Dawson's Creek 1998

Are we actually SUPPOSED to hate the main character?

What an egoistic and egocentric douchebag!

I’m not saying I ever rooter for any romantic relationship till now (halfway), but I surely don’t wish for Dawson and Joey to be together in the end.

He doesn’t seem to actually value her (or anyone for that matter) over himself and she makes drama out of everything with everyone. (Don’t get me wrong, I love her, untill there’s a romantic relationship involved.)

I knocked off a star because I just hate Dawson that much. He cost an entire star.

So this show was "fine". My wife enjoyed watching it more than I did. It had it's enjoyable parts, but the seasons would often drag on too long. The formula doesn't deviate far from the high school drama / CW / ABC Family type drama formula. I just happened to think many of the other long standing, comparable shows tend to do it better than Dawson's Creek. Did I dislike watching this show? Not really. But I wouldn't go so far as to recommend it either.

Average Season Review: 7.42/10

Recommendation: Watch If You Need Content (For High School Drama / CW Drama Fans)

I didn't watched it as a teenager 20 years ago, so the opinion is based on a modern perception. The series is very uneven, sometimes it defends itself quite well, but often the plot runs through the bottom. And congrats for the actors who achieved something more after it. :)

This is a show that was popular when I was a teenager but I didn't watch it until I became an adult. Now I've watched it twice through and would love to watch it a third, but not alone. Sure, it has its cringe moments and teenagers just don't talk the way they do, which is a minor peeve of mine; but that seems to be a common witty high school drama thing on the screen. One of my absolute favorite scenes is in the final episode when Jack says to Jen that she's his soulmate. It's such a beautiful example of loving someone deeply while not being romantically involved; and it's awesome that it was included in a show where a main focus was on who was and should be a couple. I could go on about other favorite scenes, episodes, and characters, but I'd rather just experience it again with someone.
