What a strange, out-of-nowhere turn for Peter Mills as a character. Moving with his family makes sense, but not being a firefighter at all doesn't. He could still be a firefighter in North Carolina. Which would still take him out of the show, but not change his character so drastically.
I assumed this was due to the actor wanting to leave the show, as it usually is. But I looked it up, and it turns out it was the showrunners deciding that there was nowhere interesting left to go with Peter Mills as a character, so they cut him to make room for new ones in the future. That's rough.
Why the hell would they make Rice, who is essentially the new guy, the acting Lt over Capp or Tony who have been there the whole time?
Who was that cop with Burgess? I guess they couldn't get the actor who plays Roman. Or pay him, maybe. I'm actually pretty curious as to how the contracts work for the One Chicago shows.
