Honestly, UK Drama is so well done! It seems there is an increasing appetite for political Drama (not too long ago I watched and reviewed BORGEN, another excellent drama about the a moderate party leader suddenly thrust into the premiere government office of Denmark). Perhaps it is because people are so fatigued by politics having gone so wrong. This is an excellent imagining of the personal lives and challenges of those responsible for dealing with a national crisis. The script has depth. The story is compelling. The acting is exquisite. Even though Obama once said, the presidency was as exciting as men in suits talking in a room, these dramas are far from boring. I give this series an 8 (great) out of 10. [Political Drama]

This show is like a mix of "The West Wing" and "Designated Survivor" with elements of "The Newsroom" and a pinch of "24" but set in the UK. It could only be better if the BBC produced it but they would never bite the hand that feeds them. If you like grade A political drama that requires you to think (or google) just a little bit, this is one for you.

Well, this didn't catch with me. I thought the premise at the beginning was really interesting with a solar storm hitting the earth and possible implications.
But it turns into mediocre drama in the second episode with political power struggles, affairs with ex-boyfriends, family problems and so on. Since I get this stuff in every other show I wasn't really intrigued.

Also the writing is very weak at times. A refugee camp where people can almost beat someone to death and lynch him and only two (!) police officers show up and they can't even arrest the bullies. A water tanker in a national emergency can be easily highjacked because there is no protection whatsoever. You really have to very lenient. The writers are very much aiming for easy to achieve drama.
