regret every moment I saw this piece of pure misery.
I think this show had a massive potential, and while still fun definitely let it down a bit. But I guess now we have Futurama back
Netflix: Proceed to cancel every single good show.
Also Netflix: Proceeds to make 5 seasons of this trash show...
1st season was ok, everything after that is awful.
The man’s a legend, everything he makes is just so great
It's a great show :thumbsup_tone2: Very funny and entertaining.
clown show became a disasterclass
I got half-way through season 2 before I finally gave up on this show.
I tried to like it, but I just couldn't.
Too many annoying characters, too few ways in which they were likeable.
Animation style is solid enough, voice acting is... okay.
The overwhelming need for the script to make a joke from everything became tedious.
No good comedy, no good adventures. Has no focus on anything. Passable at best.
After watching all two seasons (or all four seasons, depends how you count it I guess?) I really love that show because I love the characters of Bean and Elfo. The show is more like an adventure with comedy elements in it, not a comedy show like Futurama or the first 10 (for me 13) seasons of The Simpsons.
It's really disappointing that we still don't know yet if there is another season. But Netflix is cancelling all good shows in recent time and only orders new mediocre shows anymore - so I don't have many hopes :( Come on Netflix - just give me this one show so I can keep my subscription after Better Call Saul ended.
Didn't expect the show to have so much plot to it, I was expecting something a lot more similar to how the Simpsons or Futurama is done. It's funny and really good for casual watching
Where is the third season?
where the 3rd is reflected. season .. which Netflix already has it ??
Third season also includes an awful cliffhanger.
It gets better after the first 5 episodes, though it doesn't get THAT good, more just kinda an easy breezy watch. These seasons got to all stop ending on cliffhangers though
Hopefully this won't end up like Half Life 3 somewhere shelved as it raises more questions in the end. Anyway, good show especially those later episodes.
People expected more from the creators of the Simpsons. I am not sure what else they expected since I love the show. I can’t wait for more.
The brazilian portuguese dubbing made this show better than it really is.
Interesting characters and although the story was not that appealing, the series finale opened up many opportunities for the second season. Some forced jokes over here and there, but there are still witty jokes to be heard. Overall, it's another animated series that I will follow.
started watching after Netflix's suggestion. looked like the Simpsons and could be fun. after the first episode was like wtf? glad it only had one episode. but nooooo it has more! I watched while hoping it would get better but it doesn't! shallow, uninteresting plot, low quality animation and weak script. not cleaver, not fun. very few scenes made me laugh or giggle. for me? waste of time.
I thought that the first episode was s**t. The second wasn't much better and the third... The point is when i watch the fourth i was like: "this should be the first episode" it was great and much better than the first 3 episodes. And the thing is, in my opinion, episodes 4 and ahead are what it should be since the first one. Maybe i am wrong.
