Dark: Season 2

2x02 Dark Matter

This show has done a spectacular job with the casting. When Old Ulrich showed up, damn it was spot on.

Where When did Jonas go?

The scene where she was digging in the garden at night looked like a Gregory Crewdson picture.

Every episode raises more questions than it answers

An exceptionally well-constructed episode for two (appropriately) recursive reasons: there are mysteries introduced and answered within the runtime and those mysteries hold intrigue for the length of the episode and then extend to episodes beyond.

I am particularly interested in the use of split-screen in Dark. Although the narrative itself is twisty and complex, the filmmaking itself is rather straightforward. There's a lot of trust that the show places in the audience: you need to listen to the sound to understand when you're switching time periods, and the editing tells you quite a bit about the inner thoughts of each character and the events around them. So, then, the use of split-screen is particularly interesting because it is so flashy, comparatively. It is an in your face technique that was used well in the first season to establish connections between characters. Here, that same device is used for something else. I'm not entirely sure what that will be yet, but it seems to be an evolution of the connections idea--here more about obsession and thoughts. I'm fascinated.

If you listen carefully, around 6:30 mins, they rick-rolled us! Lol

I'm getting headaches with this season. It is difficult to keep track of every character and what they've done, do or will do, and the relationships between them.

I'm more lost than Jonas Jonas Kahnwald in the parallel worlds. Let's see if I can start to focus because it's getting out of hand.

So at this point I suspect "Adam" is actually "Ulrich" based on some speculation of mine :)
