Dead Ringers 2023

Demented, unhinged, disturbing, terrifying, and riveting. Rachel Weisz so brilliant you actually believe you’re watching two different people. The real secret ingredient, however, is the genius of Poppy Liu.
Tune in. Hide the kids.

I haven't watched the Cronenberg movie this is based on but 6 episodes was too much, the first few episodes were pretty compelling but the middle part was a chore to get through. Picked back up in the last.

Not one, but two excellent distinct performances from Rachel Weisz as the Mantle twins. A performance that reminded me of Orphan Black at times and the science parts also give off the same vibes. It's much darker though and there's lots of well-made graphic baby birthing bloody gory scenes. Quite horrifying. Not sure what the intent of it all was, to make pregnancy and birth scary? Or to expose the non-existant medical ethics? Well, job well done! The characters standout, there's some interesting dynamics and the dialogue is well-written. Jennifer Ehle was also a standout, the kind of character that gets under your skin. Love the score and the creepy intro theme, it's a shame they only put it in one or two episodes. A decent watch, equally disturbing and captivating.

Dialogue from the trailer:

"We're going to open a birthing center! Total control! Do it our way!"

Sounds like they are really going to shake things up and make the babies come out a new way!

And in the original the doctor was sleeping with his patients. So it will be interesting to see the twins sleep with the pregnant women. That is not a popular tv topic, so the show will be breaking some new ground if they do that.

[Prime Video] An intelligent way of redesigning a story that addressed misogyny through two gynecologist brothers to transform it into a feminist proposal that stars two twins who investigate fertility techniques. The representation of medical procedures is certainly far from the idealization of motherhood: there is a lot of blood, fluids, and dirt when the female genital organs are explored in medical interventions, and the instruments look like torture tools. But at the same time there is an exploration of feminine concerns and the psychological ambiguity of the protagonists that ends up being an approach that is perhaps not very commercial but creatively bold.

Absofuckinglutely insane, and disturbing, and brilliant. Your eyebrows will reach for the sky and you'll watch some (a lot) of it through your fingers, but you won't be able look away. The entire cast does a wonderful job, but Rachel Weisz is truly magnificent in this dual role.

My God...... the first few minutes of this are probably more graphic than John Wick 4 and way more unsettling :)
