I read the horrible story of Jeffrey Dahmer’s crimes on Wikipedia a few years ago and so I was quite interested to watch this show. But wow, this is a tough watch already. The acting is really convincing and the story is just so horrific.
Terrifying, anxiety-inducing, stressful. The word's barely start capturing the experience of this episode. Evan Peters did a fantastic job capturing the eeriness of Jeffrey Dahmer, with the lifeless expressions, slows body movements, weirdly pitched voiced, and clam demeanor contrasting the terrifying aura he gives off. The opening shot with Dahmer, seeing his clear blood off his knife and gloves in his room, with dull yellow and green lights shining the apartment, really effectively established Dahmer as a ominous figure.
And later on, when Dahmer brought the dude to his apartment, I was constantly on the edge of my seat, worried that at any second, Dahmer would kill the stranger. Watching the stranger quickly realize something was off with Dahmer, and seeing how Dahmer would grow more aggressive, threatening the stranger with murder if he didn't comply was so intense and worrying.
The set design of Dahmer's apartment played a big role in adding to this eerie atmosphere, with ominious drugs and metal tools scattered around the apartment room, just barely hidden from view until you're fully in the room. And hearing the stranger odor described by the neighbor as constantly coming from his room, with Dahmer clearly making up excuses as it what it's from, really made Dahmer seem like a murderer. The calm nature in which he described it too, clearly showed it wasn't Dahmer's first time trying to cover up his murders.
Man, it was such a relief that the black dude escaped Dahmer, I was kinda worried something would happen when he met the police (given how the first scene with the black neighbor highlighted how ever-present issues of racist violent was in the country), but luckily the show didn't go that route for him.
I really felt bad for the father of Jeffrey Dahmer, with him having to hear all the gruesome crimes the son that he raised commuted, being forced to deal with the reality that his kid is a serial murderer. Watching him alone, breaking down into tears while accepting what his son had become, was heart-breaking. I couldn't begin to imagine how I'd feel as a parent if my child turned out like Jeffrey Dahmer.
I'm surprised the episode started here, with Dahmer being arrested and taken into custody, I'm looking forward to seeing how the show handles the court hearings and possible his life in prison. So far I;m fairly invested in all the characters that have been introduced.
I didn't like this at all. I've watched a few documentaries and the movie 'My friend Dahmer'. I like watching crime docs and true story crime movies and shows, but this one does something that I don't like. It adds a lot of sensation and turns a true story in to a horror show. I think the choice of style is just wrong. The amount of gore adds absolutely nothing to the story and is just straight up respectless to his victims and their relatives. This show turns Jeff Dahmer into a Hollywood serial killer like Hannibal Lecter, Anton Chigurh and Dexter. The only problem with this is that Jeff Dahmer really existed and did monsterous things to real people. They made Dahmer stronger, more charismatic and communicative for this show and did the opposite to his victims who are made to look weak, sweaty and trembling.
Least deranged The Exorcist III fan.
Glad I had my pillow to hide behind, nerve racking, stress inducing, finger nail biting and brilliant scary first episode.
Holy crap, been watching ep 1 for 20 mins, this is enthralling, not sure I'm up to it in 1 go, could be an on off thing for me, edge of seat drama for sure.
omg that's really bad, that's is so interesting and sad in same time, excited to see the rest of episodes
tho that's the firsr series i watch that take the killer from the first episode lol
Great first episode,it's crazy what Dahmer was getting away with, imagine living next door to a monster like that.
Watched on Netflix. I expected more of this first episode. People were all telling me how amazing the story was, but I don't see anything special or awesome. Just some dude who is mentally ill and did gross things. The only thing I suppose the audience is waiting for is to know how this serial killer got away for so long. I think there is a hint this episode gives: systemic racism. Is that true? Or is Netflix again siding with the trendy political ideology? We are looking forward to knowing what the next episodes say about it.
A really well done first episode as far as the acting and tension. Sadly though, they took a lot of creative liberties concerning Tracy's recollection of events.

What an amazing first episode. This is definitely off to a great start. Evan Peters has Jeffrey’s mannerisms, voice, eeriness and awkwardness down to a T. I watched so many documentaries on Jeffrey Dahmer that I was so excited Netflix announced this. I can’t wait to see more of what’s to come!
