This series is an amazing representation of the transition between a lawless, survival-of-the-fittest community to a state-belonging, normalized and ordered one, which not only reminds North American west history but makes me wonder about my own country's absorption of such communities around the same years.

Each character symbolizes an unique contribution of ideas and moral behavior that influenced such a transition, without losing touch with their deepest feelings fueling their beliefs. Some will say its language was gratuitously foul (also accommodated to modern tones for dramatization), yet it's not for the whole show but helps framing the mental image in which characters build their social contracts

Pain or damage don't end the world..or despair, or fuckin beatings..the world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back

My vote for the best western of all time.

wonderful tv, the writing, the dialogue , acting, the performances throughout each episode are just class. It is dense and not what you'd expect, and so rewards repeat viewing. I promise that Deadwood is as good as anything you have seen, takecare cocksucker

Just starting this for the second time. First time round it was amazing, hoping the second time is even better. In my top ten of all time tv shows.

Such an amazing show! I can definitely see the hype behind the show. The world it creates is so immersive and detailed. It's one of the best "Westerns" I've ever seen. The acting is top notch. There's plenty of people who are typically character actors, but get their opportunity to shine here. Timothy Olyphant, Brad Dourif, and Ian McShane particularly stand out here. Al Swearengen happens to be one of the greatest characters ever! I highly recommend!

After finishing season 1 of twin peaks, I am here. I wanted some crime and drama tv show. Did not search too much, did not look at the cast or director.

This review will be pre review because i am in the beginnning of first episode. It is western. I will edit when i finished all seasons.

timothy olyphant is leading actor it seems :) At first, i could not recognize him. Because i know him for Justified (2010–2015) which I watched until last season. There was a great acting. Now, in this series, it seems he is same. He is sheriff as i saw and he is cool again and brave :)

It will be pleasure to watch again, despite I did not watch any more crime tv shows in which police-cops-sheriff are in main perspective.

Compelling Western. Absolutely worth watching again.

A smartly written western with a great ensemble (a usual thing for HBO!). Excellent eye to details and rich dialgue. The colorful language is fun for a short while, but also overkill the flow of the series as it soon feels more like the writers tried to create ways to have creative foul language on the show than have an overall arc . Some characters were also criminally underused. My favorites were Anna Gunn, Jim Beaver, Powers Boothe, Brad Dourif and John Hawkes on the show, but it was Ian McShane's show. Still, why doesn't people comment on "Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years" as it's inspiration. Now, that was a great show with a lot of fanastic story lines and had a fast pace.

Watching this one all over again. Like a fine wine, it gets better with age. Hilarious to see Nick Offerman in one episode, I didn't even recognize him, just happened to see his name in the credits!

It is said many times before but Swearangen's character is outstanding. I am watching this having missed it's original run on HBO and have noticed so many strong actors, more than a couple of them that also happen to be on Sons of Anarchy, another favorite of mine. I wish I knew his name and will look it up shortly but the actor playing Charlie Udder in Deadwood and also the retired Sheriff (first name Wayne) in SOA is phenomenal in each role. Don't think he gets the recognition he deserves. The next actor played characters in both Deadwood and SOA that were extremely similar even with the difference in setting. Will look his name up as well but he played an Assistant States Attorney (??) for a season of SOA running the second RICO case against SAMCRO. Short of it, great show.

Seriously, Swearengen was awesome! Absolutely loved this show and hated to see it suffer the same fate as so many other amazing HBO series. I'll miss this one..
