Unbelievable last episode of Series 1, absolute genius!
It's Gervais, so it's tonally strange. Sometimes heartwarming, a bit crass but ultimately rewarding.
I would've given it a 10/10 if it wasn't for Kev. He's just gross.
Derek is lovely. That is the best word to describe it. Lovely. It’s like a Sherbet Lemon: innocent, sweet, but also bittersweet. It makes you feel good and at the same time nostalgic or sad. Many of the words that come out of Derek’s mouth are pearls of wisdom. Watch it, you’ll wish you had sooner…
Yes this show is pretty much genius. Awesome acting, brilliant characters and so very funny!
Kindness is magic, Derek:hearts: :hearts:
This is absolutely F@$%#ing briljant.
It's a shame 'cause season 1 was incredible but season 2... Omg it's freaking terrible... Not only Dougie leaves the show but now they focus on Kev ALL THE TIME. I really don't understand what's funny about Kev! Oh well let's see if they bring back Dougie and get rid of Kev.
Terrible in so many ways. Why bother?

Because of the average rating here and elsewhere, I didn't expect much from Derek, but it's some of the best work from Ricky Gervais I've seen so far. It's a very good mix between comedy and tragedy; much better than After Life imho. The funny moments are really funny and the sad moments really sad when delivered shortly after one another.
Apart from that, the casting is reall good. Ricky plays Derek in a way that you forget who the actor is. But the heart of the show is actually Kerry Godliman who plays Hannah, despite it being called Derek. She's terrific. David Earl is absolutely amazing too. Karl Pilkington sadly almost leaves after the first season, but his stuff was fun to watch and he was replaced well.
